Two minor girls were raped every day last year in the national capital, which was the most unsafe metropolitan city for women across the country, according to the latest report of NCRB. Delhi also recorded 13,892 cases of crimes against women in 2021, a significant surge of more than 40% compared to 2020 when the figure was 9,782, the data showed. The cases of crimes against women in Delhi accounted for 32.20 per cent of total crimes in the category among all 19 metropolitan cities, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data. Delhi was followed by the financial capital Mumbai, which saw 5,543 such instances, and Bengaluru with 3,127 cases. Mumbai and Bengaluru accounted for 12.76 per cent and 7.2 per cent of total crimes in 19 cities, respectively. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has claimed that CBI officials will come to check his bank locker on Tuesday and said the agency sleuths will not find anything in it. Delhi reports 397 fresh Covid-19 cases, 5 deaths; positivity rate at 3.05%

Delhi on Sunday recorded 397 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.05 per cent, while five more people succumbed to the viral disease, according to data shared by the city health department. The new cases came out of 13,004 tests conducted the previous day, the department said in its latest bulletin. With the fresh cases and fatalities, Delhi's infection tally increased to 19,98,644 and the death toll climbed to 26,458, it said. The health department did not issue the daily bulletin on Saturday. On Friday, Delhi recorded 620 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.74 per cent and two fatalities. It logged 702 cases on Thursday with a positivity rate of 4.49 per cent and four fatalities. On Wednesday, the city recorded 945 cases with a positivity rate of 5.55 per cent and six fatalities. The number of active COVID-19 cases in Delhi stands at 2,605. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor's office has returned 47 files signed by the CMO staff instead of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, sources said Saturday. The move is likely to intensify the tussle between the two constitutional authorities in the national capital. The development came nearly a week after LG VK Saxena wrote to Kejriwal, pointing out that the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) was forwarding files seeking opinion and approvals to the LG Secretariat without his signatures. The files returned by the LG Secretariat included those related to the education department and the Waqf Board among others, the sources at the LG office said. The sources claimed that the CMO had continued to send files not signed by the chief minister despite the issue being raised by Saxena.

The Delhi transport department has processed nearly 22 lakh online applications since the launch of its faceless services over a year ago, officials said on Saturday. Transport-related services were moved to the faceless mode to provide an opportunity to citizens to avail them from the comfort of their homes, they said. It was launched on August 11 last year following a trial that began on February 19. As many as 45 services are available on the faceless mode. Since the start of trial, nearly 22 lakhs applications have been processed by the transport department. These include approximately 7.5 lakh applications for registration certificate and permit related services, 6 lakh applications for driving license related services, 3.5 lakh applications for e-learning licence services and nearly 4.6 lakh registration certifications that have been issued at dealer's end. Massive demolition drive conducted in south Delhi this year, says MCD

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Friday said it had conducted a "massive demolition drive" against unauthorise constructions in its south zone this year. The civic body, in a statement said, it will "intensify the demolition drive". The south zone has conducted a "massive demolition and sealing action drive" in different areas between January 1 and August 18 this year. The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday declared 21 universities as "fake" and not empowered to confer any degree, majority of which are in Delhi followed by Uttar Pradesh. Over 5,100 trees to be felled in Delhi for Saharanpur highway construction

More than 5,100 trees will be felled in Delhi for the construction of the six-lane Delhi-Saharanpur highway by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), according to official documents. A total of 9.58 hectares of deemed forest land in Delhi having 5,104 trees has been diverted for the construction of the 14.75-kilometre stretch of the highway. The tree species include Sheesham, Sahtut, Peepal, Champa, Ashok, Subabul, Neem, Eucalyptus, Kikar, Ber, Jamun and Gular. According to the Deputy Conservator of Forest (Central), all the 5,104 trees on the deemed forest land will be felled and compensatory afforestation will be raised at NTPC Eco Park, Badarpur at a cost of Rs 8.66 crore. The plan will focus on stubble management, dust pollution, vehicular emission, open burning of garbage, industrial pollution, green war room and Green Delhi application, pollution hotspots, real-time apportionment study, smog tower, e-waste parks, plantation, eco-farming, public participation, firecrackers and joint action with neighbouring states. Delhi will soon have 11 new hospitals that will add more than 10,000 beds to the city's health infrastructure, according to a statement issued by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who also holds the public works department (PWD) portfolio, announced this after reviewing various health infrastructure projects on Wednesday. Sisodia reviewed the progress of the construction work for hospitals being built at Siraspur, Jwalapuri, Madipur, Hastsal (Vikaspuri) as well as seven new semi-permanent hospitals with a capacity of 6,838 ICU beds, the statement said. "These 11 new hospitals will give a boost to the health infrastructure of Delhi and lakhs of Delhiites will be able to take advantage of these.
