3 terrorists believed killed in operations along LoC in Kupwara: Army

Three terrorists are believed to have been killed in two separate anti-infiltration operations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district, the army said on Thursday. Operations in the Machhal and Tangdhar areas were launched on Wednesday following intelligence inputs, it said. In a post on X, the army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said, "Based on intelligence inputs with respect to likely infiltration bids, a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police on the intervening night of August 28 and 29 in the general area Machhal, Kupwara." "Suspicious movement was observed in bad weather and was engaged with effective firing by troops; two terrorists are likely to have been neutralised," it said. Army chief visits Manipur, reviews security situation along int'l border

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the security situation along the international border in Manipur, an army statement said. Gen Dwivedi is on a two-day visit to Manipur. Ex-Army Chief Gen Sundararajan Padmanabhan dies in Chennai on Monday

Former Chief of Army Staff General Sundararajan Padmanabhan, affectionately known as Paddy in army circles, passed away in Chennai due to old age, a source close to him said on Monday. He was 83. He served as the Chief of Army Staff from September 30, 2000 to 31 December 31, 2002. He commanded an Independent Artillery Brigade and a Mountain Brigade before attending the prestigious NDC course at Delhi. He was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) for his services as the 15 Corps Commander. 'Ceasefire doesn't grant immunity to Naga groups for taxation, bullying'

Provisions of ceasefire agreements do not grant immunity to any Naga group to carry out any form of "taxation" or threaten the general public, Lt. General Amarjeet Singh Bedi, chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Cell, said on Saturday. The Centre has signed ceasefire agreements with five Naga groups over a period of time -- NSCN (IM) in 1997, NSCN (Unification) in 2012, NSCN (Reformation) in 2015, NSCN-K (Khango) in 2019 and NSCN-K (Nikki) 2021. Only these five of the total 24 Naga underground groups have entered into a truce with the Centre.
