A 52-year-old man running a charitable institution in Mumbai allegedly raped a Brazilian woman who came here to study as part of a youth exchange programme, police said on Wednesday. The accused, Padmakar Nandekar, has been arrested for the alleged incident that took place last month but came to light on Monday when the 19-year-old woman filed a rape complaint against him, a police official said. The woman came to India a few months back and was staying here with Nandekar, who runs a charitable organisation and is also chairman of a residents' association in Cuffe Parade area of south Mumbai, he said. According to the woman, on April 15, Nandekar invited her for dinner at a hotel, where he allegedly spiked her drink following which she felt dizzy and went to a room there with him, the official said. A Delhi court Wednesday reserved for June 7 order on a complaint seeking lodging of an FIR against Rahul Gandhi for his alleged 'Khoon ki Dalali' remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal reserved order on the complaint, filed by advocate Joginder Tuli, which has sought direction to the police to register an FIR against Gandhi for allegedly making derogatory remarks in 2016 against PM Modi, accusing him of hiding behind the blood of soldiers and cashing in on their sacrifice. Three persons have been arrested for allegedly stealing over 100 smart phones from a shop in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police said Wednesday. The accused, including two natives of Bihar, allegedly broke into the shop in Vasai area in January and decamped with 107 smart phone handsets worth around Rs 10 lakh, police spokesman Hemant Katkar said. While probing the case, the police got information that some of the stolen phones were operational at Muzaffarpur in Bihar, he said. The Palghar police team went to Bihar and nabbed two persons - Arman Attaur Rehman (20) and Navsad alias Salim Jamshed Shaikh (34) - from Muzaffarpur and Sitamarhi districts last week and recovered 25 handsets from them, he said. Based on the information provided by them, the police arrested another accused, Radheshaym alias Ajay Prasad Sahana (31), from Nallasopara area here on Monday, Katkar said. Efforts were on to recover the remaining booty, he said, adding more arrests were likely.

Eighteen people, including 13 women dancers, were arrested from a bar in Palghar district of Maharashtra for allegedly indulging in obscenity, police said on Wednesday. Acting on a complaint, sleuths of the local crime branch raided the bar located in Vasai area on Tuesday and arrested its manager, two waiters and as many customers, a police spokesman said. Besides, 13 women were also nabbed for allegedly performing obscene acts, he said. Those arrested were booked under various Indian Penal Code sections, including 294 (indulging in obscene acts and songs), and provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, he added.
The boss of Qatari television channel BeIn, Yousef Al-Obaidly, and ex-athletics chief Lamine Diack, have been under investigation since March over alleged corruption in the bidding process for this year's World Athletics Championships in Doha, sources told AFP. Investigating magistrates are considering charging Al-Obaidly with active corruption, while Diack will act as a key witness in the matter and will be charged with passive corruption. The police have arrested three persons and confiscated a vehicle in which they were transporting ganja worth Rs 25 lakh.Speaking to ANI on Monday, Superintendent of Police Lucky Chauhan said: "On suspicion, a night round officer of Kailashehar police station checked a vehicle near Kamrangabari bridge. He found ganja packets hidden in it. Three persons have been arrested and around 518 kg of ganja has been seized."Out of the three arrested, two are from Kailashehar and one from Bihar.The vehicle was coming from Sidhai Mohanpur in Tripura West district and was supposed to go to Bihar through Assam, said the official.
