Basavaraj Bommai dares Congress govt to ban RSS, Bajrang Dal in Karnataka

Senior BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai on Friday challenged the Congress government in Karnataka to impose a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Bajrang Dal. Alleging that the Congress was pursuing 'politics of vengeance', he said those who ever tried to ban RSS were sent home packing. Bommai was reacting to Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge's purported statement that the government will not hesitate to ban RSS and Bajrang Dal if they disturb peace in the state. Keeping aside all its promises, the Congress has started pursuing the politics of vengeance. It appears that politics of vengeance is more on the agenda than the development of the state, the former CM told reporters here. They are talking about banning RSS and Bajrang Dal. Whom are they telling this? Please try it. I am challenging them. They don't have powers to ban any organisation. It's the prerogative of the Centre, which does it after seeking the opinion of all the states, Bommai pointed out. On the one hand, the Cong

Ex-CM Kumaraswamy calls Cong 'hypocrite' for boycotting Parliament opening

JD(S) leader and former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Friday slammed the "hypocrite Congress" for boycotting the inauguration of the new Parliament building. The Congress and some other political parties have decided to shun the inauguration of the building on May 28 saying that it should have been done by President Droupadi Murmu and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A day after former prime minister and JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda announced his decision to attend the inauguration, his son and the JD(S) second-in-command Kumaraswamy said the call given by Congress showed its double standard to advance its "trivial politics" to turn votes in its favour by "pleasing certain communities". The JD(S) leader, however, clarified that the stand taken should not be perceived as his party's soft corner for the BJP. Addressing reporters here, Kumaraswamy said the JD(S) had a detailed discussion on the topic and finally it was agreed upon that it will attend the inauguration on

Changing laws is arrogance: Bommai calls Congress govt 'reverse gear govt'

Calling the new Siddaramaiah-led Congress administration in the state a "reverse gear government", former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said statements about changing previous BJP government's legislations "arbitrarily" after coming to power is talks of "arrogance". He was reacting to Minister Priyank Kharge's statement that the orders and legislations enforced under the previous BJP regime like school textbook revision and anti-conversion and anti-cow slaughter laws, which are against the state's interest, would be revised or withdrawn by the new Congress government, after reviewing them. "New government has come, it is known that they will do appeasement politics, they have power, let's see what they will do. 61-day annual marine fishing ban along coastal belt to begin from June 1

The 61-day annual marine fishing ban will come into effect along the coastal region from June 1 till July 31. With this, mechanised boats and traditional boats fitted with inboard or outboard engines of 10 HP and above are banned from carrying out fishing activities during the period. Fishermen, however, have been permitted to engage in coastal fishing activities using motorised engines with a capacity of up to 10 HP as well as country boats, an official release here said. The order said fishermen who violate the rule will face penalty under the Karnataka Marine Fisheries Act, 1986 and will also be disqualified from getting diesel subsidy for one year. The objective of the ban on deep-sea fishing is to regulate fishing practices and preserve marine resources during the monsoon which is the breeding period of important fish species. All fishermen are urged to comply with the order, the release said.
