One killed, three injured after diesel tank explodes during welding

An 18-year-old man was killed and three others were injured on Thursday after the diesel tank of a truck exploded during welding in southeast Delhi's Govindpuri area, police said. The deceased was identified as Sumit, a resident of Dakshin Puri. Mohammad Nurain Khan, Nizamuddin and Vakil got injured in the incident, they said. According to a fire official, the department was informed about the incident at around 1 pm, following which two fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The Govindpuri Police Station received information at around 12.15 pm regarding the fire, police said. After reaching the spot, four people were found injured. They were rushed to Safdarjung Hospital where Sumit was declared brought dead, a senior police officer said. During investigation, it surfaced that Sumit, a welder, was repairing the diesel tank of the truck, police said. Trekkers from West Bengal stuck in HP's Kinnaur

A group of trekkers from West Bengal, including a woman, has got stuck near Rupin Pass on the way to Sangla valley in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district, an official said Thursday. Soon after the trekkers were reported stranded, an Indian Air Force helicopter was pressed into service to rescue them, but it could not land at the site due to adverse weather Thursday evening, the official said. The rescue operation would resume Friday at 5 am, he added. Trekker Sudha Bhattachargee was also reported to have injured her leg, the official said. The trekkers were on their way to Sangla valley in Kinnaur district via Rupin Pass from Dhaula in Uttarkashi district of neighbouring Uttarakhand, he added. The captain of a river cruise ship involved in a deadly collision last week with a smaller sightseeing boat in Budapest is already under investigation over another accident in April, Hungarian prosecutors said Thursday, as the toll rose to 17. AN-32 aircraft search op by helicopters called off due to bad light: Air Force

The search and rescue operation carried out by helicopters to trace the missing AN-32 aircraft has been called off due to low light, but the C-130J Super Hercules aircraft will continue with the mission during night, the Air Force said Thursday. The Russian-made aircraft took off from Jorhat on Monday at 12.27 pm for the Mechuka advance landing ground. Its last contact with the ground control was at 1 pm. Climbers' bodies to be retrieved via land route as IAF's repeated bids fail: DM

The bodies of five climbers, who died in avalanche while scaling the Nanda Devi East peak, will be brought back by the land route following IAF helicopters' repeated failure to retrieve them, said an official Thursday. An eight-member team of mountaineers, including seven foreign nationals, on its way to Nanda Devi East peak in Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand, was reported missing since May 25. The bodies of five of them were spotted Monday from an Indian Air Force helicopter during a search and rescue operation. The three other mountaineers are yet to be traced. Google Maps' SOS alerts feature has been improved to provide more information during natural disasters.As explained on the official blog, the SOS alerts will now show information related to hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. Govt must notify Food Safety and Standards Regulations: CUTS International Director

The Centre must notify the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2018 at the earliest, which will prove to be an important step in improving food safety standards in the country, George Cheriyan, a member of Central Advisory Committee of FSSAI and director of CUTS International, said. The first ever 'World Food Safety Day' on the theme of "Food Safety, Everyone's Business" will be observed across the world on June 7, 2019 and the early notification of the regulations will promote and facilitate actions for food safety, he said. According to a recently published NRAI India Food Service Report 2019, out of a total of 24.9 lakh food business operators in the country, only 4.67 lakh have a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence. Two killed as van hits their bike

Two persons were charred to death while their friend was injured when their motorcycle burst into flames after being hit by a speeding van on the Pallia-Nighasan road in Pallia here, police said Thursday. The accident occurred late Wednesday night, they said. The deceased were identified as Pankaj (25) and his friend Anil (24), both residents of Buddhapurwa village under the Nighasan Police Station limits, Pallia Circle Officer Pradeep Yadav said. The injured, Shankar, was rushed to district hospital and he is out of danger, police said. The three were on their way back home when the van, coming from the opposite direction, hit their motorcycle on the Pallia-Nighasan road near Tilkapur village, police said, adding that none of them was wearing helmets. Six killed, 30 injured in accident in UP's Hardoi

At least six persons were killed and 30 others injured when a truck collided with a tractor trolley in the district, police said Thursday. The incident took place in Sadarpur area of the district Wednesday night when 42 passengers of the tractor trolley were returning from a ceremony, they said. Circle officer, Hardoi, Vijay Singh Rana said the impact of the collision was such that the tractor trolley "fell into a ditch, turned turtle and then again turned back to its normal position". The deceased have been identified as Vishram (60), Gangaram (50), Shankar (55), Balakram (60), Rishi Kumar (30) and Rajaram (35), he said. Around 16 persons have been admitted to the Hardoi district hospital, while the rest are being treated at the community health centre in Bilgram.
