Cong to protest today over 'planned attacks' on Nyay yatra in Assam

The Congress on Sunday announced it will hold demonstrations across state and district headquarters over what it said were "planned attacks" on the convoys of Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam. In a late night post on X, Congress general secretary, organisation, K C Venugopal alleged that since the yatra's entry in Assam, "the most corrupt CM in India has been carrying out relentless attacks on our convoys, properties and leaders using his goons." "This is a matter that every Indian must take seriously, because it exposes the BJP's fascism and hooliganism. All across India, PCCs and DCCs are instructed to hold large scale protests tomorrow evening and exposing how the Modi-led BJP is killing democracy in Assam through their corrupt CM," Venugopal said. "Our fight for justice - social, economic and political - will continue undeterred!" he said. Nyay Yatra: Rahul gives flying kisses to crowd shouting 'Jai Shri Ram'

As a group of BJP workers chanted "Jai Shri Ram" and raised "Modi, Modi" slogans in front of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra bus here, the Congress leader waved, gave flying kisses and stepped down to meet them. "Our 'Mohabbat ki dukaan' (shop of love) is open for everyone. 'Judega Bharat, Jeetega Hindustan'," Gandhi said in a post on X while sharing a video of the incident. Later addressing a public meeting here, the Congress MP narrated the incident and said the Congress is neither scared of Prime Minister Narendra Modi nor Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Congress has claimed that its leaders, including Gandhi and Jairam Ramesh, were targeted by BJP supporters during the Assam leg of the Manipur-to-Maharashtra Nyay Yatra. The BJP, however, claimed that Gandhi was rattled after "Jai Shri Ram" and "Modi, Modi" slogans were raised in his presence. "If this is how rattled he is, how will he face the people of this country in days ahead, after the anti-Hindu Congr

Modi shifts political agenda, failed to protect borders from China: Tharoor

Congress Working Committee member and MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of shifting the political agenda every election year and alleged that the BJP-government at the Centre was unable to protect the nation's borders from Chinese encroachment. The hard hitting accusations from the MP from Thiruvananthapuram came on the eve of the Ram Temple consecration ceremony at Ayodhya on Monday. Tharoor said that Modi contested and won in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in the name of development and in 2019 in the name of national security by ordering surgical strikes on Pakistan. But now he cannot talk of development, following the problems caused to the public due to demonetisation nor can he raise the issue of national security as the government was unable to take back territory occupied by China, Tharoor claimed. "So this time round, the only thing they have is their original cause -- Hindu Hriday Samrat. There is no doubt that would be their propaganda," he said.

Cong PM would've controlled Manipur violence by fourth day: Rahul Gandhi

If there was a prime minister of the Congress, the violence in Manipur would have been controlled by the fourth day, party leader Rahul Gandhi claimed on Sunday. Addressing a rally as part of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam's Nagaon district, he claimed that even PM Narendra Modi can control the violence in the Northeastern state within three days with the help of the Army, but the BJP doesn't want to do it. "Manipur has been burning for several months, but our prime minister hasn't gone there till date. Had it been a Congress PM, he would have gone there in three days and the fire there would have been doused on the fourth day," Gandhi said. "If the prime minister gives an order to the Army, in three days they can stop it. But, the BJP doesn't want to douse the fire. That's why the PM doesn't go there and order the Army to stop the 'tamasha'," he claimed. He alleged that the BJP-ruled government in Assam has been threatening people and trying to suppress their voice, but they

Y S Sharmila on Sunday took oath as the president of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee here, in the presence of senior leaders of the party and hundreds of cadres. The newly sworn-in APCC president thanked senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for reposing their faith and entrusting her with the responsibility. "Y S Rajasekhara Reddy took up the PCC (president) post two times and went on to be the chief minister two times. Again, believing in Rajasekhara Reddy's child Y S Sharmila, Congress party, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, (Mallikarjun) Kharge and the elders of the Congress party have given that responsibility," said Sharmila. Mincing no words, Sharmila immediately launched a scathing attack on the ruling YSRCP led by her brother and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, and the TDP. Assam govt threatening people not to join Cong yatra, says Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that Assam's BJP-led government has been threatening people against joining the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, and refusing permissions for programmes along its route. People, however, are not afraid of the BJP, Gandhi asserted at a public gathering in Biswanath Chariali, the headquarters of Biswanath district. He also said the Congress will win by a huge margin against the BJP in the upcoming elections. "We don't make long speeches as part of the yatra. We travel every day for 7-8 hours, talk to delegations, meet people and listen to their issues. And then, we fight for your issues; that is the aim of this yatra. "When elections come, Congress will defeat BJP by massive margins," Gandhi asserted, urging party workers to march forward despite being threatened, and beaten up, as the fight is for the people. The yatra is in its fourth day in the state, having re-entered after a night halt in Arunachal Pradesh. It is scheduled to travel through

BRS Working President K T Rama Rao on Saturday said people should not pay their power bills until the Congress government in Telangana provided free electricity under the 'Gruha Jyothi' scheme as per its election promise. "KTR stated that people should not pay the power bills until free electricity was provided under the Gruha Jyothi scheme as promised by Revanth Reddy," a release from his office said. Relatives of people killed in Cong rule opposing Nyay Yatra in Assam: Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday claimed that those people in Assam whose relatives were killed during Congress tenure are opposing the ongoing 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', led by Rahul Gandhi, in the state. Addressing the passing out parade of the first batch of the five newly constituted Assam Police Commando battalions in Guwahati, Shah slammed the Congress alleging that people had to pay bribes to get jobs during its government. "Rahul Gandhi has recently started Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. I asked a few reporters here what happened in Assam. "They told me that at different places -- where injustices happened during their (Congress') tenure, thousands of Assam's youths were killed and Assam went into the grip of extremism -- the family members of those killed opposed this Nyay Yatra," Shah said. The Assam leg of the march began on January 18 and will continue till January 25. It will travel 833 km in 17 districts of the state. Shah said that there has been a huge change in t

Talks of alliance with Congress for LS polls in progress: SP chief Akhilesh

Talks of an alliance with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls are in progress, Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav said on Saturday. Talking to reporters at the SP headquarters here, he said several meetings have taken place in Delhi and more will be held soon. "We are in talks of an alliance with the Congress and a way will be found," said Yadav, whose SP, like the Congress, is part of the 28-member opposition INDIA bloc. The alliance, which also includes the TMC, the DMK and the AAP, was formed to take on the BJP in the general elections. Constituents of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) are engaged in seat- sharing talks in different states. Yadav's remarks come a day after the SP and the Jayant Chaudhary-led Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) reached a seat sharing agreement in Uttar Pradesh for the polls. "The INDIA bloc should be strong. The question is not about which party gets how many seats but about winnability," he ...

Mamata to take call on seat sharing, Cong unit cannot do bargaining: TMC

The TMC on Saturday said its supremo Mamata Banerjee will take the final call on seat sharing with the Congress in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha polls this year and asserted that "unjustified bargaining" cannot be done by the state unit of the grand old party. Based on the 2021 assembly poll results in the state, in which the Congress in alliance with the CPI(M)-led Left Front had fared badly, the Trinamool Congress top leadership offered the grand old party two seats, out of 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal, in the coming general elections, its spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said. "The Congress state unit cannot do unjustified bargaining on the matter," Ghosh said. Meanwhile, All India Mahila Congress President Alka Lamba said in Siliguri that the party's leadership has been holding parleys with constituents of the INDIA bloc in different states, including in West Bengal, for seat sharing for the Lok Sabha elections. She said the process will be concluded soon. "Parleys are o

PM doesn't want Nyay Yatra to succeed, so Assam CM creating troubles: Cong

Prime Minister Narendra Modi does not want the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra to succeed and that is why Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was creating difficulties for it, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh alleged on Saturday. Addressing a press conference at Gobindapur in Lakhimpur district, he alleged that Sarma was trying to give a communal colour to the programme. "The CM is following the prime minister. The PM doesn't want the Yatra to be successful, to be welcomed. Who is Himanta Biswa Sarma? He is a puppet, everything that is happening is being done by the 'ahangkarcharya' (proud person)," Ramesh alleged. "The one-point agenda of the chief minister is to give a communal colour to the Yatra. But he has got it totally wrong. Wherever the Yatra is going, people from all sections are welcoming Rahul Gandhi," he claimed. After three days in Assam, the Yatra entered Arunachal Pradesh. It will resume its Assam leg on Sunday and travel through the state till January ...

BJP dividing country in name of caste, creed, religion: Rahul Gandhi

Soon after the Congress' 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' entered Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday, its leader Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of "dividing the country in the name of caste, creed and religion". While interacting with the residents of Doimukh, he alleged that the BJP "instigates people to fight among themselves in the name of religion and language". The BJP works for the interest of a few businessmen, not for the interest of the people who are suffering a lot. The Congress, on the other hand, works to unite the people and for their betterment, Gandhi said from the top of a vehicle in which he was travelling as part of the yatra. The Congress leader said the 6,713-km-long 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra', which began from Manipur on January 14 and will culminate in Mumbai on March 20, is aimed at "raising the sufferings of the people of the northeast region". We gave statehood to Arunachal Pradesh and our party is always ready to raise the issues of the poor and to work for the betterment
