Strict action against agencies violating dust control norms in Delhi: Rai

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai on Monday said strict action will be taken against agencies found violating dust control norms in the national capital. The minister held a meeting with officials of government and private construction agencies and instructed them to follow the city government's guidelines to prevent dust pollution during the winter season. "All agencies engaged in construction work were instructed to follow 14-point guidelines to control dust pollution," he said in a post on X. It is mandatory to install anti-smog guns at construction and demolition sites larger than 5,000 square metres, he said. All construction agencies have to provide on-site training to workers regarding the guidelines, he added. The guidelines include erecting dust/wind-breaking walls of appropriate height around construction sites and covering scaffolding with tarpaulin or green netting. NDMC sets up panel to protect assets created during G20 summit from theft

The New Delhi Municipal Council has formed a dedicated committee to protect the assets created during the G20 Summit from theft and vandalisation. According to NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay, 70 fountains are now under the vigilant care of two executive engineers, each in charge of 35 fountains. "These engineers have been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the proper maintenance and functionality of these iconic fountains. NDMC has also renewed the annual maintenance contract for these fountains within its jurisdiction," he added. The NDMC has placed more than one lakh potted plants at various locations in its jurisdiction as part of the G20 beautification efforts. Upadhyay said that the plants will not be taken from their place at present and 30-35 security guards have also been deployed to take care of them. Carry out repair, beautification work in east Delhi areas: LG to officials

Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has directed civic officials to revamp roads, pavements, parks, and sewerage and drainage systems in east Delhi areas, officials said on Sunday. The Lt Governor's office will monitor the progress of the work and no status report will be accepted without photo or video evidence, they said. The direction came after Saxena visited several areas of east Delhi, including Shashtri Park, Mansarovar Park, Seelampur, Shyam Lal College, Karkardooma, Surajmal Park, and Dilshad Garden. He flagged the poor condition of roads, sanitation, encroachment, and clogged drains and directed civic agencies to begin the work immediately, officials said. Delhi L-G reviews civic infrastructure, flags poor condition of some roads

Lt Governor VK Saxena on Saturday reviewed the cleanliness and the infrastructure at various places in Delhi and flagged the poor condition of some roads and drains. In an interview to PTI earlier this month, Saxena had said the beautification of other parts of Delhi would also be carried out. He has already started carrying out inspections of areas that need beautification. Saxena spoke to PTI ahead of the G20 Summit. Vast stretches of the national were redeveloped for the mega event. "Starting from Yudhisthir Setu at ISBT, reviewed cleanliness and civic infra across GT Road-Shastri Park, Dilshad Garden and Kakardooma," Saxena said in a post on X. 'Applications of Delhi riots case accused seeking probe not maintainable'

The prosecution concluded its arguments on Friday against the applications filed by some of the people accused of hatching the conspiracy behind the 2020 northeast Delhi riots, seeking to know the status of the probe in the case, saying those were not maintainable. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat posted the matter on October 3 for rebuttal by the counsel for the accused applicants. During the proceedings, Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad cited a judgment and said, "A different and not less well-recognised rule, namely, where a power is given to do a certain thing in a certain way, the thing must be done in that way or not at all. Monthly avg rent of warehousing space in Delhi-NCR up by 20% in H12023

Monthly average rental of quality warehousing space in Delhi-NCR rose 19.9 per cent in the first six months of this year, according to a report by realtors body Credai and data analytics firm CRE Matrix. In their joint report released on Thursday, Credai and CRE Matrix highlighted that the Grade-A warehousing stock crossed 163 million square feet in the first half of 2023, owing to rapid industrial growth. During January-June period, the demand for Grade A warehousing space stood at 13 million square feet, whereas supply stood at 9.4 million square feet across six major cities. The vacancy level stood at a mere 8.8 per cent at the end of H1 2023, from the previous 10.5 per cent in the year-ago period. These six cities are -- Delhi- NCR, Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. Rental costs too have witnessed a 10 per cent surge across India wherein Delhi-NCR (almost 20 per cent) and Chennai (20.8 per cent) had the highest increments in rental rates

1984 riots: Delhi court to hear case against Jagdish Tytler on Oct 13

A Delhi court will start hearing on October 13 the arguments on whether to frame charges against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in a case related to the Pul Bangash killings during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. Special Judge Vikas Dhull, who was scheduled to start the proceedings on Wednesday, adjourned the matter on a prayer made by the counsel appearing for the accused. The counsel prayed for adjournment, claiming that he needed time to approach the authorities concerned for certified copies of certain documents related to the case. Tytler appeared before the court during the proceedings. The judge allowed the accused's plea after the CBI did not oppose the submissions. The counsel prayed for an adjournment. Battery of electric two-wheeler explodes while charging in Delhi's CR Park

The battery of an e-scooter exploded at a shop in south Delhi's CR Park area, police said on Wednesday. No one was injured in the incident, they said. Delhi plans to make document submission for overage vehicles faceless

The Delhi government plans to make the document submission process for overage vehicles completely faceless to ensure transparency, officials said on Tuesday. Five million such vehicles were deregistered between January and October last year. "We have plans to launch a portal and make the service completely faceless to ensure transparency. We are trying to ensure that the documents that have to be uploaded and the undertaking that they will have to submit, (the process) will be online," the official said. Another official said the Transport Department is almost ready with the fine points of the initiative and the file will be submitted to Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. The Delhi High Court had asked the city government to frame a policy on dealing with such vehicles when owners are willing to assure that these vehicles would not be used here. L-G directs mandatory geo-tagging of all civil work projects of Delhi govt

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has directed mandatory geo-tagging of all civil work-related projects of Delhi government departments to curb corruption, cost escalation and delay in execution, according to a note of the Raj Niwas. It will also be mandatory for contractors to upload pictures of project sites before and after completion on the IT department's portal for evaluation. Payments will be made to them following verification by authorities, it said. "The LG (lieutenant governor) has made it mandatory to geo-tag each and every project on the IT department portal to curb corruption, cost escalation and inordinate delays in execution of civil works by various Delhi government departments," the note issued on Monday said. NGT seeks action-taken report on noise pollution by banquet halls in Delhi

The National Green Tribunal has sought action-taken reports from the authorities concerned, including the Delhi Pollution Control Committee and the Delhi Police, on sound pollution by some banquet halls in Karol Bagh. The tribunal had in March directed the authorities to verify the facts and take remedial action. A bench of Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava said an action-taken report was submitted by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee's (DPCC) senior environmental engineer following the tribunal's order. The report revealed that the tribunal's directions were not complied with in "true letter and spirit and only paper compliances have been done", it said.
