Delhi govt plans to expand ladies special bus service with 50 buses

The Delhi government plans to expand its ladies special bus service by adding around 50 buses, officials said on Saturday. According to officials, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will run 25 ladies special buses, which will be student-centric U-special, and the remaining 25 will be for Outer Delhi areas. "We plan to start 50 ladies' special buses soon under the PM e-Drive scheme. Initially, 25 of these buses will be deployed in Outer areas and 25 as University Specials," a senior government official said. Officials said the transport department has identified some areas, and work is ongoing for other areas as well. "The ladies special buses would only be for women travellers. We had some ladies special buses running earlier, but now we plan to expand in a more structured way. There will be more safety features in the buses," another official said. Delhi government has renamed the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation, set up for the conservation and redevelopment of Old Delhi, as the Indraprastha Virasat Punarvikas Nigam (IVPN), Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Thursday. The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the Delhi government's CAG audit of power discoms ordered against the backdrop of a staggering Rs 38,500 crore accumulated over the years as Regulatory Assets (RA) to be recovered from consumers. The Delhi government on Wednesday notified the "Delhi Electric Vehicles Policy 2026", which aims to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption, improve air quality, and create a supportive ecosystem for electric mobility. Delhi government's new portal for EV incentives is likely to be launched in four to five days, allowing buyers of eligible electric vehicles to apply online under the Delhi EV Policy, 2026, Transport department officials said on Tuesday. Under the new EV policy, verified applicants will receive purchase and scrapping incentives directly into their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer. "To claim purchase benefits, buyers must upload the dealer's purchase certificate and required documents. For scrapping incentives, owners need to submit a certificate from an authorised scrapping facility along with proof of new EV purchase," an official said. Delhi PWD brings down large national flags to prevent weather damage

After getting several complaints of damage, the Public Works Department has decided to bring down all 500 national flags across Delhi, officials said on Saturday. The PWD has hoisted large national flags at around 500 prime locations in Delhi, but due to bad weather, including strong winds in the past few days, several of these were damaged. "We will re-hoist the flags after the thunderstorm warning of IDM is cleared. Due to strong winds and bad weather, several flags were torn and damaged, so we have decided to bring all of them down across the city to prevent further damage," a PWD officer said. According to an official, these 115-foot-high flagpoles have been installed at around 500 locations. The flags are made out of polyester material to prevent them from frequent damage. However, they could not withstand strong winds. Delhi saw 543 fire-related deaths between 2019 and March 2026, data shows

Amid concerns being raised over fire safety measures in Delhi in the wake of Malviya Nagar hotel tragedy, official figures reveal that 543 people lost their lives in fire-related accidents in the city in the last six years. Twenty one people, mainly foreigners, lost their lives while 25 others were injured after a major fire tore through Flourish Stays B&B in a narrow bylane in south Delhi's Malviya Nagar on Wednesday. Nine people each were killed in recent fire incidents in Vivek Vihar and Palam areas. According to the Delhi government data, 543 people died in fire-related accidents from the year 2019 to March 2026. In the first half of 2026 alone, 65 deaths in fire accidents have been reported. The number of calls received by Delhi Fire Services (DFS) also witnessed a sharp rise in the last few years.
