Cold wave persists in Delhi for third day; IMD issues orange alert

Cold wave conditions prevailed over the national capital for the third consecutive day on Tuesday as temperatures dipped further and are likely to persist over the next day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The IMD said that Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which was 1.7 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 3.0 degrees Celsius, plunging 4.4 notches below the seasonal average. According to the weather department, the minimum temperature of around 3 degrees Celsius recorded at several stations made it the coldest January morning in the national capital in three years. Delhi had last recorded a lower minimum temperature of 1.4 degrees Celsius on January 16, 2023. Station-wise data recorded at 5.30 pm showed that Safdarjung Observatory, the city's principal weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius. Delhi govt raises sacramental wine quota, excise limits on denatured spirit

Delhi government has notified the amendments in the excise rules raising the storage and possession quantity of denatured spirit and enhanced the quota of sacramental wine for religious purposes, officials said on Monday. The upper limit of special denatured spirit that can be stored at licensed premises has been raised from 6,744 kilolitres to 15,000 kilolitres at any given time, said a recent Delhi government notification. The annual authorised possession limit for permit holders has also been increased from 64,000 kilolitres to 120,000 kilolitres. The Delhi Excise (Amendment) Rules, 2025, also revised Rule 20 of the Delhi Excise Rules relating to sacramental wine. Earlier, the Bishop of Delhi was allowed to purchase, transport and possess up to 91 litres of sacramental wine for church use. Delhi govt to upgrade ITIs with industry partners under PM-SETU scheme

The Delhi government has started the process of upgrading its Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), seeking to engage industry partners under the PM-SETU scheme, officials said. The Department of Training and Technical Education of the Delhi government is the implementing body of the Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM-SETU) scheme's hub and spoke model for the transformation of the ITIs in the city. The Dheerpur-ITI cluster comprising Dheerpur-ITI (hub) and four constituent spoke ITIs at Jail Road, Narela, Sirifort and Jaffarpur has been chosen for the implementation of the PM-SETU scheme in Delhi, the officials said. In such a cluster, the hub ITI might specialise in high-end advanced manufacturing trades, while the spoke ITIs provide foundational courses feeding into the hub. Turkman Gate violence: Delhi court sends 3 more accused to judicial custody

A Delhi court on Saturday sent three persons to 11-day judicial custody for their alleged involvement in the violence that broke out during a demolition drive near a mosque here in the Turkman Gate area. Accused of pelting stones near the Faiz-e-Elahi mosque at Turkman Gate, Ubaidullah, Mohammad Naved and Mohammad Faiz were produced before Kartik Taparia, duty judicial magistrate, fast track court, who remanded them to judicial custody till January 21. "In view of submissions of IO (investigating officer) concerned and also keeping in view the fact that the allegations against the accused are serious in nature and the investigation of the case is at initial stage, the application moved by the IO concerned is allowed," the court said. With the fresh arrests, police have apprehended 16 people, including a juvenile, so far. Delhi govt seeks 3,330 more electric buses under PM E-DRIVE scheme

The Delhi government has sent a detailed proposal to the central government agency Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) for the immediate procurement of 3,330 electric buses. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi government has requested the Centre and the Ministry of Heavy Industries to include this additional requirement, separate from the already allotted quota of 2,800 buses, under the subsidy model. She made it clear that if any technical hurdles arise with regard to subsidies, the Delhi government is fully prepared to bear the cost itself to ensure that there is no delay in procuring the buses. The Transport Department of the Delhi government has sought a total of 3,330 buses, comprising 500 buses of seven metres, 2,330 buses of nine metres and 500 buses of 12 metres. Delhi's water bill scheme benefits 2.1 lakh users, ₹11K cr waived: CM

More than 2.1 lakh consumers have availed the Late Payment Surcharge waiver scheme on water bills since its launch, Delhi government officials said on Saturday. The government aims to recover Rs 5,000 in pending dues of Delhi Jal Board (DJB), waiving late payment surcharge amounts to the tune of Rs 11,000 crore. During a discussion in the Delhi Assembly on Friday, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also hailed the waiver scheme and its benefits. "Earlier, people had to run around with their high water bills, but our government launched the waiver scheme in the water sector, which has registered 2,10,654 beneficiaries since its launch," Gupta has said. "Rs 224 crore revenue has been collected by DJB, and we are hoping more people will take this scheme", the chief minister added. Delhi Police bust Taiwan-linked cybercrime gang, recover ₹100 crore

The Delhi Police has busted a Taiwan-linked international cybercrime syndicate that allegedly defrauded around Rs 100 crore from people across India by impersonating anti-terror and law enforcement officers and placing them under "digital arrest", an official said on Saturday. Seven people, including a Taiwanese national allegedly coordinating the operation, have been arrested so far in the case, registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), IT Act and Telecommunications Act, police said. Delhi government raises Narela Education City budget to ₹1,300 crore

The Delhi government on Saturday announced a major push to develop Narela as a world-class education and innovation hub, with the project outlay for the proposed Narela Education City being increased from Rs 500 crore to Rs 1,300 crore, Education Minister Ashish Sood said.
