Software engineer Sumit Kumar, who allegedly killed his wife and three children here last week, has been arrested from Karnataka, police said Wednesday. Ghaziabad Police arrested Kumar with the help of Udipi Police on Tuesday night. Three teams were deputed to nab him. On the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, Kumar allegedly served sedative-laced drinks to his wife Anshu Bala (32), son Prathimesh (5), daughter Akriti and son Arav (twins aged 4 years) and then slit their throats, police had said. The bodies were found 22 hours after the incident on Sunday, following a video posted by Kumar on his family WhatsApp group in which he admitted to the killings. Kumar had said in the video that he will commit suicide and had purchased poison. After being alerted, police recovered the bodies from Kumar's flat and sent them for post-mortem. Japan's government has apologised to tens of thousands of victims forcibly sterilised under a now-defunct Eugenics Protection Law and promised to pay compensation. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga says he is offering "sincere remorse and heartfelt apology" to the victims. Japan's parliament enacted legislation earlier Wednesday to provide redress measures, including 3.2 million yen (USD 28,600) compensation for each victim. An estimated 25,000 people were given unconsented sterilisation while the 1948 Eugenics Protection Law was in place until 1996. The law allowed doctors to sterilise people with disabilities. The apology and the redress law follow a series of lawsuits by victims who came forward recently.

A 22-year-old man died on Tuesday night after he was brought to a police station for questioning in an alleged theft case in Gandhi Nagar area here, said police.Talking to ANI, Superintendent of Police (SP) Indore, Suraj Verma said, "The name of the deceased is Sanjiv. He was brought to Gandhi Nagar police station after which he fell ill during questioning in an alleged theft case.""A doctor was called and he detected that Sanjiv was having low blood pressure. An Indian national has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment on charges of smuggling foreign nationals into the United States, a overwhelming majority of whom were from India, the Department of Justice has said. The human smuggling carried out by Yadvinder Singh Sandhu, 61, had resulted in at least one death and endangered the lives of many, an official statement said. Singh had pleaded guilty early this year. The Delhi Police has arrested two persons for allegedly running a syndicate of supplying fake visas to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), police said Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Javed Ali, a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district, and Manoj Kumar Sharma from Delhi, they said. Police received 17 complaints filed by immigration officials wherein it was alleged that on April 8, 2017, total 17 passengers were deported from Dubai Airport (UAE) as all were found using fake UAE employment visas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Sanjay Bhatia said.
