Himachal Pradesh new CM and Dy CM to be sworn-in on Dec 11: Kharge

The new Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister will be sworn in on December 11, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Saturday . The veteran leader, who is on a maiden visit to his home town of Kalaburagi, after taking over as the AICC chief, urged the Karnataka Congress leaders and workers to work with unity to bring the party to power in the state, which will go to polls by April-May 2023. "We have won in Himachal Pradesh by giving a 10-point programme. We have won there with a good majority. Tomorrow there is a swearing-in ceremony there. That's the reason I had gone out to discuss with our senior leaders," Kharge said. Cong accuses govt of 'running away' from debate on China border situation

The Congress on Friday accused the government of "running away" from a debate on the border situation with China and asserted that it would continue to exert pressure for a discussion on the crucial issue in Parliament. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said at Wednesday's meeting of the leaders of opposition parties, including the Aam Aadmi Party and the TMC in Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge's room in Parliament, the issue of Line of Actual Control (LAC) was top most among those shortlisted to be raised during Winter session. Demonetisation failed to meet its objectives: Cong leader Adhir Chowdhury

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Friday criticised the government's November 2016 decision to demonetise high-value currency notes, claiming the move did not meet the desired goals as cash in circulation and fake currency have gone up. The comment made in the Lok Sabha was vehemently countered by the BJP's Nishikant Dubey who said the Reserve Bank of India took the "big step" to eliminate corruption and terror financing which were "rampant" under the Congress rule. Raising the issue during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Chowdhury said cash in circulation increased from Rs 18 lakh crore in 2016 to Rs 31 lakh crore currently. Sonia Gandhi arrives in Jaipur as Bharat Jodo Yatra enters 92nd day

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi arrived in Jaipur on Thursday morning as the party's Bharat Jodo Yatra is crossing through Rajasthan, a party spokesperson said. She is scheduled to fly to Bundi in a helicopter where her son and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is expected to take a halt later in the day after marching 24 kilometers as part of the yatra, he said. The march is set to take a break on December 9, which is also Sonia Gandhi's birthday. The yatra will resume from December 10. Rahul Gandhi began the Rajasthan leg of his Bharat Jodo Yatra from Jhalawar district on Monday. Rajasthan is the only Congress-ruled state the yatra has entered and will cover about 500 km through Jhalawar, Kota, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, Dausa and Alwar districts over 17 days before entering Haryana on December 21.

Himachal Congress expels 30 Chopal block leaders for anti-party activities

The Himachal Pradesh Congress on Wednesday expelled 30 office-bearers of its Chopal block committee for anti-party activities. The expulsions came just a day before the counting of votes for the assembly polls held last month. Acting on a resolution passed by the block committee, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president Pratibha Singh expelled the functionaries from the primary membership of the party with immediate effect. The expelled members included vice president Dhiren Singh Chauhan and Santosh Dogra.

MCD polls: Trends show AAP inching ahead of BJP; Congress far behind

The latest trends in the MCD elections show the Aam Aadmi Party just edging past the the BJP. The BJP has won 10 seats and the AAP six as the results started trickling in. The MCD has 250 wards, and the simple majority mark is 126. According to the trends available on the State Election Commission website at 10:45 am, the AAP was leading in 127 seats and the BJP in 106. The Congress was a long way behind at 11. The initial trends (at 9:30 am) put the BJP ahead of the AAP by a significant margin, but the pendulum swung in the AAP's favour soon after. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi recommenced his Bharat Jodo Yatra on its 91st day on Wednesday as he and fellow yatris marched towards the coaching capital of Kota from Darra Station Ganesh Mandir at 6 am. The yatra, which has so far covered over 2,400 kilometers since its start on September 7 from Tamil Nadu's Kanyakumari, will travel at least 13 km in its first leg of its day three in Rajasthan to reach Mandana in Kota's Laadpura. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said the party leadership will come up with a way to resolve the infighting in its Rajasthan unit while keeping the party above individuals. Gujarat elections: 61% turnout in Phase 2, down from 70% in 2017; PM votes

A moderate voter turnout of 60.94 per cent was recorded in the second and final phase of the Gujarat Assembly elections covering 93 seats across 14 districts of north and central regions on Monday, the Election Commission (EC) said, a sharp drop from 70 per cent polling registered in these constituencies in 2017. Gujarat Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) P Bharathi said barring a few incidents of violence, polling for the final phase went off peacefully and electoral fate of 833 candidates were locked in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
