White-collar hiring activity grew by 12 per cent in July compared to the same month last year as most sectors reported healthy double-digit growths, a report said on Friday. India's white-collar hiring activity grew to 2,877 job postings in July 2024, registering a 12 per cent year-on-year increase compared to 2,573 during the corresponding month last year, according to the Naukri JobSpeak Index. The Naukri JobSpeak is a monthly index representing India's job market and hiring activity based on new job listings and job-related searches by recruiters on the resume database of Naukri.com. Most sectors reported healthy double digit growths, with pharma/biotech (26 per cent), FMCG (26 per cent), real estate (23 per cent), and AI-ML (47 per cent) leading the way, said the report. Former McKinsey India head Adil Zainulbhai has been reappointed as chairman of billionaire Mukesh Ambani's listed media company Network18, while veteran journalist Rahul Joshi has been given another three-year term as managing director. Zainulbhai, currently, is an independent director on the board of Network18. He is also the chairman of the company. His second five-year term ends on July 6. With effect from July 7, he has been "appointed an additional director (non-executive, non-independent director)", Network18 said in a stock exchange filing. IT company Hexaware Technologies is planning to increase its global workforce by 6,000 to 8,000 this year, of which it will add about 4,000 staffers in India, the company said on Tuesday. The Navi Mumbai-based company has around 30,000 employees. "We plan to hire 6,000-8,000 employees globally. Of this, around 4,000 will come from India," Hexaware Executive Vice President and Global Head of Talent Supply Chain, Rajesh Balasubramanian said in a statement. White-collar hiring activity in June witnessed a 7.62 per cent decline as recruitment in most sectors remained flat, a report said on Monday. In June, white-collar hiring activity declined 7.62 per cent with 2,582 job postings compared to 2,795 a year earlier, according to Naukri JobSpeak Index. Sectors, including telecom (12 per cent), BPO/ITES (9 per cent), education and teaching (9 per cent), Global Capability Centres (7 per cent) which witnessed corrections in hiring compared to the same month of the previous year, it stated. Sectors such as insurance (28 per cent), FMCG/food industry (12 per cent), pharmaceutical (6 per cent) witnessed positive performance in hiring in June as against the same month last year, it said. The contracts of the teaching and non-teaching staff at four TISS campuses -- Mumbai, Tuljapur, Hyderabad and Guwahati -- were due to end on June 30, some faculty members on Sunday told PTI on condition of anonymity. A bulk of them worked on the TISS campuses other than Mumbai, they said. A faculty member said these contracts had been issued for the teaching and non-teaching staff from grants received from the Tata Trust. India ranks sixth globally for its employment outlook for September quarter 2024, with 30 per cent of businesses planning to increase their staff over the next three months, according to a global survey by workforce solutions company ManpowerGroup. India's Net Employment Outlook (NEO), calculated by subtracting employers planning reductions versus those planning to hire, stood at 30 per cent. It weakened from the previous quarter and the same time last year by 6 per cent, as employers are cautious in their hiring intent for the next three months. India ranks sixth globally for its employment outlook, 8 points above the global average. The survey was conducted in 42 countries. Globally, Costa Rica reported the strongest hiring expectation for July-September at 35 per cent, followed by Switzerland (34 per cent), Guatemala (32 per cent), Mexico (32 per cent) and South Africa (31 per cent).
