Woman alleges gangrape by four men in UP's Rampur, police denies charges

In a horrific incident, a woman was allegedly raped by four men in front of her husband here on June 11.The couple first did not approach the police. Later, when the miscreants posted video of the incident on social media, the victims rushed to the police and filed a complaint against the accused.According to the police, the couple claimed that they were stopped by some young men who harassed the woman. When the victims opposed, the miscreants thrashed the couple and tied the husband to a tree and gang-raped his wife in front of himHowever, contrary to the complaint, the police said that the woman was not gang-raped."On June 11, a couple was thrashed by four men. After probing the matter, it was found that the woman, who claimed to be raped by four men, was not gang-raped. However, the four accused have been arrested. It was found that the couple had themselves recorded incident and made the video viral," Sub-Inspector Brijesh Kumar told ANI.The matter is under investigation.

Locals create ruckus at Delhi Hospital over rape of 4-yr-old

A day after junior doctors in Kolkata called-off their strike over violence against doctors, locals created ruckus inside the premises of New Delhi's Maharishi Valmiki Hospital here.According to the police, the group of people lost their cool over rape of a 4-year-old girl.The minor was brought in the hospital for treatment after she was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old man in Bawana area earlier on Tuesday.Reportedly, certain medical tests were needed to be done. But the medical emergency services department gets closed after 4 PM. Owing to the unavailability of services the hospital referred the patient to a Dr BSA Hospital, which was 8-10 km far from the spot. 2,220 minors booked for driving vehicles in Hyderabad

In a special drive by the Hyderabad police, as many as 2,220 minors have been booked this year for driving vehicles."This year, so far 2,220 minors have been booked for driving vehicles and we have filed chargesheet in around 1,732 cases. The court has imposed a fine of Rs 16,1700 on these minors," Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of Traffic - Hyderabad City, told ANI.Kumar added that this year no one has been convicted but last year few minors were sent to the juvenile home."We are continuing the drive in the city and informing parents and children about the problems they would face in getting booked for violating the law. Agreement signed with UK govt over Dar's extradition: Pak official

A senior Pakistani official Tuesday claimed that the UK government has agreed to extradite former finance minister Ishaq Dar to Pakistan to face trial in a corruption case. Dar is accused of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income. A case against the former finance minister was filed by the National Accountability Bureau after the Supreme Court's July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case. Dar had been declared a proclaimed offender by the Supreme Court due to his continuous absence from the proceedings. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Accountability Shahzad Akbar told media in Islamabad that Dar would be brought back under a memorandum of understanding. "We reached at an agreement (with UK), and Dar will be brought back after ratification of the extradition documents by UK," he said. The body of a Kenyan national was found with a knife wound mark on her chest in Mehrauli police station area.Her body was found by Delhi Police on Monday."On June 17, a PCR call was received at around 8 pm, wherein it is mentioned that the sister of the caller has been killed. CBI FIR baseless, it has been filed to silence organisation: Lawyers Collective

Lawyers Collective Tuesday termed as baseless a CBI FIR against the NGO and its founder Anand Grover, claiming that it was filed to silence them as the organisation was pursuing sensitive cases. Lawyers Collective (LC) is run by Grover and his wife, lawyer Indira Jaising. In a statement Grover, Jaising and the LC said that the FIR is solely based on proceedings under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) in which orders for suspension and cancellation of LC's registration to receive foreign funding were passed by the Home Ministry in 2016. The order was challenged before the Bombay High Court and the matter was pending. There was no basis in the MHA's allegations of violation of the FCRA, it said. It said that there was no prohibition under the FCRA for Jaising to receive remuneration from LC for her work on women's rights. Waiter stabbed to death by co-worker in central Delhi

A waiter in his 20's was allegedly stabbed to death by a fellow worker after a fight between them over a petty issue in central Delhi's Pusa road, police said Tuesday. The waiter and the accused worked at a restaurant in Rajinder Nagar, they said. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday when the waiter, identified as Rahul, and the accused, Kamal, were walking home after work, police said. On the way, the two had a fight over a petty issue following which Kamal attacked Rahul with a knife, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said. Rahul was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, the officer said. A case of murder has been registered and the accused Kamal has been arrested, the officer added. Kamal was working as a helper at the restaurant, police said, adding further investigation is underway.

Actor arrested for not paying for jewellery bought on credit

Marathi TV actor Milind Dastane and his wife were arrested by Pune police Tuesday for allegedly cheating a jewellery firm of Rs 25 lakh. Dastane is currently playing a key role in the TV serial "Tujhyat Jeev Rangla". He and his wife Sayali allegedly purchased a diamond ring and gold and sliver ornaments worth Rs 25 lakh from P N Gadgil jewelery firm here last year on credit but failed to clear the dues. "They had promised the firm that they would pay the bill with interest once their property in Mumbai was sold," said an official attached to Chaturshringi police station. As they did not settle the bill for one year, the firm finally filed a complaint. "We registered a complaint against the couple under IPC sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust). Both were produced before a court which remanded them in police custody till June 21," the official added.

Man wanted for Rs 28 lakh loot in Ghaziabad held by UP STF

A man wanted for a Rs 28 lakh robbery in Ghaziabad's Sahibabad has been nabbed by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police, officials said Tuesday. The accused, Yogesh alias Raj, was nabbed by the Noida field unit of the STF from Shyam Park extension market, under Sahibabad Police Station area, on Monday, the officials said. "Yogesh and two others were involved in robbing people after promising them purchase of land in and around Ghaziabad at low rates," Deputy Superintendent of Police, STF, Raj Kumar Mishra said. "They would ask their target to come to some isolated spot on the pretext of land deal along with the money and then rob them off. A complaint was made against the gang in January this year at Sahibabad Police Station after which the probe was taken up," he said. Use of black money in polls comes under SIT scanner

Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) vice chairman Justice Arijit Pasayat Tuesday suggested appropriate amendments in existing tax laws to curb the use of money power to win elections. "It has come to the notice of the SIT that nearly Rs 3,800 crore was seized from across the country during the time of elections in April-May this year," he said. Justice Pasayat was briefing media after a meeting with officials from crime branch, vigilance, economic offence wing, Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Enforcement Directorate, CBI, SEBI, Income Tax and Central Economic Intelligence Bureau in the city. He said the agencies discussed various modalities to make the tax laws more effective. Discussions were held as to how seizures made during the time can be treated as 'predicate offences' so that the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax Department can bring the seized amounts under the tax net.
