A massive fire broke out Monday at a chemical factory in an industrial estate in Sanad near here in Gujarat, but nobody was injured in the incident. The blaze occurred this evening in the godown of a chemical unit located in Uma Estate where the barrels filled with chemicals were stored, a fire department official said. The fire spread rapidly as the chemical-filled drums exploded one after another. Around 15 fire tenders are trying to put out the flames. "Fire broke out at the godown located in the compound of the chemical factory where chemical drums are stored. Due to fire, many drums containing solvent exploded, fuelling the fire further. However, fire personnel prevented the blaze from spreading to other areas," said Ahmedabad Chief Fire Officer M F Dastur. "No loss to life or injury has been reported," he added.
In the wake of the Surat fire tragedy, the Delhi government has directed the city's fire department to take immediate action for "closing down" coaching institutes operating above the fourth floor in buildings in violation of fire safety norms. The Delhi Fire Service director has been directed to "take strict action as per fire safety standards and guidelines to prevent recurrence of such accidents (Surat fire)," an official order issued by Home Minister Satyendar Jain said. "It is further directed that as a precautionary step, in the first phase, all such coaching centres operating in high-rise buildings (having more than four floors, excluding stilt floor) shall be inspected by the director (fire service)," the order said. "He shall take immediate action for closing down the operation of coaching institutes operating above the fourth floor in such buildings in violation of the fire norms," it added. A fire broke out on the fifth floor of a doctors' hostel in the premises of G B Pant hospital on Monday, Delhi Fire Service said. However, no injury or casualty was reported, fire officials said. The fire department said they received a call about the blaze at around 10.30 am after which six fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and by 10:45 pm it was brought under control. "A fire broke out in the room of the doctors' hostel on the fifth floor of the building. The fire started from an air-conditioner in the room," a senior DFS official said. A senior official of the hospital also said the fire has occurred on the fifth floor of the doctors' hostel, but no one was injured.

Twelve persons sitting atop a speeding bus were injured after coming into contact with a high tension wire in Pakur district on Monday, police said here. The bus was carrying a marriage party from Babayakoda village to Datoi-Murgadanga village when the passengers came in contact with the high tension wire in Maheshpur area, the sources said. All the injured persons were admitted to Maheshpur Health Centre with burn, the sources said. After first-aid, two of the injured were taken to a hospital in neighbouring West Bengal by their families for treatment, the sources added.

Nepal-based Buddha Air started flight operations between Kathmandu and Kolkata on Monday, an Airports Authority of India (AAI) spokesperson said. The airline's maiden flight arrived at Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International (NSCBI) airport in Kolkata with 56 passengers and a total 64 passengers went to Kathmandu in the return flight, An AAI statement said. Two persons were killed when a truck and an oil tanker caught fire after a head-on collision in Rajasthan's Nagaur district on Monday, police said. The truck driver escaped from his vehicle and fled the scene, but his helper and the oil tanker's driver died in the fire, the police said. One of the deceased has been identified as Kesaram, a resident of Barmer district's Gudamalani area, while the identity of another is yet to be ascertained, the police said, adding that the bodies had been kept in a mortuary.

A fire broke out at a pesticide factory in Vishwakarma Industrial Area near here on Monday but there was no loss of life, police said. Nine fire tenders were pressed into service and the blaze was doused after much efforts, fire officer Mohar Singh said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sent nearly 65 lakh messages to the people in eastern and southern India to give them updates about Cyclone Fani that hit the Odisha coast earlier this month, a report said. Officials in Kuwait say eight people were killed and one person was in critical condition after a car accident in an area just outside the country's capital. The state-run Kuwait News Agency and other local media quoting fire department officials say the accident took place early on Monday in the Kabd area, southeast of Kuwait City. The Al-Jarida newspaper says a vehicle struck a crowd that was gathered around where an accident involving three cars had occurred, leading to a deadly four-car pileup. Those killed include seven Kuwaitis and one Gulf national from a neighboring country. No further details were given.

At least eight people were killed and one injured on Monday in a mishap involving four cars in an area outside Kuwait's capital, the police said.
Three shops were gutted in a fire which broke out in a busy market area of the city on Monday, Fire and Rescue official said. The fire reported from a shop in the second floor of an old building in the Broadway market at around 10 a.m was put out in two hours, they said. Traders nearby who detected black smoke emanating from the building informed the authorities who rushed to the area and evacuated people from the shops. Three shops including a textile shop were fully gutted in the fire, officials said. The officials said possible violation of safety norms would be looked into.
