Fashion designer Robert Naorem's mother killed in Manipur

Fashion designer and entrepreneur Robert Naorem's mother was allegedly killed by unidentified miscreants at her residence in Imphal West District on Wednesday, police said. The matter was reported to Singjamei Police Station by her husband around 1.30 pm, they said. Preliminary investigation revealed that she died after being hit on the back of the head by a blunt object, a senior police officer said. Naorem's mother, 60, had a heated exchange of words with a few labourers, who had been hired for construction purposes, on Wednesday morning, the officer said, quoting family members. A gold necklace and a ring worn by the woman are also missing, he said. Further investigation into the case is underway.

Bail plea of temple manager arrested for embezzlement rejected

A court here Wednesday rejected the bail application of a manager of Goverdhan's renowned Daan-Ghati temple who was arrested on charges of embezzlement of temple fund. Daal Chandra Chaudhary was arrested on Tuesday evening. "Since he has been booked under sections 409 and 320 of Indian Penal Code his application was automatically rejected by ACJM Vimal Verma as section 409 IPC entails life imprisonment," senior Advocate Nand Kishor Upmanyu, the counsel for complainant, said. Section 409 deals with criminal breach of trust by a public servant, banker, merchant or an agent and entails life imprisonment. Section 320 deal with punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt. Upmanyu said he would present his arguments Thursday in the court of district judge when the bail application would be moved in the higher court. Charging Trump with crime wasn't an option: Mueller

Rajasthan: FIR can now be filed at SP office

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Wednesday said proper arrangements should be made for filing an FIR in the offices of Superintendent of Police in case it is not lodged in police stations.The instructions were given by the Chief Minister during a meeting with senior officials, the state government said in a statement."Matter should be investigated if the police station refuses to register an FIR. Delhi police arrests man wanted in Bulandshahr triple murder case

In a major breakthrough, Delhi Police Special Cell on Wednesday nabbed a criminal wanted in Bulandshahr triple murder case.The accused, identified as Salman Malik, was besieged by the police officials in the Seelampur area here.The police have recovered a pistol and bullets from his possession.According to the police, Malik was involved in Bulandshahr triple murder case and various other criminal activities in the North-East Delhi area.The body of the three children, who were cousins, was found inside a tube well in Dhooturi village in Bulandshahr on May 25, police had said.The deceased were identified as Masood Abdul, 10, Asma 11, and Aliba, 12.According to police, the prima facie revealed that the three children were shot dead and their bodies were later thrown into the tubewell. Maoist escapes from hospital in J'khand, 6 policemen suspended

Six policemen were suspended on Wednesday after a jailed Maoist, undergoing treatment at a hospital in Seraikela, escaped, a senior police officer said. Sambhu Majhi, arrested a few months ago, was being treated at Seraikela Sadar Hospital while in police custody, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Seraikela-Kharsawan district, Chandan Kumar Sen, said. He was admitted to the hospital on May 24, he said. The policemen were suspended on charges of dereliction of duty and a departmental enquiry has been set up in connection with the incident, the SP said.

Houses near lake demolished in Ghaziabad

The district administration of Ghaziabad and the municipal corporation bulldozed alleged illegally-constructed houses near Arthala lake on Wednesday, officials said. Nine fully-constructed and six semi-constructed buildings, and boundary walls of four plots were demolished in the joint operation at Balaji Vihar colony. These houses, which were constructed on government land, were illegally sold to buyers, District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari said. The demolition was carried out in compliance with a National Green Tribunal order, Maheshwari said. The demolition drive will continue on Thursday too. An FIR has been lodged against the property dealers for selling LMC (land management committee) plots of the Ghaziabad municipal corporation, the official said. The administration will try to rehabilitate the poor residents, she said. Two days ago, the women of the colony had protested against the administration by shouting slogans while standing in knee-deep water of the lake.

Allegations of rape bid, son's murder by woman found false: Police

The complaint lodged by a 28-year-old differently-abled woman against eight persons, alleging rape bid and murder of his minor son, was found to be false, said Bharatpur SP Haider Ali Zaidi. The factual report based on investigation and evidence had found the case to be false, Zaidi said in a statement. He said allegations of attempt to rape and the killing of her 8-year-old son could not be confirmed in the investigation. The SP said her son was treated for dehydration and was not strangled as claimed by the woman. The woman had lodged the complaint against eight persons, including four owners of the brick-kiln where she worked. She had taken money in advance from the brick-kiln owners, the SP said. 3 hardcore criminals detained under PSA in Reasi

Three hardcore criminals have been detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, officials said. They have been identified as Ajeet Singh alias Anju, Davinder Singh and Sunit Singh, all residents of Kanthan Batli Tehsil Arnas District Reasi, the officials said. Police prepared their dossier and submitted it to the competent authority, they said. Agreeing with the recommendations of police, the competent authority found if such persons roam freely in the area it might pose a serious threat to peace and disturb harmony among the people, they said. Police searched Wednesday for a man they say killed a woman and wounded three people, including a sheriff's deputy, during shootings that started at a veterinary clinic in East Texas. A woman was killed and two men injured around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the clinic east of Cleveland, a city of 8,000 people about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Houston, according to Liberty County sheriff's Capt. Ken DeFoor. DeFoor said the suspect, Pablo Vito, was driving away from the clinic when deputies pursued him on a local highway. 2 bike-borne miscreants snatch gold chain from woman in Delhi's Jafarabad

Two bike-borne men allegedly snatched a gold chain from a 36-year-old woman in northeast Delhi's Jafarabad area on Wednesday, police said. The incident took place at around 3.30 pm when the woman, working at a nursing home in Jafarabad, was returning home after work, they said. Two bike-borne men, one of them wearing a helmet, allegedly snatched her gold chain and sped away, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said, adding that the public chased the miscreants but they managed to flee. One of the miscreants fired a shot in the air from a pistol, the officer said, adding that however, nobody was injured. The police found an empty cartridge from the spot. Trucker held with 850-kg poppy in Ramban

A truck driver was arrested on Wednesday with 850 kg of poppy in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district as the police foiled a bid to smuggle narcotics to Punjab from the Valley, officials said. Acting on a tip-off, the police intercepted a Punjab-bound truck at a railway crossing in Banihal and recovered 850 kg poppy in 31 bags, the officials said. West Tripura: Haul of arms-ammunition seized, 3 arrested

Three people including a tribal woman was arrested by Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Wednesday while transporting arms and ammunition in the state.Abhay Kumar Singh, Assistant Commandant, RPF said, "We had this information that a woman is travelling in a train with some weapons. We formed a team and started the inspection. In general compartment, we saw a suspected woman and recovered arms and ammunition from here."Two of her accomplices were later arrested from Agartala railway station on the information of the arrested woman."It was informed by the woman that she had to deliver the arms-ammunitions to someone at Agartala. A team was formed and were deployed at the Agartala railway station. UP hooch tragedy: Toll rises to 17; main accused arrested

The toll in the Barabanki hooch tragedy in Uttar Pradesh rose to 17 Wednesday, even as the main accused who ran the licensed liquor shop was arrested, officials said.
