Delhi govt investing in skill development of veterinary personnel: HC

The Delhi government is looking into immediate health care requirements of animals and also investing in the training and skill development of veterinary personnel with the construction of a college, the Delhi High Court has said. The high court said the state government is also seized of the threat posed by the Canine Distemper (CD) virus and Paravirus in animals and is actively vaccinating them for the same. A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Narula said welfare of animals is a noble cause, in line with the Directive Principle of State Policy as prescribed in the Constitution. However, the decision to prioritise availability of the vaccine, should fall within the expertise of veterinary specialists. The court's order came on a petition by Rahul Mohod, who lost his pet dog to the CD virus in 2019. The petitioner said there is absence of essential vaccines like Canine DHPPi vaccine (Distemper Combined 9-in-1 vaccine) which exhibits a glaring deficit

BJP and L-G Saxena turned Delhi into garbage mound, alleges AAP's Atishi

Delhi cabinet minister Atishi accused the BJP and Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Sunday of turning the national capital into a garbage mound, while asserting that the MCD under the AAP has been working hard for the last six months to clean the roads. In an interview to PTI on Saturday, Saxena said lesser efforts would have been required to clean Delhi had the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in the city worked throughout the last nine years. Atishi inspected the Moti Bagh stretch on Sunday. Reacting to Saxena's statement during her visit, she said, "Why has a need arisen to clean Delhi's roads? Why are mechanical sweeping machines being used on Delhi's roads? It is because the BJP did not do anything in its 15-year tenure in the MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi). "In fact, the MCD was under the LG for a year, but where did he get the work done? It is with pain that I have to say that the BJP and the LG have filled Delhi with garbage and today, when the AAP-led MCD is cleaning

Delhi govt sold over 610 mln liquor bottles, earned Rs 7,285 cr last year

Under its current excise policy, the Delhi government earned more than Rs 7,285 crore in the last year by selling over 61 crore liquor bottles, officials said on Saturday. The excise policy (old) currently under operation since September 1, 2022, was brought by the Delhi government after its ambitious new excise policy for 2021-22 came under the CBI scanner for alleged irregularities in its implementation. The total excise revenue collection from September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2023, was Rs 7,285.15 crore, including Rs 2,013.44 crore collected as value-added tax (VAT), said an Excise Department officer. In comparison, the revenue collection from the new excise policy was Rs 5,487.58 crore in 2021-22. The new excise policy, under which private parties were involved in retail liquor sales, was withdrawn by the Delhi government last year after LG VK Saxena recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in its implementation, officials said. As Delhi PWD minister, I was never called for any G20 prep meeting: Atishi

Delhi PWD minister Atishi Saturday dismissed Lt Governor V K Saxena's allegation that AAP ministers attended just one G20 preparatory meet, and said "had he involved us in preparations, we would have done better". The minister also said the AAP dispensation asked for Rs 927 crore from the Centre for the G20 preparations but did not get a single penny. However, she insisted now is not the time for a credit war. "This is not the time to say this is their work or this is our work. It is a matter of pride for the country that we are hosting the G20 Summit. I feel that if we work together, it will be good for the country," Atishi told PTI in an interview. With the countdown to the G20 Summit beginning, a political slugfest has erupted in Delhi with the BJP claiming the work has been done by the Centre, and the AAP rebutting it. "Till date, the Centre has not not given us a single penny for G20. We had asked for Rs 927 crore but we did not get anything. We didn't make it an issue thinkin

Delhi minister and senior AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Saturday alleged that a "sin" has been committed by installing 'shivlings' as fountains in a public space, and Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena should apologise to the nation for the act. The LG, however, countered the charge, saying, "I see it as a piece of art. I cannot comment on the opinion of others." Bharadwaj levelled the allegation during an interaction with media after inspection of work being done to beautify roads for the G20 Summit next week. Asked about the shivling fountains row, he said, "A sin has been committed by installing shivlings as fountains in a public place. "In public fountains, treated wastewater is circulated. Construction workers to get welfare schemes' benefits through DBT: Delhi LG

Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena has approved 17 welfare schemes, including disability pension and medical assistance, for registered construction workers of the national capital, officials said on Saturday. The benefits under the schemes would be provided by direct benefit transfer (DBT) after Aadhar-based authentication of the beneficiaries registered with Delhi Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (DBOCWWB), they said. Saxena has directed strict monitoring of disbursement process to ensure that benefits are given only to the genuine beneficiaries and there are no leakages, officials at LG office said.
