Air India takes steps to minimise impact of fog-related flight disruptions

To minimise the impact of fog-related flight disruptions, Air India on Saturday said it will proactively reach out to passengers and provide them the option to reschedule or cancel their impacted flights free of cost. The Tatas-owned airline has launched the 'FogCare' initiative to mitigate the impact of disruptions due to fog on passengers, and it will be initially for the flights departing from and arriving at Delhi airport. The initiative is to proactively reach out to passengers whose flights have been badly impacted and are likely to be cancelled during periods of fog. Such passengers can decide whether to travel to the airport or not, and avoid the inconvenience of long waits. Random Covid testing of int'l arriving passengers begins at Delhi airport

The random coronavirus testing of international arriving passengers started at Delhi airport on Saturday as the authorities step up measures to prevent possible spread of the infection in the country. Two per cent of passengers arriving in each international flight will be subject to random coronavirus testing at airports from Saturday. Such travellers in each flight shall be identified by the airlines concerned and after submitting the sample, passengers will be allowed to leave the airport. Thermal screening will be done for all passengers at the point of entry and those found to be symptomatic during screening will be immediately isolated. The testing of the international arriving passengers started in the morning, according to an airport official. "We are Ready! The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) is conducting a study to assess whether there is enough holding space for passengers at the immigration area of the Delhi airport, according to a senior government official. The ongoing study by the agency, which is responsible for civil aviation security, is aimed to ensure that there is no congestion at the immigration area once international air travel gains full steam after being severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic. In recent weeks, domestic and international passengers have been complaining about congestion at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here that led to long queues and waiting hours. Vikas Lagarpuria mastermind of multi-crore Gurugram heist arrested

Gangster Vikas Lagarpuria, the alleged mastermind of a multi-crore heist here last year and accused in cases of murder and extortion, has been arrested at Delhi airport, a special task force official said on Thursday. The arrest was in coordination with central agencies, the official added. The suspect hails from Lagarpur village in Haryana's Jhajjar district. He has several cases of murder, attempt to murder, robbery, extortion and kidnapping lodged against him in Delhi and Haryana. Absconding for the past seven years, Lagarpuria had a red corner notice issued against him by the Delhi Police. The Haryana STF has been looking for him for the Rs 30 crore heist in Gurugram. Two doctors, a Delhi policeman and a Haryana IPS officer are accused in the case. The incident had taken place on August 4 last year. All agencies taking actions to mitigate congestion at airports: Scindia

Civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday said all agencies have swung into action in the last 24-36 hours to mitigate congestion at all major airports. "Congestion at entry points and check-in counters at T3 has eased. Four additional X-ray machines have been added at the Security Hold Area; display boards showing wait time have come up. Deployment of CISF manpower has already kick-started, and will progressively increase in the next few days," he said. Scindia, in a LinkedIn post, said these steps will be emulated at the Bengaluru and Mumbai airports as well. Congestion at airports: CISF adds 100 more personnel at security counters

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has prepared a pool of more than 100 personnel to man additional security counters expected to be handed over to it for easing the ongoing congestion at large airports of Delhi and Mumbai, official sources said Wednesday. The central paramilitary, designated as the national aviation security force, has informed airport operators, airlines and the Union civil aviation ministry that while it can bring on board some more security personnel there can be "no compromise on security protocols and standard operating procedures followed by it for regular frisking of passengers and scanning of cabin baggage apart from fliers required to undergo extensive search due to specific profiling." Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Wednesday said necessary actions taken to reduce congestion at the Delhi airport have resulted in "least wait time" for boarding at check points and entry gates. In recent weeks, there have been rising passenger complaints about long waiting hours at the airport here and authorities have taken various measures to deal with the situation. Listing out the measures, the ministry in a series of tweets said more Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) manpower are underway and four X-ray machines have been added for baggage check.
