One killed, three injured in road accident in UP

A truck collided with a stationary vehicle on the Delhi-Dehradun highway, killing the truck driver and injuring three others, police said Tuesday. The accident occurred Monday night under the Ratenpuri police station area here, they said. The deceased was identified as Charan Singh. He was 30, they said. The injured were admitted to a hospital, the police added.

Fire in garment company office in Noida

A fire broke out in the office of a garment company in Sector 63 here on Tuesday morning, officials said. Nobody was injured in the fire that broke out in D block in the industrial hub around 8 am, the officials said. Seven-eight fire tenders were rushed to the site soon after we received a call alerting us about the blaze and the fire was contained in two hours, Noida Chief Fire Officer Sunil Singh said. The fire had spread to the first floor of the building. No injuries have been reported in the episode, he said. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, the officer said.

Three hurt in explosion in factory

Three workers were injured, two of them seriously, in a fire triggered by an explosion in an industrial unit in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an MIDC official said Tuesday. The explosion occurred in a reactor of the chemical unit in Boisar MIDC in Tarapur Monay midnight, said Dinesh Ambure, Assistant Station Officer (ASO), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Boisar. The injured workers were admitted in hospitals in Tarapur and Mumbai. The fire was brought under control after an hour. Further investigation is underway.

DFS identifies coaching centres with fire safety negligence

The Delhi government has ordered to inspect whether fire safety norms are being complied with at coaching centres across the city while the Delhi Fire Service Chief informed that areas, where negligence is seen, have already been identified."We have identified areas where negligence has been seen. After the incident of fire at a hotel in Paharganj earlier this year, notices were served to many guest houses, "said Vipin Kaintal, Chief Fire Officer (CFO), Delhi Fire Service.Yesterday, Delhi Urban Development Minister, Satyendra Jain said that Delhi government has instructed fire officials to inspect all the coaching centres in the city in the wake of Surat coaching centre tragedy which claimed the lives of 20 students."We have instructed the officials to inspect all coaching centres. Maharashtra: Chemical blast injures two in Palghar

A deadly concoction of chemicals stored at a factory in the industrial area of Palghar caused an explosion injuring at least two labourers on Tuesday morning.The injured workers have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Besides, some laborers are reportedly missing from the accident site.According to the police, the incident took place at around 12:10 am and the explosion was heard in a radius of around five kilometers.The blast took place at Varsha Organic Private Ltd. in Tarapur industrial area of Palghar."We have taken two inured to the hospital in our vehicle. Only fire officials and chemical experts can tell us the reason behind the blast," a police officer present at the spot said.Last year, a similar incident took place in Uttar Pradesh. An explosion took place in September at a petrochemical factory in Bijnor wherein six people lost their lives and two sustained injuries.

Malaysia to send back plastic waste to foreign nations

Malaysia says it will send back some 3,000 metric tonnes (330 tons) of non-recyclable plastic waste to countries including the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia in a move to avoid becoming a dumping ground for rich nations. Environment Minister Yeo Bee Yin says 60 containers stacked with contaminated waste were smuggled in to illegal processing facilities in Malaysia. She said Tuesday that 10 containers will be shipped back within two weeks as she showed reporters contents of the waste at a port outside Kuala Lumpur. The waste that was displayed included cables from the U.K., contaminated milk cartons from Australia and compact discs from Bangladesh. Also shown were electronic and household waste from the U.S., Canada, Japan, Saudi Arabia and China.

Japan mass stabbing: One child, suspect confirmed dead

At least one elementary schoolgirl has been confirmed dead in a mass stabbing incident in the Japanese city of Kawasaki on Tuesday morning, police said.The attacker, a 57-year-old man, has also died after reportedly stabbing himself in the neck following the attack on at least 19 people, including 16 elementary schoolgirls, reports NHK.Additionally, three other people, including a schoolgirl, are being treated for serious injuries.A witness said that the suspect was holding a knife in each hand and began stabbing the victims as they waited to board a bus. Fire at bulb manufacturing unit in Delhi

A fire broke out at a bulb manufacturing unit in Udyog Nagar in west Delhi on Tuesday, the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said. No casualty has been reported. The fire department said they received a call about the blaze at 5.15 am following which 22 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The fire broke out on the ground floor and spread to two floors above. The factory also manufactures spare parts, a senior fire officer said. The fire officer said they brought the flames under control by 8.35 am. A short circuit is suspected to be the cause of the fire, the official said.

Rajasthan: 10 killed, 6 injured after 2 cars collided near Jodhpur

Surat fire tragedy: Municipal Corporation issues notices to over 3,000 building failing security norms

In the aftermath of the Surat fire tragedy, the Surat Municipal Corporation issued "notices or sealed 3,000-3,500 buildings" across the city which does not have fire safety equipment installed."We have issued notices to all those buildings where fire safety equipment needs to be installed.
