Jodie Foster's mother Evelyn dies at 90

Evelyn "Brandy" Foster, mother and manager of actor Jodie Foster, has died. She was 90. According to Variety, Evelyn passed away on May 13 at her Los Angeles home from complications related to dementia. "Evelyn was without a doubt the strongest person her family has ever met, a champion, a fighter, full of fire and love. No one could beat her style, all five feet tall with naturally 'corkscrew' hair. Her family will remember those dimple smiles and big hugs and well-placed four-letter words. No one messed with Nana, an original like no other. May she live in all of us forever," her family said in a statement. Apart from her daughter Jodie, Evelyn managed her son Buddy Foster's career as well. He featured in the 1968-71 CBS series "Mayberry RFD". She is also survived by daughters Lucinda and Constance.

Amazon cancels 'The Tick' after two seasons

"The Tick" has been cancelled after two seasons by Amazon. Ben Edlund, who created the comic book on which the series was based, took to Twitter to break the news. "I'm sorry to say Amazon has chosen not to proceed with ('The Tick'). I'm not sorry to say I love this show, its cast, its story, and its message. Destiny demands that my compatriots and I now seek a new home for this series," Edlund wrote. The show revolved around a nigh-invulnerable superhero who fights crime in The City dressed as a massive blue tick. Actor Peter Serafinowicz played the titular role. The show also starred Griffin Newman, Valorie Curry, Brendan Hines, Scott Speiser, Yara Martinez, and featured the voice of Alan Tudyk as Dangerboat.

Robert Pattinson in talks to play Batman

British actor Robert Pattinson is in negotiations to play Batman in Warner Bros and Matt Reeves' upcoming film on the Caped Crusader. The superhero drama begins pre-production soon and the filming is expected to start by the end of 2019 or early 2020. According to Variety, Pattinson, 33, is topping the list of the contenders to play Batman, after Ben Affleck quit the job post the release of "Justice League". Affleck, who played the character in three Warner Bros-DC comics film -- "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", "Suicide Squad" and "Justice League"-- was also suppose to helm "The Batman". Reeves came on board as the director after his exit. If the deal is closed, Pattinson will be the youngest actor to play Batman in the movies. Warner Bros has not yet made any formal announcement regarding Pattinson's casting.

Israel has proposed India to be the focus country at Jerusalem Film Festival next year during a meeting between the delegations of the two countries at the Cannes International Film Festival on Thursday. Indian film "Newton", starring Rajkummar Rao, has created a buzz in Israel, the Israeli delegation said.
