BJP leaders meet to discuss election strategy for Haryana Assembly polls

Senior BJP leaders held a meeting on Monday to discuss the party's strategy for the assembly elections in Haryana, due later this year. Home Minister Amit Shah, Union ministers Dharmendra Pradhan, Manohar Lal Khattar and Krishna Pal Gurjar were present at the meeting, presided over by BJP chief JP Nadda at the party's headquarters in the national capital. The BJP's Haryana core group leaders, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, were also present. The meeting came within hours of Nadda appointing Pradhan as the party's election in-charge for Haryana, setting in motion its preparations for the assembly polls. Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb was made the party's co-election in-charge. Nadda also appointed the party's election in-charges and co-incharges for assembly polls-bound Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. BJP govt not in trouble, working strongly, says Haryana CM

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday said his government is not in trouble and is working strongly, a day after three Independent MLAs withdrew support to the BJP dispensation in the state. MLAs Sombir Sangwan (Dadri), Randhir Singh Gollen (Pundri) and Dharampal Gonder (Nilokheri) on Tuesday withdrew support to the BJP government and announced that they would back the Congress, reducing the Saini government to a minority in the state assembly. "The government is not in any trouble, it is working strongly," Saini told reporters in Sirsa when asked to comment on the withdrawal of support. Saini was campaigning for BJP's Sirsa Lok Sabha candidate Ashok Tanwar. The government which has the support of two other Independents is now two short of the majority mark in the 90-member House which has a current strength of 88.

Will not fight LS polls, son Deepender likely to contest: Bhupinder Hooda

Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday ruled out the possibility of him contesting the Lok Sabha elections and said a discussion was on within the party about fielding his son Deepender Singh Hooda from the Rohtak seat. "There is no intention that both of us will fight. I am also the Leader of the Opposition (in Haryana) and the Assembly polls are nearing. So I don't have any intention (to fight the parliamentary election)," the former Haryana chief minister told reporters in Rohtak. JJP issues whip, asks its MLAs to remain absent during confidence vote

The Jannayak Janata Party on Wednesday issued a whip, asking its 10 legislators to remain absent from the House during voting on the confidence motion to be brought by the Nayab Singh Saini government in the Haryana Assembly. The BJP named Nayab Singh Saini as Haryana's new chief minister on Tuesday, hours after the surprise resignation of Manohar Lal Khattar from the post along with his cabinet ministers. BJP MP from Hisar Brijendra Singh on Sunday said he has resigned from the party's primary membership due to "compelling political reasons". Brijendra Singh, the son of BJP leader Birender Singh, announced his resignation on X. "I have resigned from the primary membership of BJP due to compelling political reasons. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar on Thursday criticised the "method" adopted by farmers to press their demands, saying they are trying to march to Delhi like an army on the offensive. He said the farmers are moving with tractor-trolleys, earth-movers and ration for a year -- just like an army. "We have an objection to their method," Khattar said on the farmers' call for going to Delhi. "We do not have any objection to them going to Delhi. There are trains, buses and their own vehicles. But a tractor is not a mode of transport. It is an agricultural equipment." Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said his party will contest all the 90 assembly seats in Haryana on its own, but the Lok Sabha polls will be fought as part of the INDIA bloc. The Lok Sabha polls are due in April-May while the assembly elections will be held later this year a few months after the general elections. In a setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Haryana, senior leader Ashok Tanwar quit the party on Thursday, expressing displeasure with its alignment with the Congress.
