Lenovo provides tech support to revive indigenous millets in Kerala

To revive indigenous varieties of millets in the country, technology company Lenovo has been providing digital and technical support at Kanthalloor in Kerala to grow six varieties of the cereal. Under its Work for Humankind Initiative, Lenovo set up a digital centre at the Institute of Human Resources Development (IHRD) College for Applied Sciences, Kanthalloor, to provide access to technology tools to revive six millet varieties in Kerala that will help ease millet production processes and create market linkages, Lenovo Foundation Head of Asia Pacific CSR and Philanthropy Pratima Harite told PTI. In the first year of the project, which began in October, 25 farmers took part in the initiative to cultivate six varieties of millets in 25 acres of land, Harite said. The six millet varieties are finger millet, barnyard millet, little millet, foxtail millet, proso millet, and kodo millet, some of which were still being grown for self consumption. Cooperating with authorities, promise all support: Lenovo on I-T searches

Chinese PC maker Lenovo on Thursday said it is cooperating with authorities and promised all support in the matter of searches carried out by Income Tax Department at its premises. The department conducted searches at Lenovo's Gurugram and Bengaluru premises on Wednesday as part of a tax evasion probe against the company and some of its affiliates. As responsible corporate citizens, we adhere strictly to all applicable laws, regulations, and reporting requirements in every jurisdiction in which we do business. We are cooperating with the authorities and will provide all possible support required," a Lenovo spokesperson said. The company clocked USD 1.9 billion revenue in India in 2022-23, with 17 per cent market share in the country. According to sources, the department suspected tax evasion and hence, launched the searches to gather evidence and corroborate actionable intelligence obtained by it in this regard.

40 firms commit to make IT hardware worth Rs 4.65 trn under PLI scheme

As many as 40 companies, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo, have applied for the IT hardware PLI scheme with a commitment to make personal computers, laptops, tablets, servers and other equipment worth Rs 4.65 lakh crore during the scheme period, an official statement said on Thursday. If all companies get selected under the scheme then the government will need to increase the incentive amount to Rs 22,890 crore against the budgetary allocation of Rs 17,000 crore, according to the note. "Total 40 applications have been submitted till the closure of the window on August 30. The scheme has been oversubscribed. Against The budgetary allocation of Rs 7,000 crore, applicants have projected PLI amount to the tune of 22,890 crore. Further, the production figure projected by these applicants is Rs 4.65 Lakh crore against the target of 3.35 lakh crore," the statement said. Foxconn, HP, Lenovo, 35 other firms apply for PLI IT hardware scheme

As many as 38 companies, including big names like Foxconn Group, HP, Dell and Lenovo, have applied for incentives under the mega Production Linked Incentive (PLI) IT hardware scheme for manufacturing laptops, PCs and servers. As of 10.30 PM on Wednesday, the number of applications had climbed to 38, from 32 applicants around 5.30 PM. The window for submission of applications for PLI IT hardware scheme closes at midnight. Earlier in the evening, Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw had said that Foxconn Group, HP, Dell and Lenovo are among companies which have applied. Others who have thrown their hat into the ring include Flextronics, Dixon, Acer, Thompson, VVDN, HP Enterprises and Asus, Vaishnaw said, terming the response from companies as "fabulous." Lenovo mulls scaling up local production, discussion on with govt on PLI

IT hardware maker Lenovo plans to strengthen local manufacturing and is in discussion with the government to seek clarity on the PLI scheme and recent import restrictions, a senior company official said on Tuesday. Lenovo India Commercial Business Executive Director Ajay Sehgal said that the company has been manufacturing in India for about the last two decades and now even exporting from India. "We need to understand more in detail about the new regulations. After understanding that part we will be able to comment better on how we can add more value in the manufacturing in India. Lenovo plans to hire 1,000 techies at shared support centre in Bengaluru

PC maker Lenovo plans to hire around 1,000 technical people at its first shared support centre opened in Bengaluru for global customers, a senior company official said on Wednesday. The centre will provide technical support to its customer across various verticals. "As we launched the Shared Support Center, we are about 100 people strong and as we grow, we will add to the 1,000 number," Managing Director of Lenovo India Shailendra Katyal told PTI. The company has not disclosed the investment amount. "This strategic infrastructure investment is poised to drive exponential growth, offering cutting-edge solutions and services while solidifying Lenovo's position in India as a prominent global tech hub.
