ECB announces new Pataudi Medal for IND-ENG Test series' winning captain

The Pataudi name will remain a part of the India-England cricket rivalry with the winning captain of the upcoming five-Test series set to be presented with a medal named after the royal family that has a rich connect with the game in both countries. The decision to rename the Pataudi Trophy to Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy was taken by the England and Wales Cricket Board. A formal announcement was due on the sidelines of the WTC final at Lord's last week but it was put off in light of the horrific Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. Renaming the trophy drew criticism from the likes of former India captain Sunil Gavaskar. However, it has been learned that Tendulkar himself reached out to the ECB and expressed that the Pataudi name should remain a part of India-England cricket. ICC chairman Jay Shah also had a role to play. "When this happened Sachin reached out to ECB and conveyed that Pataudi name should remain a part of the India-England rivalry. Going to put best foot forward to make IND happy again: Pant on air tragedy

India vice-captain Rishabh Pant on Wednesday said the players will keep the tragic Ahmedabad air crash in their mind, promising to make the country happy again by producing a stellar performance in the upcoming Test series against England. A London-bound Air India flight crashed moments after its takeoff, killing 241 passengers and crew members aboard last week in one of the most gruesome tragedies in the country's aviation history. "What happened in the aircraft (crash), I think the whole India was disheartened but at the same time the only thing from our sidewe are going to be sticking with them, how we can make India happy again, Pant said in a press conference here on Wednesday. The wicket-keeper batter said the team will put its best foot forward in the five-match series, beginning here from Friday. "Obviously, the emotion is going to be high because of what happened in the crash but at the same time we are going to put our best foot forward for the country, how we can make t

Rishabh Pant reveals India batting order ahead of ENG vs IND 1st Test

India vice-captain Rishabh Pant on Wednesday confirmed that Shubman Gill will bat at No. 4 in the Test series against England, while he will follow the skipper at the No. 5 slot. The retirement of Virat Kohli had made it mandatory for India to find a new batter at No. 4, and Gill is now going to bat at the pivotal position. "I think there is still discussion going on about who is going to play 3. But 4, 5 are definitely fixed. I think Shubman is going to bat at 4 and I am going to stick to No. 5 as of now, and rest we are going to keep on discussing that," he said. Pant also said he maintains a wonderful relationship with Gill on and off the field. "I think me and Shubman have a really good camaraderie off the field. If you're good friends off the field, it eventually comes on the field as well. That is something I've always believed," he noted. "Me and him, we gel really well together. We keep on having conversations and the kind of comfort zone we have with each other, I think t

Virat and Sharma are massive losses, but India have depth: Brydon Carse

England pacer Brydon Carse is expecting the transitioning Indian team to put up a strong fight in the five-match Test series despite the recent retirement of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, thanks to their "huge depth". Kohli and Rohit announced their retirement from Test cricket last month, after which, the BCCI appointed Shubman Gill as the new skipper keeping the future in mind. "Look, obviously, you know, Virat and Sharma are massive losses for their batting line-up. They've been experienced players over a number of years and, you know, world-class batters. "But the depth that Indian cricket have and the quality and players coming through, you know, they will, without a doubt, put up a very strong 11 and we're ready for whatever challenge that brings," Carse said here on Wednesday. The series begins here from Friday. Carse, the strapping fast bowler with a quick arm action, said their bowling attack will look to take advantage of a bit of inexperience in the Indian line-up depen

In England you got to play a little side-on: Pant reveals shift in stance

India vice-captain Rishabh Pant on Wednesday said that he has effected a slight change to his stance from open in white ball formats to more side on in Test cricket to meet the demands of the swing-friendly England conditions. Pant, who is going to bat at No. 5 in the five-Test series beginning on Friday, will have to play a larger role for India with the bat, particularly in the absence of retired stars such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. "I think mostly it's (changes) mental, a little bit of technical too. It is like in one-day and T20s you have to open up your stance because of the kind of shots you want to play, Pant said in a press conference here. Pant has a good record as a batter in England, making 556 runs from 9 Tests at an average of 32.70 with two hundreds and as many fifties. "At the same time coming to England you got to play a little side-on and that really helps. That's the basic technical thing which I have shifted, other than that it's just the mindset thing,"
