Rooster's crowing drives woman to police in Maharashtra

A rooster's crowing annoyed a woman to such an extent that she walked into a police station in Maharashtra's Pune district and demanded action against the bird and its owner, an official said on Sunday. In her application submitted at the Samarth police station on Friday, the woman, a resident of Somwar Peth area here, said her sleep was getting disturbed due to the cock's crowing at dawn every day in front of her house, he said. "We have received the woman's application. When we checked, we found she does not stay at the house, which belongs to her sister. She had come to her sister's house for a few days and left the place after submitting the application," he said. When the police approached the woman's sister, the latter downplayed the incident, claiming her sibling was a little "eccentric", he said. The official said no formal complaint was registered so far in the matter.

Woman jumps into canal with son, 5, after objectionable photo goes viral

A 30-year-old woman jumped into a canal with her five-year-old son apparently after her objectionable photo had gone viral on social media, police said Sunday. They said a photo of the woman with her former lover had gone viral on social media, following which she jumped into the canal in Khatoli town in Muzaffarnagar district Saturday. The minor has been rescued but the woman is still untraceable. The woman got married to another person in 2012. A search is under way to find the woman.

Murder case eyewitness shot dead on highway

A man who was an eyewitness to the killing of his brother was shot dead by two bike-born miscreants in Shamli district, a police official said Sunday. Siyanand, 45, was shot dead on the Meerut-Karnal highway when he was returning home from a sugar mill in Shamli city last evening, the official said. Police suspect old enmity to be the reason behind the killing. Siyanand was an eyewitness to the killing of his brother Ravinder, who too was shot dead a few months ago.

Teenager injured in cross LoC fire in J-K

An 18-year-old boy sustained injuries after he was hit by a bullet in cross LoC firing in Nowshera area of Rajouri on Sunday, police said.The injured teenager was identified as Muhammad Ishaq, a resident of Pokharni in Nowshera.According to an official, firing began at 12 am in the area.The injured was immediately rushed to Nowshera Hospital after being treated at a local army camp."The injured was provided medical aid in a local army camp. Later, he was shifted to civil hospital Nowshera for treatment and then referred to GMC Jammu for further treatment," an official said.

Former village head shot dead in Amethi

A former village head was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified men in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district, police said Sunday. Additional Superintendent of Police Daya Ram said Surendra Singh (50), the former head of Baraulia village was shot at around 11.30 pm Saturday. He was referred to Lucknow in a serious condition and he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, the police officer said, adding two people have been detained in connection with the incident and further investigation was underway. Baraulia village was in news during campaigning in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, as Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had accused Smriti Irani of distributing shoes to the residents in order to insult Rahul Gandhi. UN orders Russia to release Ukrainian sailors, ships

A United Nations tribunal on Saturday ordered Russia to immediately release three Ukrainian naval ships and two dozen sailors, who were captured during a confrontation off the Crimean Peninsula last November.The Germany-based International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) issued the order after a hearing, earlier this month, which was not attended by Russia, Voice of America reported.The Russian navy captured the Ukrainian sailors and their vessels in the Kerch Strait, which links the Black and Azov seas, on November 25, 2018, after opening fire on them.It was the first open military clash between Russia and Ukraine since Moscow's 2014 annexation of the Crimean Peninsula, which has been internationally condemned as an illegal action.Ukraine stresses that Russia stopped its ships in the Black Sea as they were returning to the Ukrainian port city of Odessa. A man reportedly tried to throw acid at his wife in Raja Bazaar area here. However, he missed the target and the acid injured an elderly woman."There were some issues going on between the couple. 10 wounded as gunmen open fire outside New Jersey bar

Authorities say at least two gunmen fired into a crowd outside a bar in New Jersey's capital city, wounding 10 people, two critically, but the motive for the shooting remains unknown. Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri said a vehicle pulled up to the corner outside Ramoneros Liquor and Bar in Trenton at about 12:25 am Saturday and fired more than 30 shots before fleeing. Five men and five women were taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds. Two of the male victims were listed in critical but stable condition while the others were in stable condition. Police Director Sheilah Coley said the victims were "just out for a night of fun and then it turned into a night of violence." Police were examining surveillance footage to locate the vehicle.

Mumbai: Medical student commits suicide after being harassed by senior doctors

A 23-year-old medical student at Nair Hospital committed suicide after allegedly facing harassment at the hands of three senior doctors on May 22."We have lodged a case under Atrocities Act, Anti-ragging Act and IT Act, and Section 306 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further probe is currently underway," said Deepak Kundal, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Agripada.Asked if the victim was harassed because she got admission through reservation quota, Kundal said, "We are investigating the matter as per the complaints lodged by the complainant. Telangana: 2 held in possession of 102kg marijuana

Two persons were arrested in possession of 102 kg worth marijuana by Excise and Prohibition officials in Uppal on Saturday."We have arrested P Sampath and C Yakaiah and seized 102 kg of marijuana worth Rs. 14 lakh. 3 members of 'Thak Thak' gang arrested from Delhi

The Delhi Police has arrested three suspected members of 'Thak Thak' gang for robbing people in the national capital, officials said Saturday. The trio was identified as Ravi (29), Sakil (28) and Mafooz Kurasi, all from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. Police started patrolling on Thursday on Ring Road near Dhaula Kaun. On the basis of a CCTV footage, Ravi was identified. He, along with Sakil and Kurasi, was trying to stop a man, they said. "After seeing police, they started running but were apprehended later. During frisking, five mobile phones were recovered from the. One stolen motorcycle, which was parked near footpath, was also recovered at their instance," said DCP (South West) Devendra Arya. Two held for stealing vehicles in Delhi

The Delhi Police has arrested two persons with the help of GPS tracker for allegedly stealing vehicles from the city, officials said Saturday. The accused were identified as Ravi (23), a resident of Timarpur here, and Mehtab (28), a native of Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Mehtab was previously found to be involved in 26 cases of auto-lifting. On May 14 around 7 am, a complainant reported that his car was stolen from outside his home at night in Lajpat Nagar area. After using the GPS location of the vehicle, police traced it in Sahibabad area, they said. "Police laid trap in civil clothes near the car and kept waiting for the accused persons. When one man came and opened the car, police apprehended him who was identified as Ravi," DCP (South West) Chinmoy Biswal said.
