India Women win first T20I by 49 runs to extend unbeaten run vs West Indies

India Women extended their unbeaten run against the West Indies to nine consecutive T20I victories with a dominating 49-run win in the series opener here on Sunday. After Jemimah Rodrigues (73) and Smriti Mandhana (54) powered India to their highest-ever total of 195 for four against the Caribbean side and their third highest overall in the format, the West Indies responded with 146 for seven. At the top, young Qiana Joseph dazzled with a 33-ball 49, while veteran Deandra Dottin (52) recorded her first fifty since making a comeback to T20Is earlier this year, but their efforts were not enough. West Indies' hopes were dealt a body blow in the second over when substitute fielder Minnu Mani produced a superb athletic catch to see the back of West Indies' skipper Hayley Matthews (1) off Titas Sadhu (3/37). Joseph cracked five fours and three sixes to keep the scoreboard ticking but West Indies could not produce big partnerships in the middle. Joseph and Shemaine Campbelle (13) put on

IND vs AUS: Steve Smith acknowledges Akash Deep's impressive skills

India pacer Akash Deep may not have entered the wickets column on the second day of third Test here but his ability to make the ball talk earned him high praise from Australian batting mainstay Steve Smith. Smith scored his 33rd Test hundred on Sunday and added 241 runs for the fourth wicket with with Travis Head (152) to put Australia in a strong position, having seen off testing spells from the peerless Jasprit Bumrah (5/72) as well as struggles against Akash Deep. "I thought Akash bowled really nicely, particularly that first spell. He was getting the ball to move with pretty significant movement. He bowled a really good length. He's a nice bowler. It was the first time I've actually faced him. He has got some skill there for sure," Smith said at the day-end press conference at Gabba. At stumps, Australia were well-placed at 405 for seven with Alex Carey going strong on a 47-ball 45. "When that second new ball rolled around, Jasprit came in and did what we know Jasprit can do. I

IND vs AUS: Jasprit Bumrah is a Blend of Legendary Fast Bowlers - Chappell

Jasprit Bumrah embodies the qualities of pace legends such as Dennis Lillee, Andy Roberts and Richard Hadlee but at the same time is forging his own legacy, one that is set to inspire future generations of pacemen, feels former India coach Greg Chappell. He also said that Bumrah is the only player standing between Australia and the Border Gavaskar Trophy. "What sets Bumrah apart is his combination of skills: (Malcolm) Marshall's adaptability, Lillee's aggression, Richard Hadlee's control, Roberts' strategy, Wasim (Akram) and Waqar's (Younis) reverse swing, (Glenn) McGrath's precision, (Dale) Steyn's explosiveness, and (Kagiso) Rabada's modern versatility." "As Nasser Hussain aptly observed, He's the complete bowler. As he has had back surgery already, it is not certain he will have a long career, but if he does, his name will be mentioned in the same breath as the champions above," Chappell wrote in the 'Sydney Morning Herald'. An all-format bowler, Bumrah has reinforced his statu

IND vs AUS: Big 1st innings score crucial for Team India - Shubman Gill

India batter Shubman Gill says the need to put up a big first innings total has been the talking point among his team's batters ahead of the third Test against Australia and each one of them has devised a plan to make it happen at the Gabba. Gill didn't play the first Test due to a finger injury but looked good in his brief innings of 31 and 28 during the Pink Ball Test at Adelaide which India lost by 10 wickets. "As a batting group, we are looking to post a big total first up. That's been the key discussion and every batter has his own game plan," Gill said in the pre-match press conference. India have had at least six scores of 150 or less in recent times and Gill admitted that the piece of stat isn't lost upon the batting group. He said it is now a three-match series for his side. "Adelaide Test, we didn't do well but the series is still 1-1. We will treat it as a three-match Test series and if we win this one, we will have advantage going into Melbourne and Sydney," Gill ...

IND vs AUS- Hazlewood replaces Boland in Australia XI for 3rd Test: Cummins

Australian captain Pat Cummins on Friday announced that pacer Josh Hazlewood will replace Scott Boland in his playing XI for the third Test against India after having recovered from a side strain. The injury had forced Hazlewood to sit out of the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide last week. Cummins exuded confidence that Hazlewood would pull through the match without any "hiccups". "He had a really good bowl yesterday, he had another bowl in Adelaide a couple of days previously. Him and the medical team are really confident," he said on the eve of the game at the Gabba. Cummins said he had to take the ball away from Hazlewood at Perth to prevent his injury getting worse. "We've seen it a few times where Josh has pushed through to get through a Test match and a little bit of soreness turns into a month or two of injury. "So, we made the call then that it probably wasn't worth the risk of keeping him bowling. I think he bowled an extra two overs leading into tea break and he said it felt o
