Puducherry records 47 fresh Covid-19 cases, tally reaches 172,000

Puducherry confirmed 47 fresh cases of coronavirus on Saturday, raising overall tally to 1,72,981. While Puducherry region alone witnessed 39 new cases, Karaikal reported five and Yanam three. Mahe an enclave of Puducherry in Kerala had zero new case of viral infection. The 47 fresh cases surfaced during examination of 871 samples, Director of Health G Sriramulu said in a release. He said the active cases were 278 which comprised 10 patients undergoing treatment in hospitals and the remaining 268 in home quarantine. As many as 62 patients recovered during last twenty-four hours and the overall recoveries were 1,70,734. There was no fresh fatality today in any of the four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam. The toll remained 1,969. Sriramulu said the Department of Health has tested so far 23,82,403 samples and found 20,17,599 to be negative. Maharashtra logs 1,258 Covid-19 cases, 6 deaths; active tally now 9,197

Maharashtra on Friday reported 1,258 new COVID-19 cases and six more deaths linked to the infection, which took the tally to 81,02,377 and the toll to 1,48,257, a health official said. On Thursday, the state had seen 781 cases and four deaths. Of the new cases, 678 were from the Mumbai administrative circle, followed by the Pune circle (381), Nagpur (56), Kolhapur (49), Nashik (35), Akola (16), Aurangabad (12) and the Latur circle (9). An administrative circle consists of multiple districts. All the six deaths related to coronavirus were registered in the Mumbai circle -- three in the metropolis, two in Thane and one in Mira Bhayander, he added. Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 781 fresh coronavirus cases, 638 of them in Mumbai alone and a steep drop from a day ago, while four more patients succumbed to the infection in the state, the health department said.
