Four persons, including three of a family, were killed and another injured on Sunday when a car carrying them collided with another vehicle in Assam's Dhubri district, a police officer said. The family was on their way to Dhubri town in the district from Goalpara, when a vehicle coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with their car on National Highway-31, killing four persons, including the driver, on spot, he said. The fifth person, the sole occupant of the vehicle which was coming from the other direction, sustained injuries and has been sent to Dhubri Civil Hospital, the officer said. The deceased have been identified as Rahul Roy (36), his wife Deepsikha Singha Roy, their one-and-half-year-old son Mayukh Roy and the driver of their car, Rafiqul Islam, he said, adding that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. At least six persons have been killed and one missing after strong winds, hail and rainstorm triggered floods in China's Jiangxi Province, local authorities said Sunday. The heavy downpours that started Thursday had damaged 77,400 hectares of crops, collapsed 118 houses and severely damaged 97 houses, according to the Jiangxi provincial emergency management department. Direct economic losses were estimated at 1.59 billion yuan (about USD 229 million), state-run Xinhua news agency reported. Nearly 88,000 residents have been relocated to safe places, and 45,000 residents are in urgent need of aid, the report said. Disaster relief supplies, including cotton quilts and bamboo mats, have been distributed by authorities to the affected residents, the report said. The regional meteorological bureau activated an emergency response on Friday and forecast the heavy rain to persist until June 12. The 37 metre long pilot schooner, built in 1883, was Hamburg's last remaining seagoing ship from the era of wooden ships and could be rented for harbour excursions, media reports said. A woman passenger, aboard a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight, sparked panic after she mistakenly opened the emergency exit door of the aircraft thinking it was the toilet. The national carrier said the plane was on the runaway of the Manchester airport early Saturday when the woman pressed the button, opening the emergency exit door. "The PIA flight, PK 702, from Manchester to Islamabad was delayed by seven hours. The departure was delayed on Friday night when a passenger erroneously opened the emergency exit causing the emergency chute to activate," said a PIA spokesperson. After the incident, about 40 passengers were offloaded along with their luggage as per standard operating procedure. The PIA said that the passengers were provided transportation and hotel accommodation and later on adjusted on other flight. A truck carrying LPG cylinders caught fire in Rajasthan's Pali district on Sunday, police said. While most of the cylinders exploded, no loss of life was reported in the incident, they said. "The moving truck caught fire on Sunday morning. The driver parked it at an isolated place along a highway and informed the locals and the police," SHO Sanderao Police Station Dholaram said. "The fire engulfed the vehicle and most of the LPG cylinders exploded," the officer said, adding no one was injured in the incident. Nearly 70 hours after two-year-old Fatehvir Singh fell into a 150-foot-deep borewell in Punjab's Sangrur district, officials Sunday said the operation to rescue him is in its "final stage". Fatehvir, who is the only child of his parents, fell into the unused borewell in a field while he was playing near his house around 4 pm Thursday, officials said. One person was killed and three others injured as thunderstorm and pre-monsoon rains hit parts of Nashik district in Maharashtra, officials said on Sunday. Trees were uprooted at some places in Nashik city due to the stormy winds on Saturday evening and power supply was disrupted in various localities for about five hours, a police official said. "A 70-year-old woman died when the tin roof of her house in Wadala locality here collapsed on Saturday during the rains coupled with thunderstorm," an official at Indira Nagar police station said. Three members of her family were also injured in the incident, he said. Heavy pre-monsoon showers also lashed the district's Yeola town where some houses suffered damages, another police official said.
