Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Saturday unveiled a Flood Hazard Atlas for better preparedness. Patnaik unveiled the atlas at the State Level Natural Calamity Committee meeting here. The chief minister said "This atlas will help identify the disaster prone areas of the state so that necessary plans can be made to tackle the situation." He said the atlas prepared by National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad and Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), will help management of the flood in the state as "Odisha is a flood prone state. The flood causes extensive damage to life and property." The flood hazard atlas has been made after ascertaining data on flood between 2000 and 2018. Mild tremors were experienced for a few seconds in a couple of villages in Nirmal district of Telangana, a district officials said Saturday. The quake occurred on Friday night, the officials said. By the tremors ended, the residents of the villages, bordering Maharashtra, came out of their houses, they said. No loss has been reported, they added.
Nine people died in a fiery crash of a small airplane used in a sky dive operation, officials in Hawaii said. There were no survivors after the twin engine King Air plane crashed Friday night near Dillingham Airfield, on Oahu's North Shore, Hawaii Department of Transportation spokesman Tim Sakahara said. "Upon arrival, we saw the plane fully engulfed in fire," Honolulu Fire Chief Manuel Neves told reporters on the scene. "The first crews on scene extinguished the fire." Neves said the crashed occurred near the perimeter fencing of the small airport. "They're quite a ways away from the runway," he said. The plane was used in a sky dive operation, and Neves said some family members of those on board waited at the airport for the plane to return. At least seven people died Saturday when an under-construction building owned by a Chinese company collapsed at a Cambodian beach resort, officials said, as rescuers scoured the giant rubble heap for survivors. Eight persons, including a couple and their son, were killed in three separate road accidents in Rajasthan, police said on Saturday. Five persons were killed on Friday night in a car-motorcycle collision in Bhadra area of Hanumangarh, they said. Jagatpal, who was riding the motorcycle, died on the spot while his wife Sarita, their son Rohan, and relative Seema succumbed to injuries in hospital, acting Station House Officer of Bhadra PoliceStation Jaman Singh said. He said one of the two men travelling in the car, identified as Jaan Mohammand, also died in the mishap. Authorities in New Hampshire say seven people have been killed in a crash between a pickup truck and several motorcycles on a rural highway. Four people en route to Kedarnath were killed Saturday after their car rammed into an electric pole on the national highway 30, police said. The accident took place near the turn leading to Bareilly in Shahjahanpur city after the driver lost control of the vehicle, they said. While Durgesh Kumar (36), Vikas (28), Neeraj Tiwari (35) Umesh (30) were killed on the spot, Sriprakash was injured and his condition was stated to be stable, the police said. Two people have been identified as suspects by authorities investigating a deadly fire at an Indonesian lighter factory that killed 30 people including several children, a police chief said Saturday. A man and a woman, named only as the owner and supervisor of the workshop, were arrested in North Sumatra's capital Medan shortly after the fire ripped through a rented home that operated as a lighter factory in the town of Binjai, about 70 kilometres (44 miles) west of the capital. Local police chief Nugroho Tri Nuryanto told AFP the pair were being investigated for "negligence" and could face up to five years in prison. Three people died and another was seriously injured in a fire that broke out in a building in central Paris in the early hours of Saturday, fire services said. One of the victims died after jumping out of the window of the six-storey block of flats situated in the 11th district, which also housed a restaurant and a hammam, a spokesman for the fire services said. The blaze was reported at around 5:00 am (0300 GMT) and it took nearly four hours for 200 firefighters to bring it under control, according to fire captain Florian Lointier. By 08:45 am, the fire still wasn't fully extinguished. A total of 27 people were treated for smoke inhalation, the rescue services said.
More than 200 patients were shifted to safety after a minor fire broke out at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital here early on Saturday, according to a statement. Eighteen people were injured Saturday when a minibus turned turtle in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The accident occurred at Fogmorh near Shalimar and the injured, including the driver of the bus, were shifted to the district hospital, a police official said. He said the bus was on its way to Kishtwar town from remote Kandni village. District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, A S Rana visited the injured in the hospital to enquire about their condition. A woman and her newborn were killed and three others, including her husband, seriously injured when an auto-rickshaw carrying them collided with a truck in Odisha's Kendrapara district on Saturday, a police officer said. The woman, 25, was returning home from a hospital, where she gave birth to a girl on Friday, when the accident occurred around 8.30 am at Khamara Chowk on the Paradip- Daitary Expressway in Kendrapara Sadar police station area of the district, he said. The truck driver abandoned his vehicle on the road and fled the spot, the officer said. In a joint operation by the Army and Assam Rifles, the "senior-most officer" of NSCN (K) Yung Aung faction, responsible for ambush on 40th Assam Rifles leading to death of two soldiers, was apprehended in Nagaland on Friday, sources said. Two cadres of his outfit were also apprehended. Acting on human and technical intelligence, the three were apprehended on Aboi-Mon Road, a source said. Tremors occurred at 9:10pm and were felt in Kinwat, Mahur, Hadgaon and Himayatnagar areas of Nanded, and Umarkhed, Karanjkhed, Pohandul, Hota and Valad in Yavatmal, he said.
