Indore: Lokayukta raid govt official; finds property worth Rs 1.4 crore

Lokayukta police on Tuesday raided the residence of an assistant commercial tax officer and found unaccounted wealth worth Rs 1.4 crore.The accused, identified as, Komal Bali joined the commerce tax department in 2006 as a commercial tax inspector, said Praveen Singh Baghel, DSP, Lokayukta."So far, we have found unaccounted wealth worth Rs. 1 crore and 41 lakh, which is many times more than what she must have rightfully earned during her service tenure," said Baghel.The unaccounted wealth includes two houses, a farmhouse, gold worth Rs. 10 lakh, and automobiles, said Baghel."Apart from freezing all her bank accounts, police are also investigating other transactions and other related documents," said Baghel.A case has been registered in the incident and further probe is underway.

5 new IT courts would be set up in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Mathura, 2 western UP cities

Five new Income Tax Courts would be set up in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Mathura and two other cities of western Uttar Pradesh for the prosecution of income tax related cases.PK Gupta, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, said that around thousand prosecution cases are pending in different courts in the western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand while the number of courts dealing with these cases is very few.Speaking to ANI on the sidelines of an outreach programme organised by Income Tax department at Amity University here on Tuesday, Gupta said: "Last month I met with the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and obtained his approval for creation of 5 special courts in Western Uttar Pradesh.""In next couple of weeks, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) might notify creation of more courts in Ghaziabad, Meerut, Mathura and 2 other cities of western UP. 27-year-old gym trainer shot dead in Delhi

A 27-year-old gym trainer was Tuesday shot dead by unidentified persons in the national capital's Najafgarh area, police said. Mohit More, a resident of Bahadurgarh, was active on a social-networking app and had lakhs of followers, police said, adding that personal enmity is suspected to be the reason behind the killing. According to a senior police officer, the incident took place at 5.15 pm when More came to a photostat shop to meet his friend. Three men, of which two were wearing helmets, walked into the shop and opened fire at More, the officer said. The assailants had come on a scooter which they parked at a distance and walked to the shop. They allegedly fired around five rounds at the victim, they said. A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered and investigation has been initiated, police said. The incident took place three days after two suspected criminals were killed in a shootout between rival gangs near the Dwarka Mor metro station nearby.

Sub-inspector's murder: Family claims receiving threats, asks for police protection

The family of 58-year-old sub-inspector, who died after he was allegedly attacked by a suspected criminal in Shahdara, Tuesday sought police protection, saying they are getting threats. Raj Kumar, who was posted in the communication department of the Delhi Police, had died Sunday night after he was allegedly assaulted following a scuffle with the suspected criminal in the Vivek Vihar area. Vaishali, daughter of Kumar, alleged that her father's murder was pre-planned as three-four men were involved in the attack. "We have given in writing to police that we need protection as we are getting threats from local goons in the area," She told PTI over the phone. Police, however, said they have not received any written communication from Kumar's family for the same. CBI clean chit to Mulayam, family members in disproportionate assets case

The CBI has informed the Supreme Court that it has given a clean chit to Samajwadi Party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav and his family members in a disproportionate assets case of 2013 as sufficient evidence to support the allegations could not be brought out. The agency in an affidavit filed before the court said that no prima facie there was no evidence of commission of cognisable offence against Yadav, his sons Akhilesh and Prateek and daughter-in-law Dimple. On March 25, the Supreme Court had directed the CBI to apprise it of the status of probe in the alleged disproportionate assets case. "The CBI has filed a reply on the status of the case on May 10 in the Supreme Court in a petition filed in the court this year relating to the matter," CBI spokesperson Nitin Wakankar said. Man arrested for stealing vehicles

A 27-year-old man, who was out on bail, was arrested for allegedly stealing vehicles from Najafgarh area here, police said Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Ashish, a resident of Najafgarh. He was involved in several cases of vehicle theft, robbery and murder, they said. "The man was arrested from his house in Najafgarh after police received a tip-off on Sunday," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said. He was arrested earlier for being involved in two murder cases registered in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district and was lodged in a jail since April 2014, the DCP said. After being released on bail from Kannauj jail in January 2019, he regrouped with his old associates and took to robbery and motor vehicle thefts. Model gets bail in fake currency case

Over a month after she was arrested for allegedly depositing fake Indian currency in a bank, a 28-year-old model was granted bail by a court here Tuesday. The woman had allegedly deposited 75 notes of Rs 2,000 in a cash deposit machine of a bank in suburban Bandra, of which 42 notes were found to be fake. The bank filed a complaint and she was arrested on April 19. Seeking bail, her lawyer pleaded that she was not aware that the notes were fake, as she had borrowed the money as a loan from Rahul Barod, co-accused in the case. The investigating officer told the court that the woman had apparently got the money from Barod for certain favours. Man kills father over dispute on daily expenses in Thane

A resident of Dombivali in Maharashtra's Thane district was Tuesday arrested for allegedly killing his 70-year-old father over a domestic dispute, police said. Accused Arvind Harke (40) was upset that his father Subhashchandra did not give him money for expenses but used to financially support relatives, an official said. "On Monday night, Harke stabbed his father in the head, neck and ear with a pair of scissors. He then bludgeoned the senior citizen with a hammer. Subhashchandra was declared dead on arrival by hospital authorities," he said. Senior Inspector RN Mungekar of Vishnu Nagar police station said Harke has been charged with murder.

DRI-Customs team seizes 835 kgs of ganja from truck near Pune

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Customs officials have seized over 835 kilogrammes of ganja, worth about Rs 1.25 crore, from a truck near Ambegaon in Pune and arrested five people, an official said Tuesday. The operation took place on Sunday and the truck was on its way from Andhra Pradesh to Pune to make the drug drop, he added. "Acting on a tip-off, DRI and Customs officials intercepted the truck on Manchar Nirgudsar Road in Pimpalgaon Khadki in Ambegaon tehsil. A check found a false bottom in the vehicle's carriage, containing 149 packets of ganja weighing 835.48 kilogrammes worth Rs 1.25 crore," a DRI official said, adding that a SUV moving along with the truck was also seized. He identified the five arrested persons as Amit Gyaneshwar Bidkar, Deepak, Gundu Rao Patil, Ilaiyabkas Babamiyan Munde and Naseer Gafoor Pathan. Congress leader held for BJP worker's killing on polling day

A Congress leader has been arrested in connection with the killing of a BJP worker on the last day of polling for Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh. Nemichand Tanvar (60) was killed at Palia village, about 20 km from here, Sunday. Arun Sharma, a local Congress leader, was arrested in the case Monday night, said district Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ruchi Vardhan Misra. Efforts were on to arrest Sharma's sons Pankaj and Navin who were absconding, she said. Investigation suggested that it was Pankaj who allegedly shot Tanvar around 5.30 pm Sunday, the SSP said. The BJP has alleged that Tanvar was killed after he told Sharma that he voted for the saffron party. Misra said the dispute arose over casting of vote. "But we cannot conclude that the murder was its fallout because the two factions had an old dispute as well," she said, adding that the case was being investigated from all angles.

A 10-year old girl in Pakistan was murdered after being allegedly raped, triggering massive protests by her family members and locals on Tuesday. The victim's family protested against the brutal murder of the girl by keeping her body at Taramri Chowk in Islamabad on Tuesday. A former Congress MLA and Rajura municipal council president were arrested Tuesday after a complaint of molestation was lodged against them by a student of a nursing college in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra, police said. The Congress leader is identified as former MLA Subhash Dhote and the municipal council president as Arun Dhote. Subhash is president of Rajura-based Kalyan Nursing Educational Institution in which the woman was a student while Arun is its secretary, a police officer said. Subhash and Arun are cousins. No accused in NDPS cases should get bail: DIG to SSPs

District police chiefs in the state have been directed to ensure accused in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) cases do not get bail. The SSPs were asked to concentrate on source, carrier and destination in narcotics cases, officials said. In a crime review meeting of Jammu, Samba and Kathua districts with concerned Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) on Tuesday evening here, Deputy Inspector General, Jammu-Kathua range, Sujit Kumar said, "No accused should get bail in NDPS cases." Disposal of pending cases was also discussed at the meeting. Guidelines for prompt disposal of cases were issued to the district SSPs, officials added. Stress was also laid on disposal of inquest proceedings especially the pending ones. SFC divisional manager caught taking bribe in J-K's Udhampur

A divisional manager in State Forest Corporation (SFC) was caught by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Tuesday while taking bribe from a contractor in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said. Puran Chand Bhagat was caught accepting Rs 30,000 in the presence of independent witnesses in his office-cum-residence complex at Udhampur for releasing contractors' pending payment, an ACB spokesperson said. A case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against Bhagat, the spokesman said. The contractor, Romesh Chander, had lodged a complaint with the ACB alleging that the officer demanded Rs 48,000 as bribe for the release of his payment, the spokesperson said. The contractor had further alleged that Bhagat asked him to pay Rs 30,000 as advance and rest Rs 18,000 after release of the payment for his work, the spokesperson said.
