Japan will provide USD 2.5 billion to Bangladesh to build the country's first underground railroad project, a media report said Thursday. A stretch of 26.6-km rail line will be constructed in Dhaka in two phases under the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project, the bdnews24.com reported. "The design of the underground rail is being prepared and the tender process of the project will be finalised by end of the year," Project Director Md Saidul Haque was quoted as saying. "Japan has agreed to finance the project which is a big one," he added. According to the contract, Bangladesh will get USD 2.5 billion which will be spent on five projects including the MRT-1 airport route. This financial assistance of Japan will be more than those it gave in previous fiscal years. The interest rate will be 0.95 per cent and the loan has to be repaid within 30 years, the report said.
Optical fibre maker Sterlite Tech Thursday reported around 62 per cent jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 145.6 crore in the December 2018 quarter, on account of robust services solutions business. The company had registered a profit of Rs 90.09 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2017-18. Total income jumped around 60 per cent to Rs 1,345.3 crore, compared with Rs 841.91 crore a year ago. "We have been operating at 100 per cent capacity of optical fibre and optical fibre cable. Our new facilities are on track that will further expand our supplies. Our new services business contributed significantly in the current fiscal and contribution also came in from Metallurgica Bresciana which we have recently acquired," Sterlite Tech Chief Financial Officer Anupam Jindal told PTI. Sterlite Tech has already invested around Rs 1,200 crore for expansion of optical fibre capacity to 50 route kilometer (Rkm) from 22 million Rkm. French carmaker Renault said Thursday that it had named Thierry Bollore as its new chief executive and Jean-Dominique Senard as board chairman, replacing former boss Carlos Ghosn following his arrest in Japan for alleged financial misconduct. Senard, currently the CEO of tyre giant Michelin, will represent Renault in its powerful alliance with Japanese carmakers Nissan and Mitsubishi, Renault added in a statement following a board meeting. Bollore, the chief operating officer who had been Ghosn's heir apparent as CEO, has been running the company in the wake of Ghosn's sensational arrest in November. Tech giant HP is betting on verticals like automotive, defence and healthcare for driving adoption of 3D printers in the Indian market. The company had introduced 3D printers in India last year, and has seen an uptake in demand from consumers and partner networks, HP Inc India Managing Director Sumeer Chandra said. 3D printing refers to creation of a three-dimensional object in which layers of materials are formed with computers controlling the process. "HP's key focus sectors to drive greater adoption of 3D printing in India include automotive, defence, healthcare, education and research, and fashion and jewellery. We will continue to focus on these areas," he added. Reliance Power Thursday reported a 32.47 per cent decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 189.30 crore in the December 2018 quarter, mainly on account of lower revenues. Royal Enfield will invest an additional Rs 500 crore by 2021 to expand its three manufacturing facilities in Tamil Nadu under a pact with the state government to receive fiscal and monetary incentives. According to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) inked between the two parties, the state government will extend fiscal and monetary incentives to the company, subject to it investing Rs 1,500 crore over a period of five years beginning May 2016, Royal Enfield, two-wheeler arm of Eicher Motors, said in a regulatory filing. Out of Rs 1,500 crore, Royal Enfield has already invested over Rs 1,000 crore. Dairy products maker Hatsun Agro Ltd has clocked a 23.7 per cent rise in its third quarter net at Rs 18.52 crore, the city-based firm said Thursday. Hatsun Agro Products Ltd registered net profits at Rs 14.97 crore during corresponding quarter of previous year. In a filing to the BSE, the company said, the profits for the nine month period grew by 7.11 per cent, to Rs 94.64 crore from Rs 88.35 crore registered year ago period. Total income for the October-December 2018 quarter grew to Rs 1,156.06 crore from Rs 1,014.13 crore registered year ago. For the nine month April-December 2018 period, total income surged to Rs 3,580.05 crore from Rs 3,244.40 crore registered same period of last year. Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation listed its bonds on the debt securities platform of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) Thursday.
