Tata Motors JLR posts loss amid challenges in China market

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) on Thursday posted a pre-tax loss of 273 million pounds in its latest financial results and blamed a fall in sales of its luxury vehicles on challenging market conditions in China. The UK's largest car manufacturer reported revenues of 6.2 billion pounds, down from 6.3 billion pounds a year ago, as part of the results for the October-December 2018 three-month period. The sales of its cars for the quarter stood at 144,602 vehicles, down from 154,447 a year ago. "Jaguar Land Rover reported strong third quarter sales in the UK and North America, but our overall performance continued to be impacted by challenging market conditions in China," said JLR CEO Ralf Speth. "This is a difficult time for the industry, but we remain focused on ensuring sustainable and profitable growth, and making targeted investments, that will secure our business in the future," he said. The JLR CEO also unveiled plans for a non-cash exceptional charge to reduce the book .

PM to address CREDAI's conference

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a real estate conference organised by the youth wing of realtors' apex body CREDAI on February 13-14 in the national capital. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Finance Minister Piyush Goyal and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri are also scheduled to address the event. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address over 3,000 young real estate developers at CREDAI YouthCon on February 13-14 at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi," CREDAI said in a statement. The two-day summit is expected to be the most comprehensive real estate spectacle that the industry has ever witnessed, it added. "CREDAI's initiatives towards the development of the Indian real estate knows no bounds and aims to create an extremely conducive environment to spearhead the growth of the Indian economy," Jaxay Shah, national president at CREDAI, said.

Tata Motors Q3 net loss at Rs 26,961 cr on JLR woes

Auto major Tata Motors Thursday reported a whopping consolidated net loss of Rs 26,960.8 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, hit by one-time asset impairment in its struggling British arm Jaguar Land Rover. The company had registered a net profit of Rs 1,214.6 crore in the October-December quarter of 2017-18. Total revenue from operations, however, rose 4.36 per cent to Rs 77,582.71 crore as compared to Rs 74,337.7 crore in the year-ago period, Tata Motors said in a regulatory filing. On a standalone basis, the company posted PAT (profit after tax) of Rs 617.62 crore as against Rs 211.59 crore in the year-ago quarter. Total standalone income rose to Rs 16,477.07 crore as against Rs 16,186.15 crore in the same period previous fiscal. JLR's revenue, however, declined 1 per cent to 6.2 billion pounds. Rupee gains 11 paise to 71.45 vs USD after RBI rate cut

The rupee Thursday appreciated by 11 paise to close at 71.45 against the US dollar after the Reserve Bank of India cut the repo rate and changed its policy stance to 'neutral'. Forex traders said the domestic currency gained strength after the Reserve Bank of India Thursday cut benchmark lending rate by 0.25 percentage point to 6.25 per cent. Moreover, easing crude prices and fresh foreign fund inflows also propped up the local unit. This is the third consecutive session of appreciation for the rupee, during which it has gained 35 paise. "Rupee appreciated after RBI's rate cut decision," HDFC Securities Head PCG & Capital Markets Strategy V K Sharma said. Bajaj Electricals shares jump over 9 pc post Q3 earnings

Shares of Bajaj Electricals Thursday soared over 9 per cent after the company posted a 73.55 per cent rise in standalone net profit for October-December 2018 quarter. The company's shares jumped 9.44 per cent to close at Rs 518.80 on the BSE. Intra-day, it zoomed 10.34 per cent to Rs 523.10. At the NSE, shares surged 8 per cent to close at Rs 515.15. In terms of volume, 1.26 lakh shares of the company changed hands at the BSE, while over 17 lakh shares were traded on the NSE. Bajaj Electricals Thursday reported a 73.55 per cent rise in standalone net profit at Rs 63.92 crore for the quarter ended December 2018, led by a robust performance in consumer products and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) segments. It had reported a net profit of Rs 36.83 crore in the same period a year-ago, Bajaj Electricals said in a BSE filing. Total income was also up at Rs 2,161.83 crore during the quarter under review, from Rs 1,145.13 crore in the year-ago period.

Sports Ministry grants Rs 35cr to SAI for TOPS athletes

The Sports Ministry has granted Rs 35 crores from its National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for customised training of athletes who are included in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS). In addition, the Ministry has also disbursed an amount of Rs 5.98 crore for athletes across 22 disciplines seeking funds from NSDF during 2018. NSDF funds are allocated specifically for those athletes, who appeal for financial assistance from the government. Replying to a question on the amount of funds disbursed, a complete data (till December 31, 2018) was released. While Rs 7.24 crore, Rs 6.25 crore and Rs 9.02 crore (all approx) were spent during financial years 2017-18, 2016-17 and 2015-16 respectively, the current year's spending till December is Rs 5.98 crore. In most of the disciplines, funding sought has decreased with only Rs 42.5 lakh disbursed in archery compared to Rs 64 lakh during last financial year. Similarly, assistance sought has decreased .
