MP honour killing: Pregnant woman shot dead by teenage brothers in Indore's Betma

A 21-year-old pregnant woman was allegedly shot dead in Betma by her teenage brothers for marrying outside her caste, the police said.The victim has been identified as Bulbul, wife of Kuldeep Rajawat.The couple, who had eloped eight months back, visited the victim's marital home for the first time on Saturday.After meeting the victim's parents, the duo returned home where Bulbul's teenage brothers shot her in the head."We got married eight months ago and her family objected to our marriage. Today suddenly her brothers Karthik and Shubham came and shot her," Kuldeep told ANI.Soon after the incident, Bulbul was rushed to Indore Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) where doctors declared her brought dead.The accused teens have surrendered at Betma police station.

Bargari scrilege case: Main accused murdered in jail, Punjab CM orders inquiry

The prime accused in the Bargari sacrilege case was killed allegedly by two inmates in a prison in Nabha on Saturday evening, police said.The incident occurred at around 5.15 pm when the accused Mahinderpal Bittu was attacked by some prison inmates.Bittu was rushed to Nabha civil hospital near Patiala, where he was declared brought dead.Police said that preliminary investigations have revealed that Bittu (49), a resident of Faridkot, was allegedly attacked by Gursewak Singh and Maninder Singh, who were lodged in the Nabha prison for a murder case.Soon after the incident, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh ordered an inquiry into the fatal assault on the Bargari sacrilege accused, warning of stringent punishment to the assailants.ADGP Prisons, Rohit Chaudhary, will head the fact-finding committee, which has been asked to submit a report within three days. Delhi: Couple stabbed to death at their Dwarka residence

A couple was stabbed to death by unknown assailants at their residence here in Mohan Garden Extension, Dwarka, on Saturday, police said."We received a PCR call stating that 51-year-old Hari Ballabh and his wife Shanti Singh, 47, have sustained multiple injuries on their neck and stomach at their residence in Mohan Garden. On reaching, the police team tried to shift the duo to a hospital but CATS ambulance declared them brought dead," a police statement read.The deceased couple is originally from Bihar. They are survived by a son and daughter, aged 22 and 27, respectively.There was no sign of forced entry or ransacking in the house, the police said."We have strong leads in the case. Entry seems to be friendly. It does not look like a murder done for robbery. Assam: Drug peddler apprehended in Nagaon, 9 kg heroin seized

In a successful operation, Nagaon Police arrested an alleged drug peddler based on a tip-off on Saturday and seized 9 kg of heroin from his possession.Under the aegis of Nagaon Police Station, a led team led by DSP HQ, seized 9 kg of suspected heroin, one bag of tobacco leaves, 21 small plastic containers with suspected heroin, Rs 53,375 in cash, one small electronic weighing machine, silver ornaments, one bike, and some other items, the police said.The accused has been identified as Bablu Hazarika (19).A case has been registered and further interrogation is underway.

Two held for supplying illegal weapons to criminals

Two persons, allegedly belonging to the Naveen Khati gang, were arrested here for supplying illegal weapons to criminals in Delhi and the national capital region, police said Saturday. Govind (26), a resident of Issapur and Darvesh (27), a resident of Narela were held after police received a tip-off that they would be coming to Dwarka. Govind told police that he got the illegal weapons from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh and supplied them to the members of his gang as well as other criminals in Delhi-NCR, police said. A total of 11 country-made pistols and 12 live cartridges were recovered from their possession, they said.

Mentally challenged boy dies after being sodomised, thrashed by three juveniles

Three juveniles were apprehended for sodomising and thrashing a mentally challenged boy who succumbed to his injuries here Saturday, police said. The victims' father informed the police that his 15-year-old son was assaulted on June 14 by the juveniles who live in their neighbourhood in Sector 5, Gurgaon Police PRO Subhash Bokan said. The victim was mentally challenged since birth, he added. "We have registered a case against the juveniles under POCSO act and apprehended them," Bokan said.

Ensure tough punishment in rape, killing of 9-month-old girl: T'gana Home Min to police

Telangana Home Minister Mohammed Mahmood Ali Saturday directed Warangal police to take all steps according to law to ensure tough punishment to the guilty in the rape and murder of a nine-month-old girl in the town. He also told the Warangal Police Commissioner to make a proposal for conducting trial in the case by a fast-track court, an official release said. The nine-month-old girl died after a man apparently gagged her after allegedly raping her Wednesday, triggering protests by locals who demanded stern punishment to the accused. The 28-year old accused, identified as Praveen of the same locality and working in a hotel, was arrested after interrogation, police said. Preliminary investigation by police showed that the accused allegedly committed rape and murder of the baby after taking her (who was in sleep) away from her mother on the night of June 18, the release said. Warangal has witnessed protests since the incident came to light on June 19.

Former Thane corporator held for firing at man

A former Shiv Sena corporator, Mangesh Wagh, was Saturday arrested in Maharashtra's Thane district for allegedly firing at a man who had given him money for some work, police said. Wagh had taken Rs 10.50 lakh from Manish Gulve to facilitate some work and was not returning the amount after he failed to get it done, a Thane Anti-Extortion Cell official said. "After Gulve asked for his money, Wagh demanded another Rs 4 lakh. They had several altercations on this. On June 20, Wagh fired at Gulve who managed to duck and get saved," AEC Inspector Vikas Ghodke said. He said a case under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of the 384 (extortion) under IPC, as well as provisions of the Arms Act, has been registered against Wagh at Naupada police station.

"TRS leaders indulging in high-handedness against BJP workers"

BJP MP from Karimnagar Bandi Sanjay Kumar Saturday alleged that the ruling TRS in Telangana indulged in high-handedness and excesses against its workers after they bagged four of the 17 seats in the Lok Sabha polls. "Especially after the parliament elections, the high handedness and lawlessness of TRS leaders are rising in places where BJP won and from where it obtained a higher vote percentage," he told reporters. Referring to the murder of a youth, said to be a BJP activist, in Mahabubnagar, he alleged that the TRS regime was moving on the path of Trinamool Congress in West Bengal and Pinarayi Vijayan government in Kerala, "harassing" BJP supporters. "Attacking BJP workers, attacking people who supported BJP, such situations (things) are happening in the state," he said. Students and youth are brought to police stations and threatened even "for small mistakes" for supporting BJP, he claimed. BJP would fight such excesses democratically, he added.

Hay stack in BJP worker's house set on fire

The hay stack of a BJP worker inside the premises of his house was set on fire in Nadia district of West Bengal by TMC workers, a charge the ruling party denied. China Mondal, whose husband Sambhu is a BJP activist, lodged a complaint with the Taherpur police station saying some Trinamool Congress workers set the hay stack afire in the wee hours of Saturday for political reasons. In her FIR, China said her son, an e-rickshaw driver, was entering their house in Maniktala village around 1 am when he found four persons who are known TMC workers fleeing from their premises. Woman, toddler son-daughter dead in tree collapse in Buldhana

A 28-year-old woman and her two children were Saturday killed after a neem tree collapsed on their tin-roofed home in Maharashtra's Buldhana district, police said. The incident happened at 7:15pm in Anand Nagar locality in Ghatpuri area of Khamgaon taluka here, an official said. Inspector Ravindra Deshmukh of Shivaji Nagar police station identified the victims as Shradha Gunvant Hiradar, her 3-year-old daughter Shruti and 2-year-old son Rishikesh. "The tree's foundation possibly got weakened due to rain and storm prevailing here. It fell on the tin-roof house inflicting grievous injuries on the woman and her two children. They were declared dead on arrival at Khamgaon sub- district hospital," he said.

UP: Woman, man beaten up over illicit affair in Jaunpur

A married woman and her alleged boyfriend were allegedly beaten up by the woman's in-laws in full public view in Sirkoni area of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh.The incident came into light after a video of the incident went viral on social media. American aid worker arrested for 'molesting' magistrate

An American aid worker was arrested for allegedly molesting a judicial magistrate at her home, police said on Saturday. "We have arrested the American national, Theodore M Moallem, on charges of molestation," Superintendent of Police (City) Steve Rynjah told PTI. Moallem and his organisation, Blind Lead Trust, have also filed a counter complaint against the magistrate for assaulting him inside the premises the family had rented out to the trust. Moallem was arrested on Friday after he went to the police station to report abuse by the magistrate. Another complaint was filed against the magistrate's mother by Blind Lead Trust's director Jitendra Dkhar. The magistrate and her mother own a five-storeyed building in the Lachumiere area of the city in which the ground floor was rented out to Blind Lead Trust and three blind persons were occupying the rented rooms. Infant dies, mother injured after being hit by ambulance

An eight-month-old boy was killed and his mother severely injured after they were hit by an ambulance outside their house in Rajasthan's Kota district on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred around 7 am in Sarowar Nagar area in Itawa town, 80 km from the district headquarters.
