Rahul's 'panauti' jibe at PM escalates into poster war between Cong, BJP

The political slugfest over Rahul Gandhi's 'panauti' barb at Prime Minister Narendra Modi escalated into a poster war on social media on Friday with the Congress referring to the PM as "Panauti-e-Azam" and the BJP hitting back, calling the Gandhi family the "real panauti" of the country. A Hindi slang, "panauti" loosely refers to someone who brings bad luck. The poster battle comes a day after the Election Commission (EC) issued a show-cause notice to Rahul Gandhi for his "panauti", "pickpocket" and "loan waiver for the super rich" jibes at Prime Minister Modi, and asked him to respond by Saturday. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had approached the poll panel against the former Congress president, saying it was "unbecoming" of a "very senior leader" to use such language. The Congress put out a poster on X in which Modi is shown behind a curtain with the words "PANAUTI-E-AZAM" written on it. Hitting back at the Congress, BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla put out another .

On the last day of campaigning for the Rajasthan Assembly polls, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said the people will not fall for the alleged "lies, deception and hateful words" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and have decided to change the revolving door tradition of the state. In a post in Hindi on X, Kharge said Rajasthan, the holy land of heroes and warriors, has accepted the Congress' public welfare schemes. "Thanks to more than one crore families for reposing their trust in the seven guarantees of the Congress party. There is an environment in favour of the Congress party in the entire state," he said. Kharge claimed that the BJP is scared of the Congress' social justice, economic empowerment and savings and relief schemes. Congress not implementing '10 guarantees' in Himachal: Jai Ram Thakur

The Congress which came to power in Himachal Pradesh in 2022 by promising "Ten Guarantees" failed to implement them even after one-year of its rule, former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur alleged on Thursday. He also said the BRS led by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao runs the family-led dispensation in the state and that he came to know that there is no department left without corruption. Seeking votes for BJP candidates in Telangana assembly polls, Thakur said the country is progressing under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and there is a need that Telangana should also play an important role in further strengthening it. Citing Congress's guarantees in Himachal Pradesh, the BJP leader said the grand old party had promised that they would deposit Rs 1,500 monthly into the bank accounts of every woman aged above 15 years, but even after one-year, not even a single woman received the money. Rajasthan govt's Chiranjeevi scheme model' for country, says Congress

The Congress on Thursday said its Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme in Rajasthan is a model for the entire country and its promise of increasing the medical coverage under it to Rs 50 lakh will provide maximum relief to the poor and the middle class. In a post on X, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh noted that former party chief Rahul Gandhi reached Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jaipur and met some patients who were getting free treatment under Chiranjeevi Yojana'. Chiranjeevi Yojana is proving to be a boon for the people of Rajasthan. When one falls ill, it is very difficult to get treatment. Even the middle class people get into debt due to illness. But the people of Rajasthan need not worry. The armour of the revolutionary Chiranjeevi Yojana is with them," Ramesh said. Congress in Rajasthan making false promises to people for votes: JP Nadda

BJP president JP Nadda on Wednesday accused the Rajasthan Congress government of making false promises to the people for votes, even alleging that it failed to solve the water woes of the people of Dausa. Addressing election rallies in Dausa and Sikar in the poll-bound state, Nadda said, "Congress government did rampant corruption and made Rajasthan number one in atrocities on women." He said that the government broke promises it made to the youths and farmers. He also said that the people of Rajasthan have now decided to replace it with a "double-engine" government of BJP. "Congress is trying to collect votes by misleading people with false guarantees. The Congress government did not do anything for the water problem in Dausa," Nadda said. He also attacked the Congress government over the issues of corruption, oppression of women, atrocities on Dalits and backward classes, paper leaks, and mining mafia.

BJP urges EC to take action against Rahul, Kharge for remarks targeting PM

The BJP on Wednesday stepped up its protest against Rahul Gandhi for his 'panauti' jibe against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged the Election Commission to take action against the Congress leader. A party delegation, which included its general secretary Radha Mohan Das Agarwal and another functionary Om Pathak, also sought the poll watchdog's action against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, accusing him of falsely claiming that Modi's caste was included in Gujarat's OBC list when he was the state chief minister. The Ghanchi caste, a community traditionally employed in oil pressing, was included in the OBC list in 1999 while Modi became chief minister in 2001, Pathak said. "We request the Election Commission to intervene urgently by taking appropriate legal action against Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi for their continued fraudulent, baseless and abusive practice and to pass a prohibitory order against them," the BJP delegation said in its communication to the ...

Congress will return to power, 'magic' will work: Rajasthan CM Gehlot

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said the accused in the Kanhaiya Lal killing case in Udaipur were "linked" to the BJP and should have been "hanged by now" but the investigation by the NIA was not progressing as it should. In an interview with PTI ahead of the November 25 state assembly polls, the senior Congress leader also spoke about the party's prospects in the state, the "red diary" issue and poll guarantees. Gehlot termed the red diary issue raked up by the BJP in the poll campaign as "nonsense", and said if there was any substance in their allegations, the diary should be handed over to the Enforcement Directorate, Income Tax department or CBI. A sacked minister had alleged that the red diary contains details of alleged financial irregularities committed by the Gehlot government. On Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeatedly attacking him in his election rallies and calling him a "magician", Gehlot said, The magic will work. He says (Congress) will be 'choo ..
