Haryana's Minister of State for Irrigation and Water Resources, Abhe Singh Yadav Friday visited several villages in the Ambala and Kurukshetra districts, where significant damage had occurred during the 2023 floods. He directed the officers to implement protective measures in crucial areas prone to flooding. According to an official statement released here, Yadav inspected various sites of the border dam of Tangri River along with the officers and also directed them to the drains cleaned and widened so the flood water can be easily managed during the monsoon season. He directed the officials concerned that flood prevention works be completed before June 30. Delhi Water minister Atishi on Friday said water production in the national capital is decreasing continuously as less water is reaching the Yamuna river here. The AAP dispensation has been alleging that Haryana has not been releasing Delhi's share of water. "Due to less water reaching Yamuna, water production in Delhi is continuously decreasing. Under normal circumstances, 1005 MGD of water is produced in Delhi, but it has been continuously decreasing since last one week," she said in a post on X in Hindi. "Due to reduced production, there is water shortage in many parts of Delhi. Everyone is requested to use water very economically," she said. BJP leaders met the Delhi police chief on Wednesday and demanded the formation of a special investigation team and registration of an FIR over the alleged theft of water from the Munak Canal and other sources by the tanker mafia. Delhi Water Minister Atishi on Tuesday slammed the Haryana government and alleged that it was deliberately and illegally halting the water supply to the capital. In a press conference here, Atishi alleged that the Haryana government was releasing less water to the city because of which Delhi is unable to meet the daily water requirement. Citing an affidavit submitted by the Haryana government in the Supreme Court, the minister said, The Haryana government has been lying that they have released adequate supply water to Delhi. Their affidavit filed in the Supreme Court presents the data on actual discharge of water which has exposed their lie. The Supreme Court on Thursday directed the Himachal Pradesh government to release 137 cusecs of surplus water available with it for Delhi, which is grappling with water crisis. A vacation bench of Justices P K Mishra and K V Viswanathan noted that the Himachal Pradesh government has no objection and is willing to release the surplus water available with it. The bench directed the Haryana government to facilitate the flow of surplus water released by Himachal Pradesh so that it reaches the national capital. The apex court made it clear that there should be no wastage of water by the Delhi government. It said the 137 cusecs of surplus water be released by Himachal Pradesh on June 7 with prior intimation to Haryana. During the hearing, the bench observed that there should be no politics on water and posted the matter for further hearing on June 10.
