The Supreme Court on Wednesday said the compensation for land acquisition cannot be assessed in a mechanical manner but must be guided by considerations of equality, equity and justice. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan said a fundamental principle in land acquisition jurisprudence was that lands with similar locational and developmental potential must be compensated equitably unless clear, objective distinctions justify otherwise. The bench said it must caution against an "excessively positivist" approach in matters of land acquisition. "It is well understood that the very exercise of assessing compensation is antithetical to rigid formalism. Compensation cannot be assessed in a mechanical or formulaic manner but must be guided by considerations of equality, equity, and justice," it said. Union Power Minister Manohar Lal on Monday said that measures such as faster land acquisition and securing diversified uranium fuel sources are crucial in scaling up domestic nuclear energy capacity. Realty firm Macrotech Developers Ltd plans to invest more than Rs 8,000 crore this fiscal to acquire land parcels in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune and Bengaluru for building housing projects as part of its expansion plan. Macrotech Developers, which sells properties under 'Lodha brand', is one of the largest real estate companies in the country. In an interview with PTI, Macrotech Developers Executive Director- Finance Sushil Kumar Modi noted that housing demand continues to be strong, especially for big brands having strong track record of executing projects. To expand business, he said the company has set a target of acquiring multiple land parcels this financial year to develop projects, which can generate a revenue of Rs 25,000 crore. Real estate company Macrotech Developers has acquired nearly 20-acre land parcel in Bengaluru for development of a housing project worth Rs 2,800 crore, as part of its expansion plan. Mumbai-based Macrotech Developers, which markets its properties under the Lodha brand, has been acquiring land through outright purchases as well as forming partnerships with landowners for the joint development. Out of the total, nearly 20 acre land was acquired in Bengaluru, the company has outright purchased some portion of land, while entering into joint development agreement with the landowner for the remaining part, sources said. In its latest operational update for the December quarter, Macrotech Developers informed that the company has added one new project in Bengaluru with GDV (gross development value) of Rs 2,800 crore. With this acquisition, the company now has five locations in Bengaluru. These are expected to provide opportunity for significant pre-sales growth in Bengaluru from next .
The Bihar cabinet on Friday approved acquisition of an additional 89.75 acres of land for expansion and development of the Darbhanga airport into an international one. The council of ministers also gave its nod for acquisition of 139 acres of land worth Rs 207 crore for the expansion of Raxaul airport in the state, an official said. These decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar here. Talking to reporters soon after the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary S Siddharth said, "The cabinet approved a proposal for the acquisition of 89.75 acres of land worth Rs 244.60 crore for the development and expansion of the existing Darbhanga airport into an international airport. The state government will pay the amount to the owners of the land... land will be transferred to the Airport Authority of India for the project". The development and expansion of the existing Darbhanga airport will improve air connectivity and benefit the people of the entire .

Technology giant Microsoft Corporation (India) has bought around 16 acres of land in Pune from Viva Highways for Rs 453 crore, according to property consultant Square Yards. In a statement on Friday, Square Yards said the recent land deal in Pune, registered in September 2024, involved the purchase of 66,450 square metres (approximately 16.4 acres) from Viva Highways Limited. "The transaction, which registered under its Indian arm Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd incurred a stamp duty of Rs 27.18 crore along with a registration fee of Rs 30,000," the consultant said, adding that the total consideration paid was Rs 453 crore.
