World Cup 2023: Virat Kohli says, awalys chased betterment not excellence

Enjoying a good run of form in the ongoing World Cup, star India batter Virat Kohli says his motto has always been to chase betterment and not excellence. Kohli is currently India's highest run-scorer in the tournament, having made 354 runs in five outings at an average of 118.00, including a century and three half-centuries. "I have always worked on how I can better myself every day, every practice session, every year and every season. So, that is what has helped me play for this long and perform," Kohli told Star Sports. "I don't think it is possible to perform consistently without having that mindset, because if performance is your goal, then one can get satisfied after a while and stop working on their game." "It has always been my motto to chase betterment and not excellence because I honestly don't know what the definition of excellence is. There is no limit to it, nor there is a set standard that when you reach here you have achieved excellence. "So, I try to work towards .

World Cup: Shami's Secret- Preparing pitches in village, cross-country runs

Earning millions for a top Indian cricketer isn't a big deal but spending those millions to take one's game to the next level isn't everyone's cup of tea. But then Mohammed Shami wouldn't have been an exceptional cricketer had he not shown time and again why he is away from the grind. As he became the first Indian cricketer to pick two five-fors in World Cups, the process of success in white ball cricket started far from the city life at his Sahaspur Alinagar village in Uttar Pradesh where he has built a full-size cricket ground with multiple pitches. He built the ground to ensure that he doesn't have to travel to the city for access to top-class facilities. "There is nothing else in Shami's life apart from cricket. When he is not playing for India, he is always thinking about upgrading his skills. When he took a break during West Indies tour earlier this year, he had already started thinking about World Cup. "He regularly practised at the ground he has built here in the village w

Indian opener Shubman Gill on Sunday became the fastest player to score 2000 runs in ODIs during his side's World Cup match against New Zealand here on Sunday. Gill reached the milestone in 38 innings, bettering the record of South African Hashim Amla who had needed 40 innings to score 2000 ODI runs. The 24-year-old Indian, who scored 53 against Bangladesh in his previous outing, was 14 runs short of the milestone coming into the match. He achieved the feat in the seventh over of the Indian run chase when he smashed Trent Boult for a boundary. Gill, however, got out for 26 off 31 balls in the 14th over with Lockie Ferguson taking his wicket. Amla had set the record on January 21, 2011 in South Africa's match against India at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth. Down with dengue, Gill had missed India's first two World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan. He returned in India's marquee clash against Pakistan and scored 16.
