ED arrests Ex-KPCC general secy in cooperative bank fraud case in Kerala

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) former general secretary, K K Abraham, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged loan scam that occurred during his tenure as president of a service cooperative bank in Wayanad district. Abraham was taken into custody on Tuesday night in connection with the Pulpally Service Cooperative bank scam, according to official sources. He was subsequently presented before a court on Wednesday, they said without elaborating. ED initiated a probe after receiving multiple allegations of financial irregularities within the bank during Abraham's time as president of the institution's governing body. The victims had approached the ED seeking probe into the scam. One of the victims of the scam had died by suicide a few months ago. Prior to the ED action, Abraham had been arrested by the Vigilance wing of the Kerala police following a cheating complaint filed by an elderly couple.

Coal blocks put on sale through transparent mechanism, says govt

The coal ministry on Wednesday clarified that post-cancellation of 204 blocks in the year 2014, the mines are being put on auction via a "transparent" mechanism. The clarification comes a day after Congress alleged that the Narendra Modi government reversed the long-standing policy of competitive auction for coal block allocation and gave away lucrative fields to the Adani Group. "Ministry of Coal has clarified that after cancellation of 204 coal mines in 2014, coal mines are being auctioned through a transparent mechanism and for various end uses power and non-regulated sectors," the ministry said in a release. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday accused the Congress of dragging its feet on implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme for defence forces and said it was his government that executed the policy and has so far deposited Rs 70,000 crore into the bank accounts of eligible retired personnel. The PM said his government opened the doors of Sainik Schools for girls and facilitated the deployment of women officers in forward areas. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday said the Congress will be contesting assembly elections on seven pre-poll promises announced by him for people of the state.
