The Army has conducted a Court of Inquiry (CoI) against a senior Lt General for alleged corruption, breach of rules and misappropriation of government funds, official sources said. The Lt. Gen is likely to face punitive action based on the findings of the CoI. A 60-year-old man died after being attacked by a cow on Friday night in Vinoba Bhave Nagar in Vinzol locality here, police said. A Vatva MIDC police station official said deceased Gopinath Tiwari and his family were having sugarcane juice from a stall at around 9:30pm when the cow charged at him. "He sustained severe injuries in the attack that lasted for about 15 minutes. People around tried to save him but the cow wouldn't relent. Tiwari was declared dead on arrival at LG Hospital here. We have registered an accidental death case," the official said.

A 26-year-old man in the UK has been charged with murder in connection with the killing of an Indian-origin man who was stabbed to death in a supermarket parking area. Nadeem Uddin Hameed Mohammed, 24, was formally identified by Thames Valley Police as the victim of the attack in Slough, near London, on Friday, when Aqib Pervaiz was produced before Reading Crown Court charged with his murder. A court in the district sentenced a man to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment in a case of culpable homicide in connection with the death of his wife. Sessions Judge Rahul R Bhosale held Gulab Deoram Chavan, 28, guilty under the Indian Penal Code section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and awarded the sentence. A fine of Rs 5,000 was also imposed on him. According to the prosecution, Chavan's wife Anita (22) would frequently quarrel with him as he did not allowed her to visit her parents' house. During one such argument in November 2015, the woman poured kerosene on herself. In a fit of rage, her husband threw a burning matchstick at her, due to which she suffered serious burn injuries and died during treatment a couple of days later, the prosecution said. In her dying declaration, the woman named her husband as the accused.
A BSF jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle Saturday at Haldarpara area of West Bengal's Nadia district, near the India-Bangladesh border, a police officer said. NC Roy, a resident of Assam and personnel in 54 battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), was found lying on the ground by fellow jawans near Gede border checkpoint with a bullet injury on his stomach, he said. Roy was immediately taken to Krishnaganj Rural Hospital, where the doctors declared him "brought dead", the officer said, adding that the body has been sent to a hospital in Shaktinagar area of the district for autopsy. According to a police sources, the 53-year-old jawan was suffering from mental depression.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Saturday claimed to have made the country's highest seizure of over 1,800-kg pseudoephedrine kept outside a factory in Greater Noida and arrested three foreigners. The estimated value of the seized chemical, along with about 2 kg of party drugs Cocaine, is around Rs 25 crore, sources in the NCB said. The agency stumbled upon the record haul of the narcotics chemical and stimulant after the grilling of a South African woman who was arrested by them on May 9 from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport for allegedly carrying 24.7 kg of pseudoephedrine. The woman was first intercepted by the Central Industrial Security Force. "Pseudoephedrine is a precursor used for the manufacture of Methamphetamine, a drug widely used in Europe and South East Asia. "This is the biggest ever seizure of pseudoephedrine in India kept outside factory premises. As per our records, this is the highest ever seizure by any agency," a senior NCB officer said. A woman and her son allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at their residence in Virar township in the district, police said on Saturday. Their bodies were recovered from their rented accommodation in Naringi locality on Satuday morning, police said. The victims were identified as Vinay Chowgule (26) and his mother Saraswati (42). "They ended their lives by consuming poison. Their neighbours found the duo lying motionless on the floor and alerted their relatives and police," an official said. Vinay used to play for a local cricket team and had won many prizes. He had lost his father a few years ago, police said. "They might have taken the extreme step due to their financial burdens," the official added. Their bodies were sent for post-mortem.
A six-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in the city, police said on Saturday. The incident took place on Friday evening in Shiv Sangam Nagar, police said. "Six stray dogs attacked the boy, Sanju Jatav, when he was playing on a ground near his house. His mother, who was nearby, raised an alarm and tried to shoo away the dogs. But the canines attacked her as well," Awadhpuri police inspector M L Bhati said. Sanju, who bled profusely as a result of the attack, was rushed to a hospital. However, he died on the way, he said. Local residents blamed the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) for the stray dog menace. Bhati said they have contacted the BMC officials, who have launched a drive against stray dogs on a large scale.
