Govt earning more from taxes on common people than on corporates: Rahul

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused the government of imposing high taxes on common people and reducing tax to its "friends". Taking to Twitter, he also shows a graph alleging that the government is earning more revenue from taxes on common people and less from corporates due to lower tax. "Raise taxes on people, cut taxes for Mitron - the 'natural course' of action for suit-boot-loot sarkar," Gandhi said in a tweet, while sharing the graph. The graph shared by him gave a comparison of "less tax on people versus more tax on people", which shows that corporate tax over the years is coming down and tax on people is going up. The graph also showed that the percentage of revenues collected by the government over the years is higher from people than from corporates. All 23 AIIMS to be named after local heroes, monuments: Report

The government has firmed up a proposal to give specific names to all the AIIMS, including that in Delhi, based on regional heroes, freedom fighters, historical events or monuments of the area or their distinct geographical identity. Majority of the 23 All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have submitted a list of names, after the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare sought suggestions from them in this matter, official sources told PTI. AIIMS, many of which are operational while others being set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY), are known by its generic name and distinguished only by their location, an official explained. "So, the Union health ministry has drafted a proposal to give specific names to all the 23 AIIMS, which include those fully functional, partially operational or under construction," the source said. Govt amends rules for physical verification of cos' registered addresses

The government has amended rules to ensure a transparent process for the physical verification of companies' registered addresses, including by way of having the presence of independent witnesses and clicking a photograph of the registered office at the time of the verification. The rules under the Companies Act, 2014, have been amended by the corporate affairs ministry and will come into effect once notified in the Official Gazette. Under Section 12 of the Act, a Registrar of Companies (RoC) can do a physical verification of a company's registered office if he or she has a reasonable cause to believe that the company concerned is not carrying out business in a proper manner. Now, the process for such physical verifications has been put in place under the Act. The physical verification will be done in the presence of two independent witnesses of the locality in which the company's registered office is situated. Over 4,500 faculty positions are vacant in 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Ministry of Education informed the Rajya Sabha. According to data shared with the Upper House of Parliament, IITs in Kharagpur with 798 vacancies and Bombay with 517 vacancies have the most faculty positions vacant. The top-ranked IIT-Madras too has 482 faculty positions lying vacant. A total of 4,596 teaching positions are vacant in the IITs. "Filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and IITs issue rolling advertisements, which are open throughout the year for all candidates, who fulfil the required qualifications and experience for faculty positions in IITs, said Union Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar in a written reply.
