Traffic advisory issued as Yamuna water rises, commuters rue mile-long jams

The Delhi Traffic Police on Thursday issued an advisory on the restrictions and regulation of vehicular movement in place owing to rising water level of the Yamuna river as harried commuters struggled to reach their destinations. Closure of roads due to the overflowing Yamuna also hit traffic in several parts of the city, especially east Delhi, where passengers were stuck for hours. According to the advisory, the traffic movement has been impaired on Mahatma Gandhi Marg between IP flyover and Chandgi Ram Akhara, Mahatma Gandhi Marg between Kalighat Mandir and Delhi Secretariat, and Outer Ring Road between Wazirabad Bridge and Chandgi Ram Akhara. The commuters are advised to avoid the roads and plan their journey accordingly, it said. Non-destined commercial vehicles will not be allowed to enter Delhi and diverted to Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressway. The commercial vehicles will also be diverted from Mukarba Chowk. Delhi police issues advisory for inauguration of new Parliament on Sunday

Special traffic arrangements will be put in place in the national capital in view of the inauguration of the new Parliament building on May 28, police said on Friday. According to the traffic advisory issued, the New Delhi district will be treated as a controlled area. Only public transport vehicles, civil service aspirants, bonafide residents, labelled vehicles and emergency vehicles will be allowed to move in the New Delhi area, it stated. "The area enclosed by Mother Teresa Ceresent Road, roundabout Talkatora, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, roundabout Gol Dak Khana, Ashok Road, roundabout Patel Chowk, Ashok Road, roundabout Windsor Place, Janpath, roundabout MLNP, Akbar Road, roundabout Gol Methi, Akbar Road, roundabout GKP, Teen Murti Marg, roundabout Teen Murti and Mother Teresa Crescent Road will be treated as regulated area," the advisory said. Vehicular movement to be affected on Inner Ring Road due to DJB work

The vehicular movement will be affected on Inner Ring Road in the carriageway from Punjabi Bagh towards Prembari for the next six days due to ongoing Delhi Jal Board work, the Delhi Traffic Police said on Wednesday. Taking to Twitter, the traffic police alerted commuters about the possible congestion on Inner Ring Road, suggesting them to avoid the stretch till the repair work gets completed. "Traffic will remain affected on Inner Ring Road in the carriageway from Punjabi Bagh towards Prembari due to ongoing Delhi Jal Board work near Britannia Chowk for next 5/6 days. Only two Lanes are left for traffic movement. Kindly avoid the stretch," the Delhi Traffic Police tweeted. Authorities issue over 47.3 mn challan for traffic violations in 2022: Govt

Authorities have issued more than 4.73 crore challans worth Rs 7,563.60 crore for traffic violations across the country in 2022, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said authorities issued more than 4.21 crore challans worth Rs 5,318.70 crore for traffic violations across the country in 2021. While, revenue collected by issuing challans was Rs 2,874.41 crore in 2022, the outstanding amount stood at Rs 4,654.26 crore. To improve road safety and tighten traffic regulations such as issuance of driving licences and impose stricter penalties for violations, Parliament on August 5, 2019, had passed the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019. Traffic cops train in soft skills to welcome G20 guests in Greater Noida

As preparations are afoot for hosting G20 event in Greater Noida later this year, the local traffic police personnel are undergoing soft skill training to ensure the international visitors do not face any obstacles on the road. The Noida traffic police personnel will be at the service of G20 dignitaries right from Delhi airport, where a helpdesk would be set up for them. They are also coordinating with their Delhi counterparts to chalk out plan for glitch-free movement on the roads during the event, officials here said. Delhi traffic police issued 8,550 challans during Shab-e-Barat, Holi: Data

The Delhi traffic police issued more than 8,550 challans for violation of traffic rules during Shab-e-Barat and Holi this year, according to the official data. Many of those challaned included people who rode motorcycles without helmets and some were also fined for drunk driving. Ahead of the festivals, the Delhi Police had asked its officials to put a tight leash on stunt bikers during Shab-e-Barat and Holika Dahan. It had cited past events when young men visited India Gate, Connaught Place and other areas in New Delhi district and performed dangerous stunts on two-wheelers and even on three- and four-wheelers. Traffic advisory issued on Chirag Delhi flyover closure due to repair work

The police on Tuesday issued a traffic advisory in view of closure of carriageways of Chirag Delhi flyover on Outer Ring Road for 50 days from March 12 owing to repair work being undertaken by the Public Works Department. The repair work of each carriageway will take 25 days and it will be closed for the traffic while the other carriageway will remain operational, police said. According to the traffic advisory, the repair of the carriageway from Nehru Place to IIT Delhi Flyover will be taken up first and the repair of the carriageway from IIT Delhi Flyover to Nehru Place will be taken up thereafter. R-Day parade: Police issue traffic advisory for Monday's dress rehearsal

Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory on the arrangements and restrictions for smooth conduct of Monday's full dress rehearsal for the Republic Day parade. The rehearsal will start at 10.30 am from Vijay Chowk and pass via Kartavya Path, C-Hexagon, roundabout statue of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg before concluding at Red Fort. In order to facilitate its smooth passage, no traffic movement will be allowed on Kartavya Path from Vijay Chowk to India Gate from 6 pm on Sunday till the end of the parade on Monday. There will also be no cross-traffic on Kartavya Path at Rafi Marg, Janpath and Man Singh Road from 11 pm on Sunday till the parade ends.
