Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief at the loss of lives in a fire tragedy in Gujarat's Rajkot and said the local administration is working to provide all possible assistance to those affected. At least 11 persons, including children, were killed and three others injured in a massive fire that broke out in a crowded game zone in Rajkot city in the evening, police said. Rajkot tragedy: Cong demands fire audit of game zones, malls in Maharashtra

The Congress on Saturday demanded that the Maharashtra government conduct a fire safety audit of game zones and malls to prevent incidents like the Rajkot fire tragedy in Gujarat which claimed 22 lives. Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad expressed shock over the death of children in the huge fire at a game zone in Rajkot. "Just announcing compensation will not be enough. The Gujarat government needs to take strong measures to ensure the safety of the lives of people," the Congress leader said. The Maharashtra government and the Mumbai municipal administration should conduct a fire safety audit of game zones and malls in the city and the rest of the state immediately, Gaikwad added. A massive fire broke out at a gaming zone in Gujarat's Rajkot city on Saturday evening with casualties feared, police said. "A fire broke out at the TRP gaming zone and there is information of some casualties," Rajkot Police Commissioner Raju Bhargav told media persons. He said an effort was underway to control the blaze. The number of casualties, if any, will be known once the fire is brought under control and a cooling operation is conducted. "We will then be able to find out the exact number of casualties inside the zone (after fire is controlled). We will also investigate the cause of the fire, and a message has been issued to all the gaming zones in the city to shut," he said.

Dombivli blast: KDMC urges public to share info if their kin missing

The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Maharashtra's Thane district has appealed to citizens to contact one of its civic hospitals if any of their family members are missing after the recent chemical factory blast. A boiler blast and the resultant fire in the factory of Amudan Chemicals, located in Phase 2 of Dombivli MIDC, on Thursday killed nine persons and injured over 60. KDMC said in a release that a helpdesk has been set up at the civic-run Shastri Nagar hospital and citizens can get in touch with it on 0251-2481073/2495338. Major fire breaks out in local slum cluster in Gurugram, 65 shanties gutted

About 65 shanties were gutted after a major fire broke out in local slum cluster in sector 65 here on Saturday, a fire official said. Initial investigations have revealed the cause of the fire was a cooking gas leakage, the official said. According to police, a fire broke out in the sector 65 area around 10 am. Five fire engines were immediately pressed into the service, they said, adding that the blaze was brought under control but 65 shanties were gutted. There were no casualties or burn injuries reported, the police said. At least nine killed, 15 injured as bus catches fire in Haryana's Nuh

At least eight people were burnt alive and more than 20 were injured when a moving bus caught fire near Tauru in Haryana's Nuh district in the early hours of Saturday, police said. The incident occurred around 2 am on the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway. The bus was carrying around 60 people, all of whom were residents of Punjab and Chandigarh and were returning from Mathura-Vrindavan, police said. Three major fire incidents across Delhi, no injuries reported, says DFS

Three major fire incidents took place at different parts of the city, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials said on Friday. No information regarding any injury was reported till late evening, the officials said. "A big fire broke out in a factory in Kirti Nagar area of west Delhi. We received call regarding the fire at 3.37 pm from the Kirti Nagar industrial area. A total of 25 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. No injuries was reported," DFS chief Atul Garg said. Garg said that another similar incident was reported at a factory in the Bawana industrial area in outer Delhi and 15 fire tenders were pressed into service. "No injuries was reported from the Bawana area. We had received a call at 5.05 pm," the DFS chief said. He said another blaze broke out at a banquet hall near Kalkaji Metro Station in south Delhi. "We rescued three people safely from the roof of second floor of the banquet hall. We had received a call regarding this fire at 6.56 pm," Garg said.

Major fire breaks out in Kolkata, several shanties gutted, none injured

A major fire broke out in Dum Dum area of Kolkata on Saturday morning, gutting several shanties in a slum, officials said. However, no casualties have been reported so far in the incident that took place in Mela Bagan in Dum Dum area. 21 workers under medical observation after fire at SAIL's Bokaro plant

Around 15 workers of SAIL's Bokaro Steel Plant have been kept under medical observation after a fire broke out on Saturday morning, an official said.
