Maharashtra logs 1,094 new Covid-19 cases, 5 deaths; active tally at 7,043

Maharashtra on Wednesday added 1,094 fresh cases of COVID-19 and five more deaths due to the infection, taking the overall tally to 81,07,366 and the toll to 1,48,274, said a state health department official. The state on Tuesday had reported 869 cases and two deaths linked to the viral infection. Also, 1,747 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking their cumulative count to 79,52,049 and leaving the state with 7,043 active cases, he said. The state's coronavirus recovery rate was 98.08 per cent, while the fatality rate stood at 1.82 per cent, the official said. Of the five new coronavirus-related fatalities, four were reported from the Mumbai administrative circle and one from Kolhapur district, he said. The Mumbai administrative circle added 598 cases, followed by 266 in Pune, 46 in Nashik, 53 in Kolhapure, 14 in Aurangabad, 23 in Latur, 16 in Akola and 78 in the Nagpur circle, the official said. Chhattisgarh sees 140 coronavirus cases, one death, 190 recoveries

Chhattisgarh on Saturday reported 140 COVID-19 cases at a positivity rate of 2.21 per cent, taking the tally to 11,74,113, an official said. The death toll increased by one to reach 14,114, the official said. The recovery count stood at 11,59,254 after 190 persons were discharged during the day, leaving the state with 745 active cases, he added. "Durg led with 35 cases, followed by 16 in Rajnandgaon, 14 in Raipur, 12 in Surguja, among other districts. No coronavirus case was reported in six districts," the official informed. With 6,348 samples examined during the day, the overall number of coronavirus tests carried out in the state so far went up to 1,84,80,210, he added. India records over 6,000 new Covid cases in 24 hours; active tally declines

With 6,168 new coronavirus infections being reported in a day, India's tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 4,44,42,507, while the active cases declined to 59,210, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Friday. The death toll has climbed to 5,27,932 with 21 new fatalities that include two deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated. The active cases comprise 0.13 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has increased to 98.68 per cent, the health ministry said. There has been a decline of 3,538 cases in the active COVID-19 caseload in 24 hours. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.94 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was 2.51 per cent, the health ministry said. Tamil Nadu reports 494 fresh Covid-19 cases; no change in death toll

With 494 fresh cases, including a returnee from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Tamil Nadu's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 35,68,166, the health department said on Tuesday. First lady Jill Biden tested negative for COVID-19 on Monday and will return to Washington on Tuesday, nearly a week after she came downwith a rebound case of the coronavirus.
