In a horror of an incident a teenager in Bihar's Bhagalpur district was attacked with acid after she resisted an attempt of gang rape by a group of four youths, police said on Saturday.
Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi Saturday said there was a "common thread" in the communications sent to him by four news portals that carried stories on allegation of sexual harassment against him, and suggested a "bigger force" could be behind the controversy to "deactivate" the office of the CJI. The CJI, who was part of a hurriedly convened special bench, also comprising Justices Arun Mishra and Sanjiv Khanna, said the four news portals -- Scroll, The leaflet, Caravan and the Wire -- have carried the stories on the allegations. "There is a common thread in the communications, and the questions I was asked to answer are common," he said, adding, "they (news portals) gave less than five hours notice to the CJI to respond". "This is unbelievable. I do not think I should stoop too low even to deny these allegations. But that comes after 20 years of selfless service as a judge," he said. As many as 58 out of total 370 candidates in the fray from all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat have various criminal cases registered against them, as per Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysis. The Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) court on Saturday dismissed the bail plea of alleged arms dealer and businessman Sushen Mohan Gupta in connection with AgustaWestland money laundering case.Gupta had filed an application for a bail plea on April 6. A Delhi court Saturday dismissed the bail plea of Sushen Mohan Gupta, an alleged defence agent arrested in the Rs 3,600 crore VVIP chopper case. Special Judge Arvind Kumar refused to grant the relief to Gupta whose judicial custody expires on Saturday and an order is yet to be passed on it. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
