Eleven people from Gujarat were killed and at least 15 injured when a trailer rammed into their bus from behind in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district early on Wednesday, police said. The bus was on its way from Gujarat to Mathura in Uttar Pradesh when the accident occurred around 4.30 am, they said. The bus had halted at Antra flyover in the Lakhanpur area when the trailer rammed into it from behind. Five men and six women died on the spot, the police said. According to the police control room, Antu, Nandram, Lallu, Bharat, Lalji, his wife Madhuben, Ambaben, Kambuben, Ramuben, Anjuben and Madhuben -- the wife of one Arvind -- died in the accident. They were from Dihor in Gujarat's Bhav Nagar.

The BJP government in Gujarat on Tuesday announced a 27 per cent reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in local bodies like panchayats, municipalities and civic corporations on the basis of a commission's report, paving the way for polls in these self-governing institutes. However, in areas notified under the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) (PESA) Act -- most of them with substantial tribal population -- the reservation for OBCs in local bodies will continue to be 10 per cent. Also, the existing quota for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes remain unchanged and there has been no breach of the 50 per cent reservation ceiling, the Gujarat government said. Gujarat Congress chief Shaktisinh Gohil on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the state of making an excess payment of Rs 3,900 crore to Adani Power Mundra Limited (APMuL) over five years under two power purchase agreements (PPA), an allegation the government denied. Shell Energy India on Wednesday said it will invest Rs 3,500 crore in Gujarat to set up a renewable energy facility, charging stations for electric vehicles, and an LNG regasification terminal, which would create nearly 4,300 jobs. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed between the Gujarat government and Shell Energy India in Gandhinagar on Wednesday in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, a government release said. The agreement has been signed as part of the upcoming 10th edition of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit to be held in January next year, said the release. Under this MoU, Shell Energy India will invest Rs 2,200 crore to set up a renewable energy production facility on 1,200 acres in Banaskantha district of north Gujarat. Total banking transactions at GIFT International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) here reached USD 508 billion till July 2023, an official said on Tuesday. GIFT IFSC Executive Director Dipesh Shah said that till July 2023, the total banking asset size at GIFT IFSC stood at USD 41.20 billion, and cumulative derivative transactions booked by banks were worth USD 632 billion. There were a total of over 545 IFSCA registered entities at GIFT IFSC till July 2023, including 25 aircraft and shipping entities, and monthly turnover on the IFSC international stock exchange in July 2023 was USD 60.33 billion. Total commitments made to alternative investment funds till July 2023 was at USD 17.8 billion, he said.
