Out of Indian team, Chahal bags 3/63 on County Championship debut for Kent

India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has made an impressive start to his County Championship stint with Kent, claiming three wickets against Nottinghamshire in a Division One fixture here on Tuesday. Snubbed by the national selectors for the ongoing Asia Cup and the upcoming World Cup, the 33-year-old returned 29-10-63-3. Chahal dismissed Nottinghamshire batters Matthew Montgomery, Lyndon James and Calvin Harrison to help his side bowl out their opponents for 265 as Kent took a first innings lead of 181 on the penultimate day of the four-day contest. For his first wicket, Chahal cleaned up James with a superb leg break delivery which knocked down the batter's off-stump. Earlier this season, Kent had signed up India pacer Arshdeep Singh who played five matches and took 13 wickets. Chahal has been a regular member of the Indian T20 side but has not played ODI cricket since January this year. His last assignment with the Indian team was in their five-match T20I series against the West .

Asia Cup 2023: Rohit Sharma becomes sixth Indian to amass 10,000 ODI runs

India captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday became the sixth batter from his country and 15th overall to complete 10,000 ODI runs. Rohit achieved the feat during India's Asia Cup Super 4 contest against Sri Lanka here. The India skipper hit a six off Sri Lanka's Kasun Rajitha to complete the milestone in the seventh over of the innings, a day after Virat Kohli became the quickest ever batter to cross 13,000-run landmark in a record 267 ODI innings. In fact, Rohit completed his 10,000 runs in 241 innings, which is second fastest ever after Kohli did so in 205 innings. The other Indians in the 10,000-run club are Sachin Tendulkar (18,426 runs), Virat Kohli (13,026), Sourav Ganguly (11,363), Rahul Dravid (10,889) and MS Dhoni (10,773). As the only player in the history to have hit three double centuries in 50-overs cricket, Rohit also holds the record of most runs in an innings or the highest individual score 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in November 2014. Virat Kohli terms his 47th ODI ton as classic example of playing 2nd fiddle

Virat Kohli termed his 47th ODI hundred as a classic example of playing second fiddle after not getting off to a good start in India's record 228-run win against Pakistan in an Asia Cup Super Four game here on Monday. Kohli's lightening quick running between the wickets was mainly down to this exemplary fitness but he called those singles and doubles "easy runs" after racking up an unbeaten 122 off just 94 balls. It was a typical Kohli hundred in which he accumulated the runs via 38 singles and 15 twos before changing gears towards the end of the innings. "I always prepared my game in a way I can help the team. Today was a classic example of you don't get off to a good start... KL started better, I was trying to bring him on strike and playing second fiddle," said Kohli when asked about his innings. "And yes, then after that I stepped up where I could. I take a lot of pride in fitness. Pushing for doubles are easy runs, compared to a big shot. It has paid off before, hope to contin

Asia Cup, India vs Pakistan: Virat Kohli fastest to 13,000 ODI runs

Indian superstar Virat Kohli became the fastest to complete 13000 ODI runs during the Asia Cup Super 4 contest against Pakistan here on Monday. Kohli achieved the monumental feat when he completed his 47th ODI century overall 77th propelling India to 356 for two against the arch-rivals. The batting great scored 122 not out with three sixes and nine fours in only 94 balls, bringing up the milestone ahead of legendary Sachin Tendulkar. While Tendulkar reached the 13000-run landmark in 321 innings, Kohli took 267 innings to do the same. Kohli also became only the fifth batter ever to cross the 13,000 run barrier after Tendulkar, Australia's Ricky Ponting (341 innings), Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara (363) and Sanath Jayasuriya (416).

IND vs PAK: Empty stands not good signs for cricket's greatest rivalry

The electrifying atmosphere that makes a cricket match between India and Pakistan a pulsating spectacle was absent during their Asia Cup Super 4 match here on Sunday. The spectators once again stayed away from one of the most storied cricketing rivalries despite it being a weekend, just as it was the case during the Indo-Pak league match at Pallekele. The organisers were expecting to see a good turnout as Colombo has a good representation of Indians and Pakistanis. In fact, back in 2012, during the World T20 game between the same teams, the Premadasa Stadium was jam-packed. As it has been in Mirpur, Melbourne, Adelaide, Dubai, Birmingham, London or Manchester throughout the better part of the last decade. The local administrators were understandably disappointed despite them not having any financial stake in the match, as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is the official host. "With the rain staying away, we were expecting a good turnout. But tickets are still available offline and onl

Biggest challenge was to get rid of that fear and pain says KL Rahul

Overcoming the mental barrier was the biggest challenge India wicketkeeper KL Rahul faced while rehabilitating after suffering a serious quadricep injury that laid him low for nearly four months. Rahul had suffered the debilitating injury during the IPL, which later necessitated surgery in London. The 31-year-old underwent rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get fit for the Asia Cup. But a "niggle" resulted in him missing the first two group matches of the tournament in Sri Lanka. However, he was assessed again on September 4 and cleared to join Team India in Kandy for the continental tournament. He also figures in the provisional squad for the World Cup in India. "A lot of times, it's also like you fight a big mental battle where you're always thinking at the back of your head that, okay, I might feel pain. And when you are in that mindset, you can't really start focusing on skills," said Rahul in a video posted by BCCI on Sunday. "So, the biggest

West Indies vs India 2023: ICC rates pitches for both Tests as average

The International Cricket Council has come up with an "average" rating for the pitch at Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica, which hosted the opening Test between West India and India in July. Jeff Crowe, the match referee for the Test, had initially given a "below average" rating for the track, which would have seen the venue receive a demerit point. While Cricket West Indies would have had the option to appeal Crowe's verdict in that case, it would have also had to explain to the ICC regarding the sub-standard of the pitch. The pitch was famous for being slow and its turns, as batting first, the hosts were bundled for 150, with veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin bagging a fifer, while leg-spinner Ravindra Jadeja scalped three. The visitors managed well with the bat, putting on 421 for the loss of five wickets, thanks to openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma scoring 171 and 103, respectively. However, the Men in Blue ran havoc with the ball again in the second innings, with

CWC 2023: SKY needs minor mindset shift to crack ODI code - AB de Villiers

Former South African captain AB de Villiers feels that India's No. 1 T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav needs a slight tweak in his mindset in order to replicate his success in the 50-over format. The world No. 1 in shortest format, who has managed to hold onto his spot in India's squad for the upcoming World Cup, averages a poor 24.33 in ODIs, with only two half-centuries in 24 innings with a strike-rate of 101.38. Suryakumar himself has referred to numbers as "really bad". Suryakumar, who has modelled his batting in De Villiers 360-degree hitting style, has found a fan in the South African. "You guys know I'm a big fan (of Surya). He plays in a similar manner to how I used to play, but in ODIs, he hasn't cracked it yet," the South African said on his YouTube channel 'AB de Villiers 360'. "It is a tiny little mind switch that he's got to make, and he's got all the ability and capabilities that he needs to do that," he added. "I am very relieved to see SKY in the World Cup squad, I'm ve

Recent Sri Lankan experience gives Pakistan an edge over India: Babar

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam on Saturday said the recent experience of playing in Sri Lankan conditions will give his side an edge over India in Sunday's Asia Cup Super 4 clash. Several Pakistan players have been playing in Sri Lanka since the Test series in July, followed by the Lanka Premier League and the bilateral ODIs against Afghanistan. Given the continuous cricket we are playing both in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, you can say that we hold an edge (over India)," said Babar in the pre-match press conference. We have been playing here in Sri Lanka for the past two months or so. We have played Tests, we played a series against Afghanistan and then the LPL... So it can be said that we have an advantage. Babar's side had to shuttle between Sri Lanka and Pakistan because of the tournament scheduling, but the right-handed batter did not read too much into it. We always knew the schedule and how much we have to travel. So, it's become important how we look after our players. We have pla

Asia Cup 2023, IND vs PAK preview: India seek answer to Rahul-Kishan riddle

The Indian team management's predicament to choose between KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan will be the dominating theme amid the usual edgy emotional quotient, when they face arch-rivals Pakistan in the most-awaited Super 4 match of the Asia Cup here on Sunday. Alongside focusing on the team goals, the Indian management will want to assemble the best possible 11 in the park against Pakistan, whom the Rohit Sharma-led outfit is facing for the second time in the event. But for that, they need to find answers for the aforementioned puzzle, and hope that rains will stay away despite adding a controversial reserve day to the match on Monday. The return of Rahul to the squad has widened the pool of players to select from, but that has also given them a happy headache. Kishan has impressed everyone in the last month or so, smashing four fifties in as many matches three against the West Indies and one against Pakistan in the Asia Cup Group A match at Pallekele last week. During the process, Ki
