Alwar gangrape: BJP leader, supporters court arrest demanding CBI inquiry

BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Kirodi Lal Meena Saturday courted arrest along with his over 100 supporters, demanding a CBI inquiry into the Alwar gangrape case. Addressing a rally, he alleged that police deliberately delayed the registration of an FIR in the case, citing the Lok Sabha elections, for which proper investigation should be held. Meena also sought resignation from Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. "Meena and others courted arrest. They were taken from the rally site in three buses and released later," Circle Officer (City South) Deepak Kumar said. A Dalit woman was gangraped by five men in front of her husband on the Alwar-Thanagazi highway on April 26. They had also filmed the whole incident and circulated the video on social media. The FIR in the case was registered on May 2. Police have arrested all six accused, including the one who filmed the incident.

Nodal officer to be appointed in every district for effective action in crimes against women:Govt

A new post of nodal officer will be created in every district of Rajasthan for supervising investigation in the cases of crime against women and children in the state. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday night, a government release said. The officer, Deputy SP - women safety, will supervise the cases of 'mahila thanas' (women police stations) in the district and also coordinate with the departments of social justice and empowerment, and women and child development in the respective district for assisting and guiding victims in cases of atrocities against women, it said The chief minister also gave directions that SPs in districts will have to ensure that FIR is lodged at the district level if a local SHO refuses to register the case, the release said. Six drug peddlers arrested, 1 detained under PSA in J-K

Six suspected narcotic smugglers were arrested and a notorious drug peddler was detained in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district, police said Saturday. Tariq Ahmad alias "Madam", a resident of Lassana village of Surankot, was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Poonch district on Friday and sent to district jail in Rajouri, a police official said. The PSA is an administrative detention law that allows detention without charge or trial for up to two years in some cases. "Ahmad is a notorious drug peddler and was also involved in fake currency racket," the official said. He said two drug peddlers -- Nazir Ahmad of Udhampur and Nawaz Sharief of Jammu -- were arrested along with 45 intoxicant injections from Sidhra locality of Jammu Saturday. Inundated with frivolous complaints in recent times, the BCCI's Ombudsman and Ethics Officer D K Jain has devised a mechanism to ensure that only genuine complaints are entertained. The newly formulated guidelines, uploaded by the BCCI on its website, come in the wake of a rise in number of mail from various sources accusing cricketers of conflict of interest, including the ones against the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and V V S Laxman. Two convicted of raping minor girl in Jharkhand

A court in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district has convicted two men of raping a 15-year-old girl two years ago after taking her to Hyderabad. Ramgarh Additional District Judge (I) Babita Prasad convicted Suraj Barla (23) and Rajesh Munda (25) under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on Friday, Additional Public Prosecutor S K Shukla said. He said the court would pronounce the quantum of punishment on Monday, May 13. According to the FIR lodged at the Mandu police station of the district on August 4, 2017, the prime accused, Barla, and his relative Munda, took the minor to Hyderabad, on the pretext of taking her on a tour, in August that year. The minor, who hails from the same village under the Mandu block, was raped and cheated of Rs 65,000, Shukla said. The duo was arrested in Ranchi when they were returning from Hyderabad.

Social Justice minister seeks CBI probe into custodial death of Dalit youth

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawar Chand Gehlot has demanded a CBI probe into the death of a Dalit man in police custody in Madhya Pradesh last month. The man had allegedly died due to torture by police after being arrested for theft in Indore. In a letter to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath, the Union Minister stated that it had come to his notice that 22-year-old Sanju Tipaniya was brutally tortured by the Gandhi Nagar police, despite claiming innocence. "The police have crossed all limits of brutality. They plucked out his nails with pliers, hit his legs with a hammer and gave him electric shocks following which he fainted," the minister said. "They poured water on him to bring him to his senses and when he gained consciousness, he was beaten up again... He was not even given water to drink. Gorakhpur hospital case: SC refuses to interfere in suspension of Dr Kafeel Khan

The Supreme Court has declined to interfere with the suspension order of doctor Kafeel Ahmad Khan, one of the accused in the death of infants at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur in 2017.A Bench of Justice Sanjay Krishan Kaul and Justice Indira Banerjee dismissed the appeal filed by suspended paediatrician Khan against the Allahabad High Court's March 7 order.In its order passed on Friday, the top court while dismissing Khan's plea observed that he would continue to be paid suspension allowance as per law.It also made it clear that dismissal of this petition "will not be amount to any imprimatur of the findings recorded by the High Court".The Allahabad High Court in its March 7 order had observed that Khan's non-cooperation was the reason for delay in the disciplinary proceedings and while disposing of his petition against suspension order had directed the authorities to complete the proceedings within three months.On August 22, 2017, Khan was suspended from service following the ..

Woman jumps into canal with minor daughter in Muzaffarnagar

A woman jumped into the Ganga canal with her five-year-old daughter while her husband attempted suicide by taking poison following a family dispute at Kalanpur village here, police said Saturday. The body of the girl was recovered from the canal and efforts were on to find her mother Kalawati's body, said Circle Officer Sidharth Tomar. He said Kalawati's husband Ram Kumar too attempted suicide after receiving information about the incident. Ram Kumar was rushed to a hospital in a serious condition. Three girls rescued from prostitution racket, four men held

The Goa crime branch busted a prostitution racket at Dona Paula near here and rescued three girls early on Saturday, a police officer said. Four men were arrested in this connection, he said. The accused were identified as Dipendra Singh, Sarfaraj Khan, Ismael Hnaberkabaddi and Sajid Sheikh, the officer said. "The accused had come to Dona Paula with the three girls, whom they planned to send to the customers. However, the minors were rescued around 1.30 am and the four men were arrested," he said. They were booked under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. "The rescued girls were sent to a state-run protection home at Merces near Panaji," the officer said.

Rajasthan: Dalit woman raped in Kathoomar hospital

A Dalit woman was allegedly raped by two men at a hospital in Kathoomar.The alleged incident took place on May 7."A woman registered a case with us saying she was raped on 7 May by a man named Ram Nivas at the Kathoomar hospital, while another man (Giriraj Prasad) aided him," Udhay Bhan, SI, Kathoomar said on Friday.According to Udhay Bhan, the woman had come to the hospital for delivery of her pregnant daughter-in-law on May 5. On May 7, a compounder named Giriraj Prasad took her to the delivery room at 8 pm on the pretext of signing some documents. Ramalingam Murder Case: NIA arrests Mohammad Faruk from Tamil Nadu's Trichy

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Mohammed Faruk (48), a resident of Trichy, Tamil Nadu in connection with the murder of Ramalingam."Mohammed Faruk was summoned and interviewed and simultaneously search was also conducted at his residence on May 9 during which some digital evidence were seized. His questioning and materials seized during the search have revealed the extent of involvement of Mohammad Faruk in the instant case," NIA said in a statement on Friday.He will be produced before Special NIA Court, Chennai on Saturday.NIA had searched 20 locations including the houses of arrested accused on May 2 and several incriminating materials were seized.
