Indian Navy adding new indigenous vessel every 40 days: Admiral Tripathi

One new indigenous warship or submarine is being added to the Navy every 40 days, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said on Tuesday as he outlined his force's focus on building sovereign capabilities in the maritime domain to deal with myriad security challenges. The Indian Navy has embraced 'aatmanirbharta' (self-reliance) not only as a strategic imperative, but also as an investment towards future assurance, he said, adding the force aims to operate over 200 warships and submarines by 2035. Admiral Tripathi, speaking at the India Defence Conclave hosted by Bharat Shakti, identified self-reliance, synergy and security as three major pillars for any maritime power and asserted that the Indian Navy was moving towards bolstering its overall might. Cochin Shipyard delivers first anti-submarine warfare craft to Indian Navy

Indian shipbuilding and repair company Cochin Shipyard delivered 'Mahe', the first of eight Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Crafts (ASW SWCs) that were indigenously designed and built by the company, to the Indian Navy on Thursday.According to Cochin Shipyard PRO, the acceptance form was signed between Dr. S Harikrishnan, Director (Operations), Cochin Shipyard Limited and Commander Amit Chandra Choubey, Commanding Officer (Designate), Mahe in the presence of Rear Admiral R Adhisrinivasan, CSO (Tech), Western Naval Command, Cmde Anup Menon, Warship Production Superintendent, Kochi and other senior officials of Indian Navy and CSL.The Cochin Shipyard says the warship has been designed and constructed in accordance with the Classification Rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV). INS Trikand, deployed in Gulf of Aden, carries out firefighting operation

Indian warship INS Trikand carried out a rescue mission on board a Cameroon-flagged commercial carrier off the coast of Djibouti after the vessel caught fire, in which two crew members were killed. The vessel, MT Falcon, had 26 crew members (one British and 25 Indians), and 24 of them were rescued by merchant ships in the vicinity, according to the Indian Navy. It said INS Trikand was deployed in the Gulf of Aden for maritime security operations, and it rendered critical firefighting and search and rescue assistance to the vessel. "A team of firefighting and medical specialists from INS Trikand boarded MT Falcon and recovered the mortal remains of two missing crew, braving intense heat, damaged structures and toxic fumes," the Navy posted on 'X'. "The mortal remains were subsequently handed over to the Embassy of India in Djibouti," it said.

In the increasingly complex and challenging maritime environment, where threats can emerge swiftly and "often invisibly", the ability to collect, analyse and share information in real-time will "define both deterrence and defence," Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi said on Friday. In his address, on the commissioning of the Navy's latest naval base INS Aravali, he also said the "threats of tomorrow can only be met by the collaborations we build today". Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, a gunnery and missile systems specialist, on Friday assumed charge as the new Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. Prior to assuming his new charge, Vice Admiral Vatsayan held various important operational, staff and training appointments, including at the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (HQ IDS), and Naval Headquarters (NHQ) in New Delhi. Stealth frigate INS Tamal commissioned into Indian Navy in Russia

Indian Navy's Russian-manufactured guided missile frigate INS Tamal that features an array of guns, surveillance systems and BrahMos supersonic missile was commissioned into the force in Russia's coastal city of Kaliningrad.
