A group of BJP MPs from the tribal community filed a breach of privilege notice on Monday against Congress parliamentary party leader Sonia Gandhi for using "derogatory and slanderous" words against President Droupadi Murmu. Led by Rajya Sabha MP Sumer Singh Solanki, they met Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and sought disciplinary action against Gandhi, contending her remarks lowered the dignity of the office of the President. The notice was filed over Gandhi's remark on President Murmu after her address to a joint sitting of Parliament on Friday. Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were seen discussing the speech on the Parliament complex. "The poor lady, the President, was getting very tired by the end... she could hardly speak, poor thing," Sonia Gandhi was purportedly heard saying in a video doing the rounds on social media. The BJP MPs said in the notice that the remarks are "a clear manifestation of elitist and anti-tribal mindset of Smt. Gandhi who is yet to ...

BJP leader Amit Shah on Monday said states with a double-engine BJP government have progressed in the last 10 years, but Delhi has been left behind because the Aam Aadmi Party kept making excuses and fighting with the Centre. Speaking at a public meeting in Jangpura, Shah called AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia "bade miyan and chote miyan" and accused them of "looting" Delhi. "States having a double-engine BJP government have progressed in the last 10 years. Delhi has been left behind, they keep making excuses and fighting with the Centre like a cry baby (babua sa munh banakar)," the Union Home Minister said. Firing a fresh salvo at Sisodia, who is contesting from the Jangpura Assembly seat against BJP's Tarvinder Singh Marwah, Shah said he is the only education minister in the country who went to jail in connection with a liquor scam. He alleged that Kejriwal lied to the people of Delhi and gave them only garbage, toxic water, and corruption. "'Bade miyan a
The BJP is headed for a massive victory in Delhi like those in the recent Maharashtra and Haryana polls, Union minister Piyush Goyal said on Monday. Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, Goyal accused the AAP government of depriving the people of the capital of clean drinking water, air and failing to fulfil its promises such as rejuvenating the Yamuna river. "All sections of people have faith in Narendra Modi and his guarantees. February 5 is going to be a milestone for the BJP and a golden day for the people of Delhi," he said. People now want a government that delivers and serves, rather than engaging in fights and obstructing development in Delhi, the Union commerce and industry minister said. "Like the victories in Maharashtra and Haryana, the BJP is poised for a massive mandate on all the seats in Delhi, including those that were earlier considered tough," Goyal said, citing the huge crowds seen at the meetings held by Prime Minister Modi, Union Home ...
The Congress launched a sharp attack on the BJP and ruling AAP on the final day of campaigning for the Delhi Assembly elections, presenting itself as the only viable alternative and pledging to restore Delhi's glory witnessed under the late Sheila Dikshit's leadership. Senior Congress leaders made a last-ditch effort to woo voters, holding a press conference where they attacked the Kejriwal-led government over alleged governance failures, mismanagement of funds and corruption. They also accused the BJP of suppressing opposition-ruled states and neglecting the concerns of Delhi's marginalised communities. Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav emphasised the election was about reclaiming the developmental legacy of the late party leader and former chief minister Sheila Dikshit. He accused the AAP of allowing the city to deteriorate, arguing infrastructure has crumbled, water quality worsened, and public services neglected. "This election is about bringing back the Delhi that Sheila ..
AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Monday claimed the BJP is going to face its worst defeat ever in these polls in Delhi and will use its "goons" and Delhi Police to influence the elections. In a video message on the final day of campaigning for the February 5 polls, Kejriwal alleged the BJP was already resorting to unfair tactics in the face of a "massive defeat". Despite all these, the AAP is heading towards a historic victory and the BJP its worst defeat since the party came into being, Kejriwal claimed. "The BJP will use its goons and Delhi Police extensively to win the elections. They will try to intimidate voters, especially those in slum areas," he claimed. The former Delhi chief minister further alleged BJP workers would attempt to bribe slum-dwellers by offering Rs 3,000-Rs 5,000 and marking their fingers with black ink to prevent them from voting on election day. "Take their money, but do not let them put ink on your finger," he urged voters. He said that to counter these ..
In his PIL, Justice Dhingra seeks a court order for the three political parties to "cease and desist" from gathering personal and electoral data under false pretences
The high-voltage campaigning for Delhi Assembly polls will come to an end at 5 pm on Monday, ushering in the mandatory silence period before voting on February 5. On the final day of campaigning, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has scheduled 22 roadshows and rallies across Delhi, intensifying its bid to reclaim power in the capital after more than 25 years. On the other hand, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) remains confident of securing a third straight term, banking on its governance model of free welfare schemes. The Congress, which ruled the capital for 15 years until 2013, is striving to regain its lost ground after drawing a blank in the last two elections. The fiercely-contested electoral battle has been defined by an unprecedented use of AI-generated spoofs, sharp political jibes, and high-decibel roadshows. The Election Commission's Model Code of Conduct (MCC) mandates that all public meetings, election-related functions, and campaigning must cease 48 hours before the cl

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday said the time has come to free Delhi from the group of Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP which has provided extremely poor governance in the national capital. Campaigning door-to-door in the Panckuian Road locality in New Delhi, Vaishnaw urged voters to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise in the February 5 assembly elections in Delhi. We are at a crucial stage. Everyone has seen how Kejriwal, with his extremely poor governance, has pushed this beautiful city of Delhi into serious problems. Now, the time has come to free ourselves from this and take Delhi forward, Vaishnaw, the Information and Broadcasting Minister said. It is essential that on election day (Feb 5), everyone remembers to step out by 8 am and also encourage others to go out and vote, the bureaucrat-turned-politician said. The BJP has asked several of its Union ministers and chief ministers to campaign for the Delhi polls. Chief Ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma (Assam),
The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Sunday stated that no written complaints have been found regarding AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's allegations of BJP workers intimidating and harassing his party's volunteers in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. In response to Kejriwal's request for independent observers and police action, the Delhi CEO's office, in a letter, informed the AAP leader that the matter was reviewed by the District Election Officer (DEO) and the Delhi Police. However, "no written complaints could be traced in most of the cases," he said. Earlier in the day, Kejriwal had written to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), urging protection for AAP workers and the suspension of police officials for allegedly failing to prevent attacks by BJP supporters. However, the CEO's letter emphasized that "all such matters are investigated in accordance with laws and ECI norms and appropriate action as per ECI guidelines is either initiated or recommended in such cases." In the fray on a BJP ticket, Manjinder Singh Sirsa is credited with ending the Congress' domination in the Rajouri Garden seat with his victory in the 2013 Delhi assembly polls and wresting the constituency from the ruling AAP in the 2017 bypoll. Locked in a triangular battle with the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Delhi assembly polls, Sirsa, 52, is contesting from the same seat and is confident of emerging victorious for the third time. "After winning, my focus will be to ensure the supply of potable water to people living in the constituency and make its roads better and cleaner," two-time MLA Sirsa told PTI when asked about his priorities if he is elected from the seat. "The biggest problem in this constituency is that people are getting dirty water. The second problem is broken and dirty roads. "Garbage is scattered all over the constituency. Cable wires hanging everywhere is another big problem here," he said. Sirsa added that the Rajouri Garden seat
