Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday claimed a "wave of change" was visible in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh and blasted the saffron outfit for making "false promises" to voters to retain power. Attacking his INDIA bloc ally Congress, Yadav said the Grand Old Party, when it headed the government at the Centre, did not implement the Mandal Commission recommendations. A wave of change was prevailing in Madhya Pradesh and SP candidates are going to win elections with a record margin," he stated. The former Uttar Pradesh CM was addressing an election meeting to drum up support for his party candidate from Niwari, Meera Yadav, on the last day of campaigning for the November 17 assembly polls. The SP has fielded 71 candidates in MP, which has a 230-member assembly, after it failed to enter into a pre-poll truck with the Congress - the largest constituent of the opposition INDIA grouping. "The Congress and the BJP formed governments in Madhya Pradesh but people ...
The Congress' Delhi unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely on Wednesday held a meeting of the 'shadow cabinet' of former ministers to discuss the pollution issue in the national capital, a party statement said. Lovely claimed many lives are lost in the wombs due to the pollution but the central and the Delhi governments have not bothered to draw up a roadmap to find a permanent solution to the problem. Leaders of both these governments are busy campaigning for elections in other states instead of tackling Delhi's woes, Lovely alleged. The meeting unanimously passed two resolutions -- one requesting Lt Governor VK Saxena and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to convene an all-party meet to discuss the pollution issue and the other for setting up of a high-powered monitoring committee headed by a Supreme Court judge and comprising environment experts and civil society members -- according to the statement. The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief said the meeting not only discussed th
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday alleged that the morale of terrorists and rioters soars wherever the Congress rules due to its "appeasement policy". Addressing an election rally in Barmer, he said that the upcoming assembly election is not just for electing MLAs, but it is for the return of law and order in Rajasthan and to protect the culture and traditions of the state by removing the Congress and bringing the BJP back to power. The prime minister said that in the last five years, people in the state have not been able to celebrate any festival peacefully. "Sometimes there are riots, sometimes stone pelting and curfew. This has been the picture of Congress in the last five years. Therefore, it is essential to remove Congress from here," he said. Prime Minister Modi said that under the Congress rule, Rajasthan is leading in incidents of atrocities against women. He said that in all central schemes of the last 10 years, women's safety and empowerment were given top ...
High-decibel campaigning came to an end on Wednesday evening for the November 17 assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, where top leaders of contesting parties criss-crossed the state addressing rallies, holding roadshows, trading charges and making a slew of promises to seek votes for their candidates. Electioneering ended in Madhya Pradesh at 6 pm except in Naxalites-hit districts of Balaghat, Mandla and Dindori, where campaigning drew to a close early at 3 pm. A total of 2,533 candidates are in the fray for the 230 assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, where the main battle for power is between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Congress. Reiterating his party's demand for a caste census, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said the day the Other Backward Classes, Dalits and tribals learn about their actual population, the "country will change forever." Speaking at a rally in Chhattisgarh's Bemetara district ahead of the second phase of assembly elections on November 17, he accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of not taking a clear stand on the issue. Modi ji flies in an aircraft worth Rs 12,000 crore and wears new clothes every day. He was elected using the word OBC (on the promise of acting in their interest), and when the time comes to give rights to the OBCs, he says there is no OBC and the poor are the only caste in India. We will find out how many OBCs are there. Whether Narendra Modi carries out a caste census or not, the day the Congress comes to power again in Chhattisgarh, a caste survey will start here....the day our government comes to power in Delhi, the first signature will be on the (order ...

Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) on Wednesday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly doing politics in the name of paying tribute to tribal icon Birsa Munda. Referring to assembly polls in five states Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram JPCC alleged that the prime minister wanted to derive political mileage out of the visit. JPCC president Rajesh Thakur said, "We welcome Prime Minister Modi to the state. The PM visited the birthplace of Birsa Munda. But, the way the stage was saffronised, we can say he (PM) did not come to pay tribute to him, but to derive political mileage for the elections being conducted in five states." Thakur accused the PM of adopting a double-standard approach for Jharkhand. "At one hand, he (PM) pays tribute to Birsa Munda, on the other he wants to send the Jharkhand chief minister, who follows the path of Birsa Munda and struggles for Jal-Jungle-Jamin, behind the bars." Thakur said Modi did not come a

The Congress, meanwhile, questioned the release of the money just two days ahead of assembly elections in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, and wondered if it was "intentional".
