India rises to No 1 in ODIs, becomes top ranked team in all formats

India became the top-ranked side in all three formats of the game following their win against Australia in the series opener that elevated them to the number one spot in the ODI rankings. Following their five-wicket win over Australia on Friday, India (116 rating points) displaced arch-rivals Pakistan (115) at the top of the rankings. Already leading the Test and T20 chart, India now reign supreme across all formats. This is only the second time in men's cricketing history that a side has achieved the No.1 ranking across the formats. Prior to this, only South Africa had achieved the feat back in August 2012. Australia (111) remain third in the ODI list despite dropping two points. India and Australia play the second of the three ODIs on Sunday.

Injuries not in players' hand, determined to get national spot back: Chahar

India seamer Deepak Chahar believes injuries are not in the hands of a sportsperson but he is determined to get his place back in the national team, having fully recovered from hamstring and back issues. The 31-year-old, who last played for India in December last year, has been bogged down by multiple injury concerns in the past. Chahar picked up a hamstring injury earlier in the season and missed as many as six IPL league games for Chennai Super Kings. Chahar had missed the whole of 2022 IPL due to a back injury and also sat out of the T20 World Cup in Australia. "A player should not get disappointed by injuries. These things are not in a player's hand. My priority right now is to remain fit and be available for the team. I will give my 100 per cent for the team whenever I get a chance," Chahar told PTI Bhasha on the sidelines of a promotional event here on Tuesday. "In my case it can also be said that I was having a bad time. Last year I suffered a back injury, which is serious f

Nothing personal: Venkatesh Prasad on his social media posts against BCCI

The BCCI could have handled the scheduling and ticketing process of the World Cup in a better way, says former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad, who insisted that his outburst on social media on the issue is in no way a tirade against any individual. The ICC in consultation with hosts BCCI rescheduled as many as nine games, including the marquee India vs Pakistan match, which was originally scheduled on October 15 in Ahmedabad but had to be advanced by a day on account of Navratri celebrations. Prasad has often taken to social media platform 'X' (formerly twitter) to share his opinion and on Saturday in a series a of tweets he criticised BCCI. However one tweet that went caught attention: "It takes one corrupt, arrogant guy to take away the hardwork of an otherwise non-corrupt organisation and spoil the reputation of an entire organisation & the impact isn't just micro but at a macro level. This is true in every field, be it politics, sports, journalism, corporate." While he did not ..

India spinner Jayant Yadav on Friday signed up with Middlesex to play the last four matches of the ongoing County Championship season. Yadav will be available for selection in Middlesex's upcoming match against Essex "later this week", the club said in a statement. "The Delhi born right-arm off spinner will join Middlesex later this week and be available to play in the first of those four crucial encounters, when we take on Essex at Chelmsford next week, and then in the three-remaining red-ball games of the season," the statement read.
