Congress leaders expressed shock and sadness over the sudden demise of the party's Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary during the Bharat Jodo Yatra on Saturday. The party suspended the yatra for 24 hours as a mark of respect for the departed leader. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said Chaudhary's passing away is a great blow to the organisation. "Deeply shocked and saddened to learn about the untimely passing away of our MP, Shri Santokh Singh Chaudhary. His loss is a great blow to the party and organisation. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed his condolences over the demise of the Congress' Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, saying he will be remembered for his efforts to serve the people of Punjab. Chaudhary died on Saturday after suffering a cardiac arrest during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, following which the march was halted. He was 76. "Pained by the passing away of MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary Ji. He will be remembered for his efforts to serve the people of Punjab," Modi said in a tweet. "Condolences to his family and supporters. The Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo Yatra resumed Thursday morning from Doraha here as part of its Punjab leg, with scores of locals joining it. The Punjab leg of the foot march began on Wednesday from Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib.
